I was wondering how combat will be handled in this game. As far as, will it be similar to GGWAR? Or is it based on completely different algorithims? Is Frank the creator of the battle mechanics as well? Has he mentioned what system he is using? Has anyone even commented on this yet? Also, how will supply be handled? Will is be different/same as above?

Just wondering, after looking at some screen shots, it looks pretty good, hopefully it will hold up. I'm wondering how much QA testing is left..

This is one of those titles where folks don't respond to 99.9% of questions made.

Has soured me on what I once thought was a "sure buy."

Get real - no-one is going to comment on specifics like that 'cos of NDA's.

And I dont' even know what GGWAR is and I haven't got any of Franks otehr titles either.

GGWAR is Gary Grigsby's World at War. You can get Hunter Campaigns pn the Danube from Matrix and a Google on "American Civil War Frank Hunter" should lead you to that game. Not much work. It took me five seconds to find this link:

Hey everyone, don't get discouraged. Frank has been working hard to get this ready and I do expect to see it before the end of the year, but he's not naturally chatty. I'll ask him to swing by and catch up on some of the questions that have been posted since the screenshots were put up here.

Regards,

- Erik

I assure you all I do post a lot of comments in the beta test thread.

Anyhoo, supply is traced from your major cities. Just your basic, you're in supply or you're isolated kind of thing. Sea supply is traced by placing transports in sea zones and then through ports.

As for combat, well, in a nutshell, you take the strength of each attacking unit and modify it by its "readiness" and "quality". The result fires that many times against a "To Hit" number which produces hits on the target(s). The To Hit number is based on terrain and entrenchments.

Defender fires first, surviving attackers fire next. Hits can cause actual losses and/or readiness losses. If readiness hits 0 the unit retreats, if strength hits 0 the unit is eliminated.

Based on the casualty comparison and what actual forces survive the attackers will either take the hex or be repulsed. Things like Assault troops, poison gas and tanks modify all of this at various stages.

Artillery fires before the movement phase and its pretty important to cause as many casualties as you can with artillery before you attack the hex. Artillery fires at every unit in a hex separately so the more units defending the higher the casualties. The only defence against artillery is trenches. The best defence against infantry attack is unit quality.

I know what his titles are - I have chosen to not purchase them. World at War I have played with a friend who has it - and thus saved many $$ by not purchasing something I found a poor game.

I was commenting on the previous posters' comments about there being no responses, and seeming to imply that everyone must have those games - positions which I consider completely unreasonable.

I certainly hope BOA released this year so I can make fun of pasternaski. I also desperately want to play a Strategic level WWI game.

The clock is tickin', partner. I hope you get your chance, because I really want to see a good game on this subject, too.

Besides, it would be great to have somebody actually poke fun at me once, instead of "what an @$$hole," "you are really stupid," "I sense hostility against you in these forums, and it's your own d@mned fault," "nobody asked you to talk, so shut up and listen, because you are being told" and so on and so on.

Things sound good, and I am looking forward to its release. Christmas would be good for me, but I would buy it sooner.

I'm usually confused, but I thought BOA = Birth of America.

Me, too, but I think he meant GoA. It's easy to hit the B instead of the G if you're trying to go fast on the lrunpstf.

This seems like an answer to me, I don't know, you may see it differently.

"And I dont' even know what GGWAR is and I haven't got any of Franks otehr titles either. "

"I know what his titles are - I have chosen to not purchase them. World at War I have played with a friend who has it - and thus saved many $$ by not purchasing something I found a poor game. "

I am a bit confused, are these contradictory, or am I missing something?

Seems reasonable to me.  I believe he didn't know what the acronym stood for.

You are missing something - I know what his other titles are, I just don't have them.

I think he was referring to you not knowing what GGWAW is but then stating that you've played it.  Note that it's WAW not WAR.
