Very interesting numbers for air losses. Congrats on destroying over 400 Fortresses and 800+ Lightnings.

Nemo - in this game such big strikes are rather teoretically possible  and they only happen against land targets - i have never seen anything like that against ships
PZB tried to do sth like that and he failed too with big strike
you will have 200 - 300 as biggest and such will be eaten by cap

Sneer,

Difficult but not impossible... I have found that just waiting patiently until the enemy is within range of up to 3 airbases ( 1 airbase for every 300 planes required)... When I got the Allies close to 3 airbases I put about 400 planes on each, generated a 900 plane strike and managed to swat ( over the course of 3 days) 2 Allied CVs, 3 CVEs and 2 BBs. This is in 1944.

It is DAMNED difficult to do and it can occur only when very specific criteria are met ( Allies operate beyond easy LBA range, Japanese have a large number of mutually supporting bases within a few hexes of eachother etc) but it is possible and you'd only need to achieve it once to force the Allied player to slow his offensives significantly for the rest of the war.

I do take your point though that it is likely that you may just get several 300 plane raids and lose them all but since that's the best you can manage with conventional attacks anyway why not try something different which, if it fails, does no worse than your current methods but if it succeeds does markedly better?

Anyways, back to the game ;). Sorry for hijacking the thread I've just been doing a lot of kami testing. Only about 1/3rd of the time does this work but when it does entire Allied TFs are just shattered so I thought I'd say it.

BTW, yeah the Lightning numers are very interesting. What would you put these high Lightning losses down to?

lightings ....
p38g were used often - basicly allied air workhorse
tony/tojo with good pilots managed to get 1:1
p38j is diffrent story 1:2 is usual against them

as to big LBA attacks
airfields in pbems that are able to launch such attacks are often  within range of enemy 4e bombers what complicate it more than seriously
before frances and peggys you have only 400 bettys/nells
my probability for launching so big strike is estimated as below10-15% against experianced human opponent
so lots of luck is needed

Sneer, Yes I had my "box trap" set when the Allies went for Tinian. I had Saipan and Guam and Iwo Jima for the long-range kamis. Also had a few bases holding the south edge of the box clear to Saipan.

slow pace so opportunity to deliver more data
sub war is most absorbing just after air raids
Raverdave lost 71 subs to date
japan lost 29 to date
about 30 allied subs were sunk in port / manila and soerabaja/
out of 40 subs sunk in open waters less than 20 were sunk by DC from hunter-killer groups
and rest by bombs - with 5-6 killed by patrols from KB Helens scored over 15

Shock Attack doesn't look like the best option against those odds

But congrats on getting a torp into the Royal Sovereign!

Why is it that when ever a non-MSW type ship is included in a MSW task force(IJN or Allied), it eats a mine or two. Same thing has happened to me in the past. In this case the Warrego was there to provide gunfire support and would be trailing the msw's and not leading them!

My own theory is that when the last mine of a minefield is swept, it the sweeping TF had something else than MSW, then its flagship will hit a mine.
So when you have a lot of small minefields, and one of your tranport TF has MSW included, the flagship of this TF is probably doomed... you will see it hitting one mine for each swept minefield (my record was 6 mines for a DD once, before I built the present theory).
With MSW only there is no problems... but you can't sweep hexs defended by CD guns...

Hi boys and girls. My first post here. Since I started my pbem v. Raver this AAR has suddenly become of some intrest on my behalf. I myself being short on time to read the whole story from page 1 feel inclined to come here asking both of you for short recapitulation of events unfolded thus far. In plain english, any chance of a summary of the war so far from both pionts of view when you came around with some spare time to do it?

Sneer vs Raverdave - summery and calendarium
main concept
grab PI and Malaya ASAP and move to east india to secure burma area from usual 43 allied counterattack
secondary objective on continent - knock china out of war
in the pacific - secure more or less historical perimeter line early , stop and dig in - concentrate on force preserving and

trying to defeat allied navy during counterattack in late 42/ all russia talking on forum was purely disinformation as east

india was target.

december 41
main thrust was in dei i resigned from PH attack and decided to concentrate in dei
4 Cv were used on singapore and 2 on manila / lba divided by 2 areas , cvl force hunted merchant fleet at PI /1 time zone

rule used/
POW,Repulse 20+ subs and many more smaller vessels as well as few light cruisers are sunk in early days - KB made sweep

through java sea - lots of ships in soerabaja hit and sunk /allied loose over 1000points in ships in 4 days/
malaya - main landing site at mersing secondary at khota baru , PI main at lingayen and secondary at lagespi ,
on pacific wake/ guam rabaul at first
mid dec 41 gili gili north guinea and salomons underway by snlf units as well as gilberts

clark field taken on 23rd after heavy fights as well as whole mindanao , rangoon force cut off base and rangoon taken by para

- cutting off troops was mistake - i was unaware game mechanism and lost up to 3 weeks here
singapore taken on 26th DEC - part of units designed for java and rest clear malayas , battle for changsha starts
30th dec australin cruiser force destroyed in 1st real surface battle and finished by carriers
Hong Kong , bataan and Port Moresby taken on 31th dec

january 42
RN counterattacks at rangoon - planes rebased to moulmain and Revenge and ceres sunk on next day
5th jan - batavia taken by troops from singapore - malaya almost cleared
11th yenan+ changsha taken and offensive in china takes momemntun
15th jan manila taken and luzon finished / troops resting and moving to east India as well as troops from malayas
enemy surrounded in burma as paras take both lashio and Mytikina - burma roadd closed , mandalay taken without fight after

flanking move
23th carrier raid against allied convoys in pacific , baker isl taken later raid against nomuea ,

Feb 42
again KB raids fat allied supply convoy at suva area very deep into enemy teritory / intel info
air campaign against chinase resources
7th FEB soerabaja taken
13th feb malaya cleared troops free to use

Very nice. I didn't realize the extent of punishment Raver got in this one. That won't favor me very much, he's likely to be out for blood now

Oh he's thirsty all right. I didn't even give orders to go to war he was steaming with an invasion fleet for Wake ven went for Marcus. I'm still crying over the 8000 supply lost there...I mean, I did retake it, 5000 prisoners and all, but 8000 supply! Bah, enough of that, this is your AAR, wouldn't want to impose
Good hunting to both of you

I've seen this enough to start wondering myself. Something else for the patch gawds perhaps.
