Watch out for those islands btw. Carriers don't like to sail through theses at all and try to go around. It cost me quite a few turns when fighting Andy around Timor and let quite a few of his battleships get away.

Noemfoor has been out of supplies for 3 weeks, but the individual combat units have reserves.
With his current forces it will take months for Andy to get nowhere

I know String, tried to send fleet to Naga and it wanted to go around - so diverted to Roxas first.
We have to use this maze to our advantage me thinks.

No enemy AC over Zamboanga today - not even transports. We continue to reduce
the place while the fleet gets into position for a counterstrike.

It is risky - way too close to THE enemy fleet just 1-2 days away.
The KB sorties in 4 TFs:

1. The Fast Striking Force made up by 3 new Katsuragi class cvs.
2. The Main Striking Force made up by the Taiho, Akagi, Junyo and 3 cvls.
3. The Escort Carrier Fleet made up by 5 cve's - currently split into several TFs.

In all some 600 ac will linger north of Zamboanga protected by most of the Imperial AF.

The Nihon Kaigun also sorties in strength: 4 Battleship TFs, a Cruiser group and an
Destroyer division will close within bombardment range of Zamboanga covering the invasion
TFs.

The invasion fleet is made up from 3 TFs carrying 2 full Bdes and half of the 109th Div.
The last half of the 109th goes into reserve in Manila. Currently loaded in 4500 size APs.
Need a reload.

An engineer regiment has been loaded at Manila and will also be available.

I'm uncertain whether Andy will sortie his fleet for Zamboanga. If he only sorties parts
of it, we may be able to outnumber him. If not, a hasty retreat within the air unmbrella in the PI
will be the wises action. If we can't defeat him, we may at least delay him. A full fleet sortie
will burn 100k fuel.

What do the Intel Committee advice?

Andy piced Davao as his target - again! This time the B29s were escorted
not only by a large number of Lighthnings, but also Hellcats from approaching carrier TFs!
Bloodbath indeed...The Franks performed on a 1-1 basis vs the P38s. Well, at least we're wearing
out Andy's long range escorts. That could come in handy...

Andy's cv's closest to Zamboanga including CV Hornet and Formidable didn't conduct any strikes today.
Not sure he spotted my carriers, he got all his fighters on 90% CAP and few bombers on search missions.

In addition a large enemy fleet is sailing NE towards Zamboanga and should arrive shortly. These TFs may
include troops and supplies. I will add another post with screenies and comments soon.

Well, Andy is psychic...no doubt about it.
Not much other to add. The KB is gone - again

Andy moved the bulk of his carriers to a perfect intercept position
West of Zoambanga - evading all our surface combat intercept attempts.

300 Zekes didn't stand a chance to stop the massed air attacks that hit 2 out or 3
carrier TFs and sank all cv's. Not sure how Andy could have found out, sigint is the
only explanation, but even from siging he couldn't possible have guessed that I would
leave the KB in exactly the same position as yesterday.

Well, can't fight divine insight, so I guess we'll just carry on until the end.
Surface Fleet and remaining carriers retreating to Manila. Invasion continues under a
heavy CAP umbrella. Kamikaze units put on high alert. The enemy has lost a lot of fighters
and will be hard pressed to protect their own carriers and intercept our invasion.

Seems like more enemy ships are streaming north from Sulawesi. We hit 2 battleships today
with 250kg bombs...and a destroyer was torpedoed.

Todays air losses

The worst loss is all the Zeke Daitais that won't be back for..a year?
Jap carriers truly doesn't have a role to play in WitP in 1944, that's for sure.

Damn! Just keep trying to drain his fighters and then hit him with Kamis. You've got to try and salvage something from this and a fighter drain + kami tactic seems the best bet right now.

I wouldn't fret too much over loss of the carriers. A bummer for sure, but if they kept all those allied planes from hitting your transports during the first unloading phase, they may have served about as useful a role as they possibly can in the late war, especially if you are able to retake Zamby.

Also, you did take out quite a few of his fighters, which is a rare thing no matter what in 44.

Yes, the fighter-fighter loss ratio for the day was only 2.5:1 in favor of the allies and considering that his carrier pilots are probably very highly trained, you did well.

Yes, bummer about the carriers but they did their job and protected the transports. Andy must surely have to withdraw his carriers to replenish his losses.

Andy is a wiley opponent and he can be counted on to do what you least expect!

Yes youve hurt him quite a bit as well, with his Fighter losses, that will set him back a bit.

Forget your Carriers, as your Kamikazes proved earlier in the week, every base you own is now a unsinkable Carrier, from which the Divine Wind can strike ;)

I think cv groups wont return (except for US - they respawn with carriers in 55O days).

I am glad to see that loss of carriers isnt major blow for the morale of the Empire!

Thx for the support guys!
I can survive without the carriers, but a bit annoying that they die so easily.
300 Zekes on CAP were just wiped out in ONE attack. This game will indeed be more playable during
the latest years with Nicks mod!

