3 subs were sank by 4E bombers and a 4th by ships. All this for 2 torps fired at ships and missed. Tarawa has expanded it's AF to 4 so 4E bombers will soon by flying from there.

Only good news was that my ASW guys sank a sub and Bettys sank some MSWs that strayed too far away from their aircover. Spotted units at Chungking have fallen from 134 to 126 in the last month so progress is being made there. Attack should strat some time in mid to late June.

so far things are more or less going according to plan. While Tarawa was more bloody than i thought in terms of capital ships damaged (1 CV, 2 BB, 1 CA), Lae fell alot sooner than i thought.

As usual my 4E bombers are performing superbly making life miserable for submariners and barges.

Good news today also. The CL Boise is back as a Cleveland class cruiser..(cue evil theme music)

I can just imagine that Tom is "thrilled" to have "that" ship back in action.
Any Betty/Nell pilots will be awarded extra leave back to Japan for sinking it again...or something like that.

It will just be added to the long list of ships that my Bettys refuse to attack, my subs can't sink, or that my mines can't damage.

Very strange things happened this turn. 1st B-24s and LB-30s managed to fly 12 hexes from Tarawa to Kwaj eventhough Tarawa is only a size 4 AF. Sevearl valuable MLs were lost

Next, when I checked my top pilots I found that my top pilot WO "Bomber Killer" Handa with 17 kills is now flying a Betty in a squadron that just arrived. He had been wounded several weeks back but had returned flying a A6M3a in another fighter sqaudron. I don't know when he was transfered to bombers. Maybe Ben Afflec's transfer from P-40 to B-25 in "the movie whose name shall not be spoken" was the insperation for this.

Last minute barge evacution from Dobodura was costly. 25 out of 30 barges were sunk but some troops managed to escape and will regrow at Gastmata. Sadly they will probably die there but at leat they will not suffer the indignity of starving.

Chungking dropped another 3K troops and 73 AV. I think that there was a bug that directed some of my supplies to the Chineese. I pulled some troops out of Chungking and suddenly I am having success there. Hopefully this will continue and I can make progress against the forts come summer.

6 barges at Kwaj did a good job of looking like APs and drew an airstrike from Tarawa. AA gunners and Ops losses cost the Allies over 30 AC.

A month after Operation Animal started, Phase 1 is complete. The objectives (Tarawa, Makin, Lae, Gasmata) were secured, and are all operational. Losses were minimal. About 100-150 planes (mostly Op losses), 1 CV, 2 BB, 1 CA damaged. A few transports and MSW's sunk. Japanese losses were also minimal since they mostly bugged out. A handful of ML's were sunk, as were several submarines, and 1 DD.

Troops for Phase 2 are prepped and ready, and is slated to begin in the near future

Bring it on.

Since Animal began on April 1st Kenny scored 509 points to my 446 for a net gain of 63 VP.

Most of the "Low hanging fruit" of the Empire has been picked. The next phase will be costly.

i'm not the only one who can play the barge game. Of course i probably don't have nearly as many as you. I hit another 2 of your barges today...i've must've sunk around 70 barges so far in the last 3 months. And they keep coming

They respawn after 30 days or so. Just slap some scrap wood over some empty fuel barrels, add an engine, and you have a new barge.

I had ordered a daring Cruiser raid on Tenimbar. It sank 17 barges and killed 774 men....right before it caused the game to crash......3 times. After living "Groundhog Day" over and over agin Kenny and I finally changed enough of our orders to keep the turn from crashing. What we ended up with was a pretty uneventfull turn.

Gustuv line. I like that.

I was trying to come up with a good name and had settled on

Last
Emplacements (to)
Stop (the)
Barbaric
Imperialist
Allied
Nations

Until I realized that the acronym would be the "Lesbian Line"

Raid at Kiska did well against the first batch of PTs but not well against the second. Guess I pushed my luck too far.

Chungking continues to grow in men but decrease in AV. They must be repairing the support squads first.

Since "Lesbian Line" is not PC I will settle on either the "Kin gerri" (groin kick in Japanese) or "Widow maker" line.

Raid on Tenimbar ran into a hornet's nest of PT boats. I sank 12 but lost 3DDs. Several more were caught trying to escape and may sink over the next few days.

Allied subs sank 2 TKs and an AK.

Chungking is weird again. The weather cleared and I bombed the air field. Despite the fact that there are no flak guns I lost a Sally to flak and had others damaged. Also, the number of troops went up by 2,000 and the AV went up by 130.
