-IJNAF commanders received shocking news yesterday, as the Zuikaku air group was simply decimated by 43 of the new P-38´s. Fortunately, only one crew was lost. Survivors describe the plane as being too fast for the Zeroes and almost invulnerable to our 20mm guns. Siador was immediately evacuated, as these losses are considered unsustainable. It´s clear now that the empire is involved in a defensive war against an enemy whose power seem to grow each day, and which seem to have developed a perfect fighter. The IJNAF is putting all the hopes in the new J2M interceptor, who is scheduled to be combat ready by April. Again the Army was asked to send Tojos to defend Rabaul and the bases in New Guinea. It wasn´t a god day for the Empire, as raids on Mandalay destroyed more 7 fighters in the ground. Overall losses were 21 for Japan and 9 for the colonialists.

a good opening start for the new P-38. 9 Zeros confirmed destroyed in return for 1 P-38, badly shot up by a Zero during the sweep crashing just before reaching the Owen Stanley mountains. Regrettably the pilot did not survive.

Japanese fighters retreated from New Guinea until we learn more about the new enemy fighter. Intel estimates that the plane can fly at speeds above 630km/h, 90km/h faster than the A6M3. This info must be confirmed. Mandalay still being bombed back to stone age..

SouthWest Pacific Command today announced the capture of Buna in Northern New Guneau.

"Remenants of the South Seas Detachment, ragged and battered from a 2 month air bombardment capaign which included heavy bomber strikes, were easily ejected from their fortifications by troops of the U.S. 32nd Infantry division. Casaulties were extremely light and the surviving Japanese troops were driven back into the deep jungle." General Douglas MacArthur announced at the steps to his HQ back in Australia.

"I am pleased to announce that with the completion of Phase I , Phase II can now begin"

The only sour note in this otherwise rosy picture were some signs of discontent from Australian troops, whose role in the offensive was strictly defensive.

"Bloody Yanks..." commented one Corp commander on conditon of anonomity; "They want to hog all the glory while we're stuck garrisoning a bunch of aircrew tents and sitting our collective arses."

Rabaul continues to remain ominously quiet. The only air activity detected having been from a newly established airbase at Sadair, NG....which was promptly shut down by 5th Airforce bombers and fighters.

-Agressive decisions by both commanders at the same time resulted in the bloodiest air combats seen since the second battle of Coral Sea. Allied forces lost 73 planes in A2A combat against 44 Japanese. Overall losses were 85 for allies and 72 for Japan. In Mandalay, an attempt to defend Mandalay with 2 Sentais, including the feared 29th Sentai (Tojo veterans) and one Navy Datai (A6M3´s) ended in disaster, as the fighters claimed more than 60 aircraft shot down and had about the same number destroyed in the ground or shot down by enemy fighters. The ressurected 51st FG (P-40´s) had a very impressive performance bouncing the Japanese as they were dispatching the poor Hurricanes. This time crew losses were heavy, even for the 29th Sentai. Meanwhile the P-38´s suffered a serious setback against Rabaul CAP, as Japan used some Ki-45´s as baits for P-38´s, allowing the Zeroes to shot down 11 of these wonderful machines. However, the raid on Rabaul had a heavy cost for both sides, as Japan lost 5 Zeroes and 5-Ki-45 to the enemies, plus 7 G3M destroyed in the ground, while the enemy lost another 5 B-17. In the sea, an allied sub ambushed a Japanese ML entering Rangoon harbour. The ship sank in 15 minutes.

Goes to show what an experienced outfit with a powerfully armed fighter can do (The 51st was a veteran outfit). Makes me feel guilty for continually sending in those green Huri pilots against the veteran Japanese defenders. A costly but acceptible battle. Still......Mandalay is a bit of a sinkhole. I can keep Bombur from investing it but at the same time i can't shut it down completely.

If the emperor is censoring the combat reports, could things be going downhill?

Well the land campaigns and land based air campaigns are going well or at least acceptibly well. (Burma airwar is a struggle) Naval is another story thx to a 4:1 exchange in CV's. Not as big a problem for me as maybe for some others though as i tend to play conservatively anyway. Advancing under land based aircover is the best, safeest course of action.

-A Big enemy fleet has landed at least one division in Guadalcanal and smaller units in Tulagi. Both bases have been largely undeveloped , but were heavily mined. A few transports and DD´s hit our minefields but we weren´t able to mount an effective counterattack in the last turn. Fortunately, the enemy disembark was also followed by a massive raid of B-17´s against Rabaul, probably an attempt to knock out our Betties in the ground. Flying unescorted, the enemy planes were easily driven back by our fighters. Seven B-17´s were lost. Yamamoto seems to be strangely optimistic about the outcome of the enemy offensive (??????)

-Lunga fell, but the Guadalcanal campaign is just starting. The first line of defense, the mines, worked pretty well. Intel confirmed the lost of one DD and many other ships are heavily damaged. The second defense line was put to work with remarkable success, as Japanese land based Nells and Betties attacked the enemy ships at Guadalcanal. To the surprise of Japanese aviators, the enemy relied on some slow light carriers (the so called "CVE´s) to provide air support to the beachead. While the F4F´s did well against our Zeroes, they were unable to stop the bombers. Two waves of Nells/Betties damaged three CVE´s. Two of them suffered from massive fuel explosions and are unlikely to survive. Meanwhile, the enemy still raided Rabaul for two days in a row, losing 25 of their new P-38´s, but destroying 9 planes in the ground plus a number of Zeroes and LOTS of Ki-45´s (a plane who seems to be uselees to any other task then target for P-38´s)

-The third defense line arrived at the theater too late. This time, Nik retreated at full speed and saved his carriers (or maybe saved MY carriers), but his transports weren´t too lucky. Meanwhile Shortland was choosen by the B-24´s as the main target. Unfortunately, the base was being defended by several Tojos and B-24´s aren´t invulnerable as the B-17´s. Nine B-24´s were lost over Shortlands. In more news, radio intercepts confirmed the lost of CVE Sangamon. We expect another CVE sinking confirmation for the next ours.
-In the Burma front, thing aren´t going well, as an attempt to expel enemy troops from Mandalay ended in disaster.

-Two Japanese TF´s bombarded Lunga inflicting heavy losses to local forces, but unable to disrupt airfield building (now level 1). To make things worse one destroyer hit one of our own mines and will probably be lost. On the bright side, one of the Dutch subs harassing our sea lanes near Rangoon was heavily hit. The attempt to relieve the siege of Mandalay ended in failure as the Imperial Guards were forced back to Rangoon. More two enemy AP´s lost to damage inflicted by KB. The enemy lost at least 13 ships in the Guadalcanal campaign, however, among warships, only a CVE and 3 DD´s.

Hmmm....I don´t think the USN will abandon the troops at Guadalcanal. Nik will likely involve his main fleet and risk lots of losses in order to keep Guadalcanal. Japanese reinforcements are on the way....

-Enemy air activity was detected over Guadalcanal. In two days, Zeroes from KB shot down 9 F4F´s withouth losses. Over Burma, a group of Beauforts had the idea of attacking the IGD near Rangoon, withouth escorts, none of them survived to tell what happened.

Maybe it was the fact they were outnumbered 8:1 and KB pilots had exp levels close to 80??? Well, it won´t take too much time until you have Corsairs, and then....My only hope is that the severe pizza shortage will cripple your morale, while Japanese pilots have lots of sushi and sache
