2 air combat TF - each with ap 200 planes
action against cruiser force at aru isl
i moved 5 or 6 hexes < with refuel off> what is below my max range - to save ops for next day combat
weather doesn't prevent strikes in both air phases
cap50% rest on escort
enemy cap 30 planes / p38j and corsair / low enough to trigger lba attack
leaders as always

so what is a problem???
my carriers did not launch strike
all was set up
nothing was ordered to rest
carriers had few planes above capacity but not all and everything below 110% of max capacity - cap was flying as normal
sorties were at max

frustration makes playing tiring

Are you playing Allies or Japan ? What game date is it ? What was the range to target ? What were your planes set at for max range ? What was weather conditions ?

All of these can affect the chance for a launch.

I seem to recall that irl there was a close encounter in the Indian Ocean of 50-75 miles in early early '42. And also at some point in Coral Sea? FOW and all that?

In this case I would say the following may have effected it...

1. Click on the hex where your TF is and the target TF - and then check the actual weather. Anything other than Clear can cause planes not to launch - especially if either hex is Rain or Thunderstorms - and Thunderstorms do not always show up as clouds.

2. Another thing to check - how many Missions are left on the CVs (forget the actual name) but it will tell you how much ammo the CV has left for air strikes - if the mission total is low then that could cause no launch.

3. Check leaders - everything from air group - to CV commander - to TF commander. They all can cause a no launch.

4. Also, DL (Detection Level) can cause no launch. Was the target TF spotted by any planes in the CV TF ? Any actual Vals / Kates assigned to Naval Strike ? If the enemy TF is spotted by subs or LBA a CV TF may not engage - that is why I usually send the IJN CS ships with CV TFs for spotting, as well as assign 10-30% of my Vals to recon. If one of the seaplanes from the CS or a Val spots an enemy TF I almost always get a launch.

That is all I can think of right now.. if you are still not sure, send me a copy of the save right before the turn was run and I'll take a look..

1.weather was clear - during 2nd air phase i was attacked by lba
2 sorties were at max
3.usual leaders in TF - less important in sqn as none of 6 cv launched any single plane
4. island was reckoned in previous 2 days + there was 20 floatplanes in range 3 and 15+ land based search within range + it is much easier to spot tf docked than in open sea
