Does anyone have any favorite attachements? Right now I use alot of the engineering for my seiging armies and artillery and gatling for my armies involved in detailed combat. Are their any other attachements that I am should be using. Been thinking about using Zouves.

The early Union troops I add Zouvas because of their abysmal ratings. I like to add Cavalry and artillery to a good number as well.

Certain important forts I make sure to add bomb proof and breastworks. And then as I advance I add that to the ones on the front lines. Also I give those forts ( as I can) something other than improvised arms.

I make set Divisions for sieging, 3 Brigades and 2 Siege Artillery, I give the Infantry the engineer attribute and usually artillery as well.

Artillery brigades I give rapid fire too I usually add baggage train as well.

Cavalry I generally give quality Horses and horse artillery.

My favorite attachments are Gatling II and Henry Rifles!

Noticed my first unit with Henry Rifles last night.  I believe they were Yate's Sharpshooters.  Man, were they effective.  Totally devastating from even two hexes away.  I really like the Gatling attachment escpecially with the Gatling II upgrade.  Artillery is nice and I almost never use the cavalry because I have not perfected charging as the Union.  I never pick the right time to charge because my charges are usually repulsed and then my boys become disordered.

Thanks for all the tips. My game that I finally got going as the South with decently armed Inf. and some Siege Arty. has been wiped due to me rebuilding my compooter and forgetting to save files, even though I did save some TalonSoft BG files I modded, I forgot the FoF files. Figures. However, I now have a 160GB external HD so i don't have to use the CD Writer/Copier anymore, plus I just upgraded to Windows XP finally, and will soon have 2 HD's that I can transfer files back and forth between them, plus, I am building another comppooter, since my old one is well old, but I am getting a new 2.2 to 2.8 GHz CPU Intel Northwood for that old machine, and it has 3 GB of 266 RAM, so it can play new games like FoF and BfME2 and return of the Witch ing etc. without a problem.

I wish I had remembered to save the 2 FoF game files that I needed. to save. Now, I have to see if I can download FoF again since my hard copy of the game seems to be in mail limbo about 10 miles away from me, with what appears to be only a numerical address without a street name!!! And that is nearly an impossibility since I paid for it with Paypal and paypal automatically gives your address to the seller.

Pooh-pooh and do-do and bat guano Batman!!! What or Wot moves besides the bowels!??!

Attachments ?

attach what you need, what you can use, how you plan on using it

Med is good, scouts can be a big help also, Sniper is good if you got a good shooting unit with a long range weapon (you want to fire from at least 2 hexes for it to help)

I do not go with the GGuns too much, I fight a war of movement, and they do not help on the attack

attached Cav, don't forget, they also help vs a Charge, not only with one

Bde Arty can be good, but remember your range, you need to be with in 3 hexes for it to do anything (I do like to add a Sniper and Arty to a unit with less then the best sniper weapon)

did I mention Med, get used to it, and start planning on buying it

one I do not like, but have used, is if you get a unit with the Digger skill, add two attached slaves, and then rush them around digging your battle line for you

Richmond Muskets (later Spencers) and 2 Meds are a good shock troop

any unit that gets blasted, two meds are also good, but I pity the poor fools who have to charge a dug in gun placement (be sure to pull your General way before you make the charge)

in case you missed the hints in the AARs, snipers vs Guns is good, Inf Chargeing Guns is bad, Cav Chargeing Guns is bad, Cav firing into the flanks/rear of Guns is good, but can still hurt

which will say, one of my old tricks, of a Unit with 2 GGuns placed in front of a How/Indirect Gun, can be deadly, the enemy charges the Spencer and gets messed up, the How finishes em

of course, depending on numbers and placement, a Sniper placed behind a Gun can do wonders also

scouts will help with getting the battle field and options you want, if you fight HW, Ballons can be helpful

Sigals are good if you do a lot of movement and trying to get behind the bad guys

did I mention Meds ?

you want at least one per Div

Excellent insight HardSarge! I did not even think of the diggers with two slaves. I will have to pay more attentio to the MEDs. I have yet to provide one.

Med attachments will have more uses with the new patch, besides the fact they lower losses taken in combat

Even under current rules they have a use, I give the trait to my brigades that are going to be in , for example, Kenewha, Hospitals do not extend to provinces with no rail ( which is in my opinion a problem) so if disease hits a garrison in such a province they can be devastated.

I wasn't adding any of the Uber Weapons to my Confed units, and wouldn't do so except for a few if I played the Union, as I like to keep things within some degree of hsitorical accuracy. 'What if's' are OK and are part of evey historical based game, but having too many repeating rifles and Gatling Gun type weapons etc. is like allowing the Germans to have all Panthers and Tigers etc. and the Soviets to have all T-34's and KV's in early WWII and all T-34-85's and IS' etc. in late WWII. It wasn't so.

I never read of any ACW line unit having an enhanced Med. capability, a bit far-fetched for me.

If I ever recieve my CD copy then I might alter some files to be a bit more accomodating and accurate, but I think this may indeed be a 'Lost Cause' that may be 'Gone With the Wind'.

A flatuation instead of a salutation.

Ben Franklin wrote a book entitled 'fart Proudly'. I think I'll read it again and do what the title suggests.   $60 for what?? A penny saved is a penny earned and a penny lost is lost.

I'm not 100% positive about this, but my guess is that if you make attributes you don't like very expensive the AI might opt not to buy them. And if you don't buy them either, that means they won't be in the game. That should be easily changed in one of the data files.

Chris, you have great Civil War expertise and many of your posts make an important contribution, but this kind of remark does not. You do not seem to like it when you get negative feedback, but your own language is off-putting and invites negative responses.

remember that different strategies will lend to different attachment, as U player I tend not to add the Z attachments as 62 is reletively qiut or attackingat hugely favorable odds.. and by 63 the troops are much better. I add baggage and gat to art, and after I am able I like the better riffles, especially when you can move cavalry after shooting.. they are great... tent to get in close after softening up enemy and try to routthem with infantry.. I LOVE those heavy artillery.. three hex away? no prob.. someone mentioned medical, I will use that when I start back up after patch
