Ravinhood,

There will be A LOT about this game that is new to the wargame department. I'm not sure that everyopne will like that, but I certainly hope so.

Best,

Mark

Well, I need to resolve the AVI issue. Right now the 30 second AVIs that I'm capturing are about 225MB. Quite the download... too bad, because it shows a T-34 waxing a mortar team, and then a Soviet squad shaking the Germans advancing on the T-34 while their comrades advance on the skahen mortar team and eliminate it.

That is a huge file! Anyway you could make that available for down loading if you can't shrink the AVI file down?

Thanks,
Gary

I certainly hope so cause I'm gonna get out all my Squad Leader Boards and scenario cards and do that right off the bat if it's possible; after playing a scenario or two.

And Mark I like the idea of the little girl and the teddybear thing. It's gives a different perspective to just a wargame. It brings some elements I haven't seen before, but, even if hypothetical it adds a new atmosphere to the scenario. Sort of an RPGlike wargame at the same time.

Agreed.

Already, in the boardgame, with strong accent put on SMC (heroes, leaders, medics, chaplains, etc), small actions and events, there is a bit of RPG. I'm glad to see it developped further in the PC game. This is refreshing. LnL is a different beast than a pure cold hearted board simulation.

Hi Guys,

Matrix is helping with the AVI size. David has a way to compress it. Now the onus is on me to provide him with a very cool raw file.

Yes, HoS strongly emphasizes the RPG aspects. There is, in fact, a bit of a love story in the Soviet campaign. Both German and Soviet campaigns are more than a string of scenarios. Both tell a story, both have main characters, and both have some branching missions (and the Soviets even have a sexy heroine), that players may--or may not-- see, depending on their choices. All this in a tactical game that is accessible, realistic, and fun.

Of course the campaign isn't all that is radically new about this game. There is also stuff that I would risk saying that no one has ever thought of putting in a turn-based game. At least no one outside of SquareSoft.

Best,

Mark

Thank you Mark and Matrix for setting up the AVI file ! This will be like watching a 30 second mini-demo of the game in action!

Cheers!

Hey Mark?! Can I have that $10 discount you offered me for the boardgame LnL instead for this game when it's released? ;)

When the Germans assault Kalach to capture the bridge crossing, they come across a refugee hiding in one of the houses. The girl is frightened and runs randomely from Germans and Soviets alike. If fire passes **through** her hex she must take a MC, just like any other unit. If she fails it, she dies. The Germans try to keep her alive, the Soviets don't care either way (in reality neither side would give a damn, but this scenario is part of the German campaign, so they are wearing the white hats). If the German leader enters her hex, she'll stay with him. I'll have an AVI loaded later that will show all this stuff.

Best,

Mark

WTF

I don't mind saying, how is this event at all entertaining.

I just think of it as a moving objective hex Sarge. Something we haven't seen before. It's a great idea.

Not sure myself about this. If the game also has a the gritty atmosphere of combat the I will be happy. IF it starts to play out more like a comic strip then I hope the game has a modding feature so we get some hardcore combat going.

Well if ,

Playing out a scenario were there is a possibility of a little girl getting cut down if one of her random moves happen to cross into the fire lane.

No , I don’t find that entertaining at all, there is a reason war games rarely if ever include civilians.

But as in the past your reply is by no means shocking, any level of critiquing is shut down with a reply, I AM THE DEVELOPER NOT YOU” mentality .

PS: The teddy bear in the crying girls arms is a nice touch.

Hey Mark,

Congratulations on your new store front open for business. All your games look fantastic! I would love to see Lock ‘n Load: A Day of Heroes converted to PC. The counters and board look awesome! Also glad to hear you will still be working with David Heath at Matrix to keep the PC games rolling out. Looks like you have had allot on your plate recently, hopefully this will free up some of your time to finish off LnL Heroes Of Stalingrad?

Thanks!

Actually, I am also not too thrilled about the liitle girl part of the story. And even if you want to give the Germans the white hats in their campaign, i don't know why the Russians would not care more for that little Russian girl than those friggin nazis?... not counting on the fact that they would actually be able to communicate with her.

Its just flat out wrong, no matter how you try to spin it.

Calling this scenario a tactical simulation using the implied event of children get mowed down is total BS!

I really am shocked this kind of garbage is here at Matrix.

So modeling civilians means that it's not a simulation?

Its simple, drop the little girl image, and put in a adult civilian graphic if you must ,but don’t use children .
I am sorry if I come across strong at times, but why use something so distasteful. It just makes no sense at all. I can care less who is wearing the white hat in the scenario.

Ravinhood,
I have seen something like this before, that’s why I fell so strong about civilians not being in the game. It took years of VA support groups to get such visions out of my head.

Again, I am sorry for trashing this thread, but this scenario has brought some old skeletons to the surface , I can’t swallow this kind of reality inserted into a game.
Your board game was top notch, and I am sure the PC version will only follow suit and was a must buy for me till this thread.

Sorry

What kind of response is that? It's amazing to me that folks still post junk like this when a forum allows them some "distance" from the targeted individual.

I happen to agree with a lot of Sarge's points.

I prefer a straight up simulation, and LNL is a great game for that. Adding a few roleplaying or story elements was a nice touch to the boardgame, but I think this is over the top. Just like those blasted halos around the hexes, this much "chrome" (if you can even refer to this as chrome, since chrome denotes something extra that has added value) detracts from what is otherwise a solid game system.
