What part of Kosovo were you in, T?

Camp Olaf Rye, just outside Mitrovica.

Not sure if that camp is still around, not that I had much opportunity to trapse around the countryside. The town's still there though.

Anyone know anything about workman's comp claims? My wrist still hurts from the fall I took 5 weeks ago in a foot chase. Fingers are better but the blade of the hand by the wrist hurts and burns if I put any weight on it.

I am considering suing the idiot I chased but I don't know if he has any $. I have not missed work since my regualr duty involves little more than sitting behind a desk so I don't know if I would even get anything just for having been in pain for over a month.

Department Dr finally agreed to do an x-ray and found that nothing is broken. I am schedualed to see an orthopedist after the New Year if it still hurts. I have a feeling I may have ripped part of the muscle.

That stinks.

I know just a tiny bit about wormans comp from the little bit of HR work I have had to do, but I have no idea how that might relate to law enforcement. It seems that you all would be covered under some sort of different system, given the hazards in your line of work.

Normally all Workers comp will do is cover doctors bills and compensate some for time off due to injury. I am not aware of any sort of compensation for OTJ pain, but their might be some. It should help cover some of the doctors bills though, probably including copays.

Otherwise, see post above regarding cattle prods, stun guns and rubber bullets for alternatives.

Thanks for the info. All DR. bills have been covered and I only missed one OT assigment worth about $300 due to not being at full duty for a week. Officers that get hurt get put in the bureau for light duty so I didn't get any time off since this is my regular assignment.

It would be nice to get something for not having been able to pick my son up not to mention the um..."difficulties" performing my other husbandly duties due to not being able to assume a push up position.

Niceguy: any snow in you part of CO? Weather reports say you are or are about to get hit. And what is with the $85 ticket at Vail? Better come with a snow bunny for that price.

Cute.

Unlike my avitar I actually caught the guy I was chasing. I felt pretty good about this since he was 1/2 my age (19 to my 38) and with full kit I outweighed his puny 130lb frame by almost 100lbs and I fell down at one point. Pain and anger are great motivators.

No anvils fell on my head although it feels like one hit my hand. Now if I could only sue the ACME corporation for selling me faulty products.

She was visiting her brother in Iowa when this happened. She can't leave me alone for 72 hours without me hurting myself.

I had to hear that several times when she got back.

I don't believe I've ever heard the Serb side of the Croatia fighting. Care to give us a synopsis? I'll listen with an open mind.

When I was in Kosovo, I found the locals to be wonderful, both Albanian and Serb. We were sent officially to keep the peace, but were told that we were supposed to protect the Albanians. When we got there, we discovered that we actually spent more time protecting the Serbs (those that hadn't left actually) because of Albanian retribution. That place could be a wonderful place to visit if only the population could learn to live together. Unfortunately, I can't see that happening. Too bad.

Yeah... Same thing in Bosnia; there are some people there(on both sides) who're just waiting for the international forces to pack up so they can get back to murdering each other.

Yup. Lots of illegal weapons movement there. I was floored at all the weapons caches we found. Who knows how many we didn't find.

The mafia there was pretty active too.

Exactly. We found more than a few caches as well, and always figured there were something like three we didn't find for every one that we took away.

Well, i just got me Christmas gift from some of my coworkers (the people who are called "assistants") - they made up a CD of Christmas favorites, going down the list:
Silent Night
Little Drummer Boy
Carol of the Bells,
Oh tannenbaum
etc.
ending with my favorite:

Christmas At Ground Zero (by Weird Al).

Probably hacked a bunch of people off...
