Allied subs are getting better. I lost a DD to a sub that fired first.

Total AV loss for the month at Chungking was 500. At this rate a Spring attck is a possibility

Kenny landed at Maloelap. Had the defenders had any supplies they would have pushed the invaders back into the sea. Since they are starving the best I can hope for is to make it costly. Once again my mines are overkill on 2 small ships rather than speading the hurt around.

On the AV going up, could it be the experiance gain is greater then the loss of troops? From what I have seen AV is affected by experiance just as much as quantity.

Possibly, but i think there is a max amount of exp troops get from being bombed or bombarded... in the 60-65 range, iirc. Probably the Chinese troops (which have undergone assault many times by now) have exceeded this level...

2 subs sank today counting the Plunger which was damaged a few days ago. AV at Chungking continues to go the wrong way. They have been under attack for 17 months so I doubt it is experience causing the increase. Every few months the AV seems to hit a support level that takes a while to break through. One thorey is that the base stockpiles supply until there is enough for everyone then distributes it. This would cause wide variations in the AV and supply levels

More bases fall. Only 2 bases remain in NG. I am pretty much on auto-pilot until Feb 44 when I will have enough strength to make a play for Chungking.

Tom,
Are you sure you can afford to let all these bases be captured by the Allies while you wait for an opportunity to capture Chungking?? What happens if you are unable to capture it and Ken runs over some other bases??

The seige of Chungking is not weakening my forces elsewhere. All units involved are CEF or Kwangtung.

I have about 18K worth of AV in China now and I am waiting for about 3K worth of reinforcements before attcking. They will arrive in about 60 days then need to be moved into place. I am hoping to have worn the defenders down to about 8K AV by then.

I am allowing Kenny to take bases that I am willing to lose. When he hits one that I need to hold he will get one hell of a fight. I also have a suprize or two left in me.

Probing attack at Chungking had an interesting result. The adjusted AV was only 154% above base AV vs 254% and 290% for previous attacks. In another couple of weeks I will have to try again to see if this was just a lucky die roll or real progress.

Kenny did a frontal assault at Lunga. Same predictable results as far as the distribution of mine hits. Results are too common to be coincidence. Not something to get all up in arms about but definitly something in the code is causing it to happen. I love the game as is but I am trained to notice patterns and this is a definite one

Here's a thought... IIRC the manual says that a ships speed is a factor in determining the likelihood of a hit from a bomb or shell. I've seen indications of this when air-strikes hit TF's; Getting the first hit on a ship is difficult, especially on a DD. Once the ship has taken some sys damage to reduce the speed then the hits follow quickly. This might well have affected the Parigi combat by:

1) The inital mine hits reduced her speed (probably close to 0) so that she was a sitting duck for the CD guns. She wasn't necessarily targetted more. She just got hit more often.

2) Perhaps the possibility of mine hits are also calculated using the same routine and using speed as a factor in determining hit possibility? This might explain the hit clustering. Once you've hit one mine you're more likely to hit another because your speed is lower.

Could be but you would figure that after the 3rd or 4th mine hits she would not be moving at all. I still picture the ship hitting a mine then flying through the air Wile E. Coyote-like, landing on another mine, flying through the air, landing on a another mine, ect. I guess I should be happy that I am sinking 1 ship rather than damaging 7-8.

It is definilty something in the routine but it does not happen every time. Not a big deal but odd.
