Switching subjects, according to nasa.gov the Spaceshuttle Discovery (OV-103) is scheduled to lift off tomorrow from Launch Complex 39B at 15:49 EDT on STS-121. Go Discovery!!!!

As of right now, according to nasa.gov, the countdown clock is at T-3 hours and holding. This is a scheduled hold for IMU (Interial Measurement Unit) calibration and alignment.

The countdown clock is now at T- 1:43 minutes and counting per nasa.gov

A funny thing happened on my way to my WITP turn...

My wife's video camera developed problems, and she decided she needed a cleaning casette for her camera. i wanted to get a camera magazine, so i volunteered to go along.

Four hours later, after going to the camera store, Sam's Wholesale Club, and Wal-Mart - we finally return...

Anyway - for a you US types - anyone know anything about "no contract" cell phones? The contract on my cell phone finally ran out, and i had hated my last cell phone (it never had any coverage it seemed, phone battery would go dead in about 2 hours).

My wife had done some reseach on this about 1 - 1.5 years ago, and decided that a TrackPhone was the best bet. When i tried to buy when, the clerk at Wal-Mart jumped all over me, trying to convince me to buy a T-mobile no-contract phone instead.

I use about 5 minutes of air time per month, and i am perfectly happy without it, but my wife is upset when she can't call me when she wants to...

So, anyone have any notions on this?

"Let's see, were those measurements in Newtons or foot-pounds..."

(someone at NASA forgot this when trying to land a rather expensive mission on Mars one time... scratch $287 million dollars or so...

An IMU is a navigation device. In addition to a star tracker and 3 GPS units, the orbiter will know where it is at all times. Shuttle was designed with English (non-metric units).

The countdown clock is at T-9 minutes and holding. It is a weather related hold.

By the way my town is overrun with space tourists.

This is better than Mindanao which is overrun with Japanese assault troops.

The launch is scrubbed due to weather.

My town is still overrun with space tourists.

Meanwhile. my wife is taking drastic measures to preserve our local tourist spot: the snake hole!

She had me buy 150' of hose at Sam's today so that she could run it out to the creek and put more water in so that the pools where the snakes (and other critters) hang out won't dry up!

It is 1 January. Supplies and fuel are moving to Sydney. The KB just clobbered the Boise and Houston. THe Houston will survive. The Boise is done for I think.

Well it has 99 systems damage with 86 floatation. It is in port but the KB is still lurking about.

And this is me we are talking about

Also the enemy just landed on the northern New Guinea coast. I have to do something about my search.

Per nasa.gov, the countdown clock is at T-4 hours 22 minutes and counting. This means the external tank is being filled with liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen. Launch is scheduled for 15:26 EDT.
