I've noticed that the Soviets can make up the difference in numbers of units if they hide most of their front line behind rivers that have only a few fording points.  That way they have to defend only a few places and not along the entire front line.  Also the active defense seems to work wonders.  Active defense being having a few 2nd string units on the actual front line and some of the bigger units in tactical reserve just behind the front line units so that if the actual front line units get attacked the bigger units move in to help out.  Most of the German attacks have gotten whacked unless they attempt their attacks with overwhelming force.  Attacks with results 2% Soviet loss and 15% Axis loss isn't uncommon for this reason.

The Axis has forced their way across the Dnepr River in a front at least 30 kilometers wide.  The Soviets are scrambling for more units to hold back the wave of enemy troops:

I'm enjoying your aar Larry and the animated GIFs are excellent.

May I ask you a question? I've just bought the game and may look at writing my own aar but..how do you take a screen shot. I tried PrtScr but it didn't do anything and there's no mention in the hotkey section of the pdf manual.

Thanks in advance.

It didn't do any visible or notice-able thing but what it did was post a screenshot on your "clipboard". I use MS paint to get the image off the clipboard by using the "paste" command. Once you have it visible in MS paint you can crop it, save it, modify it, etc.

Here's the moves for turns 15 thru 19:

Note the capture of Smolensk, Kiev, and Odessa. Most of the progress was in the South end of the front lines just to the east of Odessa.

The Soviets were able to plug the holes in the front lines everywhere except in the Kherson area.  Stakva thinks it might be best to do a fighting withdrawl to a new front line further to the east and south:

The Axis spent some time attempting to fly the airborne Brandenbergers from one end of the map to the other and the Soviets attempted to shoot them down.  This is the result of the furballs that occured:

The Axis has the MP units busy converting enemy hexes to friendly ones and quite by accident an MP unit stumbled upon a partisan unit that appeared, appearently out of thin air.  The Axis needs to scan the map more carefully before moving anything each turn to catch these partisans before they can damage railroads, etc:

Now that the front lines have stabilized for quite some time the Axis railroad guys have caught up repairing the rails almost to the front lines all along the front:

The Axis high command decided to drop the FJ division behind enemy lines to help bottle up and trap some Soviet divisions:

what do the tank losses for the allies and axis look like? The Soviets seem to be more than holding their own in the infantry exchanges -- losses of c. 33% vs 50% for the Axis, plus plenty of replacements for the Russians and very little for the Axis.

NOTE:  due to a short circut between the ears I somehow skipped turn 21 for both the Axis and the Soviets.

I had to go through the entire inventory of Brandenburgers but I finally got at least one to a point where he could help surround some Soviet divisions, although I'm not complaining much because of all the Soviet planes I shot down in the attempts:

With some more air drops of the FJ division the Soviet front is pretty much wrapped up to the East of Odessa:
