Boar, you have always been one of my favorite fans of CC. Mick, Milkman, Boar, Hof, and so many more. Where have the years gone. It's been 6 years since I left Atomic. I worked there for 10 years. I'm old now.

You know, not many people keep in touch with the fan base of thier games. I've always been a fan of the fans.

Thanks,

E aka Mad Bunny

P.S. It may be time to drop the "old man of the sea" and go back to the "Mad Bunny".

Yes, time to go back to the mad bunny...

Wow -- thanks. Kind words from a "Mad bunny!"

Yes, you always have been exceedingly kind and considerate to the "fans." To quote "Crazy Carl" Carl Everett:
quote:

I don't care what the fans think about me, because I don't go home with fans. My job is to help my teammates win. ... If they curse me, I curse them. But after that, it's gone. I don't worry about that stuff. Because fan is short for fanatic -- he's crazy about something he really doesn't know about. And it's proven that 99 percent of baseball fans have no idea what they're watching.

--source Maxim July 2005

Yes, baseball and computer gaming can be seen as similar in this regard, but just keep in mind that Carl also believes dinosaurs never existed.

If there's a gamer's heaven, then I'm sure there'll be a Mad Bunny there. But as for gamer's hell ... well, we all know who'll go there!

Which was not Simtek's idea in the first place. You know who made that decision.

Out of curiosity, will CoI use CC4/CC5-style special effects?

Hi there,

Quick question .. having read the release notes it looks like the multiplayer campaign collab feature has been dropped out, could you please confirm ? If it is indeed the case it's a huge disappointment (because we were so badly looking forward to it).. Will multi collab campaigns be considered for future versions, is it considered a priority ?
From my perspective this was the only missing (and frustrating) aspect of an otherwise unbelievably great game.

Sorry, I don't play CC MP, so would assume this doesn't affect me at all, but what does "collab" mean?

Hi there,
Collab means collaborative, ie making it possible for two (or more players) to share the control of one side's units to play together against the AI or ultimately against other human players. Playing CC against human players for me has always been an incredibly intense experience even if certain balancing issues or inital map positioning issues did occur now and then. CC was the only game that enabled you to play a complete campaign in multiplayer not simple deathmatch which you find in most games, but sadly only head to head.

I was hoping that thanks to the unit tweaking that has taken place and thanks to the larger maps most of the issues affecting the multiplayer experience would be gone ... leaving only the collab point to tackle and thus my question.

Sorry, I don't play CC MP

The BEST wargaming experience that I ever had was playing the Arnhem campaign in CC2. I played the British side and knew that I really didn't have a chance, but man, I gave my opponent fits. A couple of times he got so frustrated trying to snuff me out, that he disconnected from the game (we were playing over a telephone connection), and refused to answer the phone when I tried to call him (to gloat)!!!

It was the campaign(s) that made CC2 so great, IMO. If you ever get a chance, do yourself a favor and find a buddy and try MP out.

Afterthought: You know, that was in early 1998. Sid Meier's Gettysburg and CC2 had come out late in 1997, and I was thinking that computer wargaming was finally coming into its own. Suffice it to say, things have been kind of lean since then. I can't stomach hexes and turns in computer wargames, so I really appreciate the efforts of Matrix to update Close Combat, as I consider it such a classic.

... that rings a bell...  I used to play with my brother a lot ... sadly for me I used to play the allies which was often very frustating indeed ...  there's a lot that comes from the realistic all or nothing effect especially with vehicules ... and armor ...   tanks were so precious that as long as you had one all was always possible ... and so many times victory would be at hand just to see the world fall to pieces from a single panzershreck shot ...   nothing compares to the feelings going through your mind in those times  ...    another cool aspect was the cease-fire you could propose and that would lead to endless games of bluff ...   each side proposing a break in turns and the other party refusing alternately    ...   many times we would stop playing just because we were so annoyed at each other ... and then after a few days or weeks we'd continue the campaign (once we had cooled off)..    yes, even now that we've moved to Coh, nothing really compares to CC  .  I think CC appealed to all those who came from the Wargame (Avalon Hill etc..), just because the pace was sufficiently slow as to enable real tactics and no stupid rushes ....
