Hey VSWG, those left and right shots look like they came from 2 separate locations. The highway striping is different. So is the topography.

Very good, Dr. Watson! We can therefore conclude that the above images are indeed not from the same location, and are the result of a quick Google Image search.

The road sign looks like Arizona, or less likely Nevada with some writing over the SW edge of the outline of the state.

BUYER ALERTS:

i have mentioned this (Alert #1) before, but i will give an update:

ALERT #1:
i had ordered a bunch of WW2 history books from Amazon.com back in July - last week i finally got SOME of them, for a fast, fast 5 month delivery (almost to the day). Several other books remain on backorder until APRIL.

ALERT #2:
Having been asked what i would like for xmas, i put together a list of DVDs i wanted. My parents ordered several of them from Deep Discount DVD, which i usually had recommended to many people to find stuff and get it shipped reliably.

Well, apparently in the last year or so, things have gone downhill at that company. The original order "disappeared" in shipping (according to Deep Discount they have some sort of dispute with UPS). After much hassle, my parents got a refund and reordered - and it was supposed to have been delivered prior to New Years. It never showed up.

So, my parents called back - and were told it never shipped. They were promised it would go out by overnight and would be delivered today.

So, i called them again to get a delivery number - and guess what: it not only didn't ship, apparently most of the order is not in stock. So, i advised my parents to cancel the order.

So: if you are ordering from these companies, CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! You might eventually get the stuff, but not on time, and only after much hassle.

It's really weird how some people get so royally screwed over by Amazon, and others don't.

I've heard Robert complain about them before, and a classmate of mine from school had a similar problem, while I, on the other hand (knocks furiously on wood), have always received my orders within the timeframe promised.

They're probably out to get you, Robert...

Well, you are dealing with Amazon in Europe, which is probably a whole different beastie...

SOME parts of Amazon are OK - i.e. - i have gotten really good (sometimes great) service from the "affiliates" - the used book dealers that sell through Amazon. But when i order something new, it is rather hit or miss. Lately, mostly misses...

The struggle for the computer backup continues...

after several disk (DVD) writing failures, i need to go out and buy some more Dual Layer disks, but the end is in sight, and hopefully should be done today... and not a moment too soon.

My computer continues to act in an increasingly strange fashion. This morning, i accidentally clicked on a program i know was registered... and it says it has never been registered and will no longer work...

Then, i went to check my strange photo websites... and the bookmarks for them (and a few other things, apparently) have vanished...

So, after the data files are backed up, i'll be attempting to fix the underlying problem, which does not look easy...

I've dealt with a single California-based used-book dealer through Amazon. It took about 5 weeks for the book (Conway's 22-46) to get here, well inside their 4 to 6 week delivery window.

I can't complain so far. The last thing I ordered new was here 2 days later.
