I'm having an odd vision of an anime character flolicking in a field of daisies.

Well, you are dealing with Amazon in Europe, which is probably a whole different beastie...

SOME parts of Amazon are OK - i.e. - i have gotten really good (sometimes great) service from the "affiliates" - the used book dealers that sell through Amazon. But when i order something new, it is rather hit or miss. Lately, mostly misses...

I can't complain so far. The last thing I ordered new was here 2 days later.

Again, i think Amazon-acrost-the-pond is a different beastie... i am not sure what the problem is over here, but i have this sinking feeling/suspicion that the problem is that it is run by Americans...

Problems with the DVD-Burner? Not every burner is compatible with every disk, you might want to check the manufacturer's homepage for compatible products, and/or update the firmware.

Do you use a backup-software, or do you manually backup your files?

Bad joke... I'm still working on it.

I'm taking a break & browsing the forums, though. It's rough work trying to decide whether I should invade Seattle with 2 Division or 3.

Hmmm... Starbucks... Yummm... Might be worth the 3rd division to ensure that I take it......

Making someone falsely believe he has a turn in his inbox is the most horrible crime you can commit on this forum.

Read my lips: You'll pay for this.

Oops. Sorry.

In truth the turn's taking longer than I expected. I'm probably too anal as I'm checking almost everything. I still hope to have it done tomorrow but I'm frankly uncertain about that now.

Manaul backups -

No, the disks are SUPPOSED to be compatible - but i keep getting verification failures, disk write failures, etc. Disk write failures are generally WINDOWS related (some friggin program will start up when it is not supposed to, and things go bad.)

Disk verification failures i suspect is poor QC (note to self - do NOT buy FUJIFILM disks any more).

If you haven't done it already, I'd look for a firmware update for your burner, as these updates contain the newest disk specifications. This doesn't sound like casual failures, although I'm really not an expert. But there are lots of forums that deal with problems like this, and there you can get much better advice.

ctangus,
no problem.

P.S. The Society Islands are known for pretty girls. I'd say that's even more important than the future location of Starbucks...... BANZAI!

Brand new burner - no updates.

Nah, the problem seems to be in the dying computer... Windows scheduler is really wonky, and kept starting stuff when it wasn't supposed to... i've been killing off stuff gradually, and i think i've got that part under control. ANytime ANYTHING started when the disk was burning, the thing messed up the disk.

The Fujifilm disks are just too cheap... it would get pretty near the end before the verification failure, and that is where the problems usually pop up in poorly QCed media (the outer tracks)... i bought some more Memorex disks, and it is in the last part of the creation (verifying...) hopefully about 15 more minutes to go...