I had no reason to believe that Andy would send SO MANY carriers WEST of Zamboanga.
Going to do the next turn and see what happens. Will not strike for the carriers, a lot of unprotected TFs further
south. These are the main objective for 7 Kami groups. Also sent several surface combat groups to Zamboanga,
nothing bigger than ca's though. Battleships are flanking back to Manila. Let's hope Zamboanga can be recaptured.
If not we will tie Andy's forces to the area for quite some time to come and harass him daily.

The Yamato/Musashi Battlegroup was actually in the hex NEXT TO Andy's mega carrier group
They didn't even see them - told this to Andy

Big News! The Divine Wind hit the enemys supply train and rear vanguard heavily today
Also shot down large numbers of enemy carrier ac - Andy's plan for future invasions in jeopardy
and Zamboanga as good as recaptured

More to come...hopefully this taster will cheer up all fanboys out there!

Khorne will be pleased .

Nice kami attacks there. 2-4 CVE .. has to be a good exchange in 44. the days of the imperial japanese carrier arm is long over RIP. although the loss of so many allied a/c is very good news for your LBA later on. and as you say NIKMOD might be very important late war for japan. I think we all tend to forget just how long ago this all started and most new games with various mods/patches will be rather differant in the latter years.

Hats off to you though vs early stock F4U's ! .. and the F6F's got a real battering too.

Great job, PzB. I think the first CVE you hit, Natoma Bay, is one of the escort carriers that furnishes replacement aircraft to his battle carriers. I could be wrong though. If you so, you have dealt a good blow because it will reduce his ability to keep his air groups on his carriers at full strength.

His fighter strength must be weakened on his fleet carriers and now they won't have as many aircraft available to replace losses.

BANZAI!!!

Chez

"Carriers, Japan don't need no stinkin' carriers!"

EDIT: I just looked at the Allied OOB. Natoma Bay is a standard CVE and not a replenishment carrier, DARN!

Funny that your kamikazes damaged many of the intercepting fighters. I dont think that IRL there were any crew members present on kami bombers except kami pilot

That was just a taster Rob

Here is a list of all the enemy CVE's that were hit today:

CVE Liscome Bay, Kamikaze hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
CVE Ommaney Bay, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
CVE Manila Bay, Kamikaze hits 1, on fire
CVE Petrof Bay, Kamikaze hits 1, on fire
CVE Prince William, Kamikaze hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
CVE Natoma Bay, Kamikaze hits 7, on fire, heavy damage

We hit them all the way down to Noemfoor and at Sulawesi!
Ammo and fuel storage explosions everywhere! Even though only the Natoma Bay
sank, the Liscome Bay and Prince William will soon follow suit.

Somehow our own escort carrier TF decided to move closer to Zamboanga!?
Did the Commander devise this scheme by himself?

CVE Chuyo, Bomb hits 19, on fire, heavy damage *sinks*
CVE Shinyo, Bomb hits 11, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage *snks*

This question will remain un-answered...but his sacrifice caused heavy enemy air losses.
Damage to the enemy's supply train and carrier fighter is very heavy. Andy said he did
not expect to meet a refurbished KB and had hoped to hit our surface combat units.

It is possible that our -costly- Zamboanga offensive actually pre-emptied the enemies plans
and cast them awry!

Despair one day and jubilation the next! This battle is ferocious - not sure I can take much
more of it I continue to mass air units over and around Zamboanga. More Kami units have been
dispatched, but the enemy must surely be alerted by now.

Enemy troop transports are moving towards Zamboanga, but tomorrow they will have to turn around,
cause we got 31k crack troops in place with 530 assault points.

Will the sacrifice of the KB be worth the re-capture of Zamboanga and disruption of the enemys plans?
The KB will once more - the last time - go back to port and repair battle damage.

Only the Taiho and 2 light carriers survived the battle and will join the Katsuragi, Shokaku and Zuikaku
when they finish their repairs. The CVL Ibuki today left Tokyo Harbour on a top secret mission armed with
27 of the new 'Grace' TBDs aboard.

Think it was the Bushido spirit of the Kamis that drove of the enemy fighters Kkoovoo!
Now you can check the rest of the CVEs that were hit Chez, should be a replacement cve among them1?
There were absolutely NO CAP fighters above them.

This game will indeed be more playable during the latest years with Nicks mod!

It will be very tough for Allies with Niks Mod.

You suffered so many terryfying defeats in the air but the backbone of your air force is not broken (do you have any backbone? )

I dont think anyone is too far in Niks mod. But when I imagine all your massive strikes, which were wiped out by UberCap - a lot of Andys ships would lie on the bottom of the ocean.

Yes, the CAP is too good in the game, but it is also to easy for Japan to outproduce Allied in ACs and to train green pilots to average level (60 - 1 month), so they are as good as Allied trained replacement.
