I'm playing as Germany in the full campaign, using the scenario that's tweaked for Allied AI play. It ran smoothly until the Summer of '41, when Germany invaded Russia. On the Russian turn immediately after the invasion the AI seems to get hung up pondering its move. It continually shuffles its units around, then taking back the move and trying something else. This went on for a good 20 minutes, after which the program crashed.

I'm happy to send a save file if you let me know where to send it.
Thanks

Please sent it to me at janbs@stofanet.dk

I will look into the issue as well as forward it to the other coders and Joel.

Have also noticed the Russians moving excessively for an extended period of time. Have not experienced a CTD though.

If you have the save, you might try letting the AI make another go of it despite the crash. In my game as Germans I had two turns - the 2nd and 3rd turn after invasion - that took an especially long time (although no crash for me). One took almost 5 minutes and the other 5-10 as the AI tried just about every way to position its troops. I was starting to get worried but it eventually decided what to do. If it didn't take so long, I would have found it kind of amusing as I can be a bit indecisive as well.

If you turn off the showing of AI moves it tends to speed things up considerably. Ofcourse then you dont get to see what the AI is considering.

I will be looking into the save you mailed me asap.

I noticed this to a lesser degree playing WA and watching the Axis AI moves, sometimes moving the same units half a dozen times. It would be preferable if the AI did all these "potential" moves behind the scenes, if it must, and only displays final moves. It is interesting in one respect in that players can see what may possibly be at risk, but overall I find the feature distracting. And if it's causing a CTD for Russia, then it's more than distracting.

I seems like I'm witnessing a Feynman sum over histories, if you understand the quantum physics analogy.

Hello Tim (tica),

Thank you for mailing me the save game in question.

I just played through the AI turn and it does indeed take a very long time for the AI to move when you have the option "Show Move Animations" turned on as the AI tries out alot of possible moves - but it did not crash for me. Does it crash for you everytime if you reload and repeat the turn?

Regardless of the crashing I might suggest that you try turning "Show Move Animations" off. Personally I vastly prefer not to wait for 10+ mins for a
turn that takes less than 1 min without the animations.

Please let me know if the crash is consistent for you if you reload the same save game. If so - please take a screen shot of the options in game as well as make a dxdiag file so we might try to track down the reason for the crash.

An alternative to turning them off completely is to simply reduce the delay drastically in the options. It is defaulted to .5 seconds or so. Try going to .2. Thats the setting I've used and you can still see the AI's movement trends, but the turns aren't terribly long.
