BOKU STRATEGY GAMES CANCELS CONTRACTS WITH SHRAPNEL GAMES

Fort Wayne, IN February 1st, 2007. Software game publisher Boku Strategy Games
announced today the termination of all contracts with Shrapnel Games. Boku
Strategy Games has full ownership, rights and interest to our award winning game
line. This includes Horse and Musket:Great Battles of the 18th Century,
expansion packs, Horse and Musket 2 Series titles, Dragoon: The Prussian War
Machine, Prussia's Glory, Combat Command 2 series and The War Engine. This
also includes our unreleased board game, BaseBrawl.

All work from Boku Strategy Games on the long delayed release of 82nd Airborne
has also been cancelled. "We are sorry to the fans who have been waiting for
this release but they are going to have to continue to wait." says Michael
Cooney, owner of Boku Strategy Games,
"We worked hard on this title for two years, updating it and getting it through
beta testing. All that was left was for Tim Brooks to do his
bit - create the actual scenarios - and, four years later, we're still waiting. It's time
for Boku to move on."

Boku Strategy Games solicited their work on 82nd Airborne to Shrapnel Games but
only received an offer of $500. "We find this amount quite bizarre given that
over a thousand hours was put into this effort. We have yet to see any monies
from our development and would like to ask Shrapnel Games if they ever intended
on selling this game after collecting on all the pre-sales", questions Mr.
Cooney.

Boku Strategy Games is currently looking for a publisher of their unreleased
board game BaseBrawl and plans to announce a long term deal for our current
computer games. We will have more news on current and future titles in the near
future.

Hmm, seems like Matrix would make a cozy home for Boku.

Hmmmm... said I wasn't gonna post for a while and also noticed that I had misspelled 'trench' in my ID (sheesh) and need to fix that but.... what the heck.

Noticed that all the entries of Matrix aquiring the rights to HnM, etc, have disappeared from their announcements. Guess things were a bit more complicated than were seen originally. Also, I should note here that.... I had gotten word through the grapevine that Matrix was potentially looking for someone to handle the HnM programming (I am a progineer myself) so.... hopefully things can be worked out here between Matrix and Boku. Could be the start of a great relationship!

Also... I should note here that... for those that follow this forum.... I had a bit of a problem with the potential plan to increase the size of the hex artwork by 4x while leaving the unit art the same size... and thus decreasing the amount of space that the figurines take up in a hex by... 75% but.... figured that once people that follow this forum got a look at what that would look like in practice... then that would be the end of that (doubling the art size of ALL of the art would be plus but... IMO... not just SOME of it).

But... there was ALSO another concern I had that didn't get much visibility... and that is.. I realize Matrix tends to purchase the rights to games and release them with just minor updates... and I respect that and for many games, IMO, that is the right thing.

But... with HnM2 Dragoon.. IMO.... I think a PLAN is needed on exactly how many games there are gonna be.... at least with respect to the 7YW.

IMO... the name... Prussian War Machine... is more than just another game name... and IMO is succienct relative to the army that FtG inherited from his father, arguabaly the most highly trained army ever to walk the service of this planet.

And.... this was the case up to and including the Battles of Prague/Kolin. FtG was victorius at Prague... but the amount of casualties and the loss of two of their greatest generals.. signaled a detioration of what was the PWM that FtG had inherited. Then, right after that.. Kolin.... FtGs (and the Prussians') first defeat in battle.

There was still to come.... FtGs greatest victories.. Leuthen, Rossback, etc. In large part, FtGs improvement in his abilities as a commander (a long way from Mollwitz to Leuthen) to a signficant degree compensating for the detiroation of the PWM. So, IMO, a title like Prussia's Glory is significant also in this sense.

Proposed here in these forums... is a third title... with the Russian battles, etc... and I propose a name for that one... Dragoon: War and Peace in the 18th Century. Whether this is a good title or the best one is one thing... but in any case... the battles against the Russians... maybe the few battles that the Swedes got into during this period... etc.

And then there is a possible 4th title... on the WAS and the 7YR.... that would cover the western front (in Europe) battles. Ferdinand, the British, the French.... etc.

But.... to get to the bottom line here.... IMO... what is needed here... is a PLAN as to what titles are gonna get released and what is the focus of each.

Given that.... if PWM were to cover the battles up to and including Prague/Kolin, then Lobositz and Soor should be moved into PWM... and Kesseldorf, Reichenberg, Gorlitz and Hennersdorf added.

Doing this with the first two... should be quite easy (they are in PG right now), and the next two... would have to be developed. As far as the last two... I have found only minor references to these on the Inet so.... they might just be difficult.

But.... if this were done.... then PWM would feature 11 battles instead of the 5 it currently features.. and that IMO would be a big improvement... a significant selling point... over what is there now.

For PG... would have to replace Lobositz and Soor to start with.... but this would be easy with Rossback and Leignitz... though these would have to be developed. Then..... you would have to fill things out... to get to 10-12 battles.... with other (typically smaller) battles but.... there are enough of them to do this (not sure which ones but there are enough).

For the Russian battles game... I only count 4 battles with FtG commanding in just two of them. Could add Burkersdorf with scenarios with Russian involvement in the battle, and that would make 5. Then there are two battles with the Swedes, one on the WAS against the Russians and one on the 7YW against Prussia... so that would make 7... and should not be that difficult to add some more that would bring the battle count here up to 10-12 as well.

Anyways.... IMO.... new releases with more than twice the battles featured as in the previous releases.... along with upgrades to the system otherwise.... IMO would make good selling points. But what is as important or even MORE important as this.... a comprehensive PLAN as to the long term releases, support and upgrades... to the HnM series... at least with respect to FtG and the WAS/7YW.

Just have to drop in here when I read "Swedes" :) I have collected so far around 10-12 battles and skirmishes with the Swedes against the Prussians' I have collected lots of material on this small theatre. So if we make the Russian battles, the Swedes with their battles for pomerania would definitely be included.

Magnus.... don't forget that the Swedes fought the Russians in the WAS. They were allied with Prussia and were *supposed* to keep the Russians occupied but.... they lost the battle (or battles) and that was that.

Also.... re my previous post.... one theatre I left out.... is the WAS battles between the Austrians on the one side and the Bavarians, French and Saxons on the other side. I was thinking that these might go in with the 'British part of the 7YW' game but.... what with Ferdinand's battles and de Saxe and Fontenoy... and even King George got into the action there so... probably more than enough north of Bavaria for a 'western front' game and thus... putting the battles and the units of Austria, Bavaria, France and Saxony into the same game that has the Prussians, Russians and Swedes... would make a LOT of different armies represented (just about everyone in fact except the British and Hanoverians) and would fall into my concept of 'War and Peace in the 18th Century' (if it is decided to go that way).

This would also leave more Prussian/Austrian battles to fill out Prussia's Glory.

Yeah, could end up with PWM covering 11 battles and 3 other games... covering 15 or more each.

Yes the Swedes had a battle against the Russians in 1740's, that's correct :) I was more thinking along the SYW Swedes :)

Well we have Austria, Bavaria and Saxony finished. Well Saxony needs to be redone anyway.

Seems like some dirty laundry airing in this "new flash". I'm not taking sides, but that's bad business form.

THANKFULLY you didn't go with Jim Rose at Storm Eagle Studio as he expressed interest in Boku. Would have lost sales over really offensive activation schemes alone.
