Just wondering if anyone has experienced very slow tactical battles early on in the full campaign game. 4500 troops 12 guns vs 4700 troops 24 guns and it took an hour to get to turn 12 of 25.

I compare the slowness to the tutorial battles. I played the tutorial a few times to get the hang of game/interface and to try out different things, but I noticed the tactical battles went rather quickly, maybe 30 mins tops for 4k vs 4k -

The primary difference being advanced rules and fog of war off in the tutorial vs on for the campaign. Do those settings make that much of a difference?

You mean the AI moved slow?

Yes, the AI seemed to take its merry old time. The cursor spent a lot of time as the stopwatch icon. Forgot to mention I am playing For Liberty, not 1848.

I haven't seen that. Is it the settings?

Dunno - thats why I was asking. I can't imagine that tutorial battles with more units on screen take less time than campaign battles with slightly less units on screen. I played one turn and timed it and it took the AI 5:37 to complete its actions. There are 15 visible AI units on screen (leaders, cannon and infantry) and I have 14. I did not try to time the tutorial again but I am certain it was less than 2 minutes to do its thing. It was one of those deals where I told myself I would stop after the battle ended, but it never seemed to :-) I based that "one more turn" mentality upon my tutorial battles...

As for my machine, the config is the same for both the tutorial and campaign - same background programs running - P4 2.26 GhZ 1 GB ram 128mb video card. Is there any campaign type processing going on in the background?

Maybe it is just me. In the tutorial, the battle was long decided before turn 12 (although it ended there) and there was much less combat in the latter turns and more chasing routed units. With the campaign the battle is not yet decided and most units have some fight left in them - although I am beginning to lose.

One thing that I wonder about. Comparing the tutorial battle of equal size to the campaign battle - I was given 16 turns in the tutorial for the battle lenght but yet the campaign battle is scheduled for 26 turns. How is that? Is that random? I might not be able to hold out for the campaign battle duration :-)

I have a similiar machine and don't have any problems like that. It doesn't seem to make sense unless else something is running. I had my virus scan start once during a game and it basically froze the game.
The length of the battles seem to be related to the umber of troops involved. I've had them range from 10 turns to 30 turns and they usually go 2-3 turns past that if played to the end. So if you have 1,000 men and the battle is 30 turns you can bet you are SLIGHTLY outnumbered
Battles seem to end immediately if the only units of one side left on the map are routed. I don't think a battle will end if there are still reinforcements waiting to arrive.

Lower the framerate to improve the AI turn speed. It is on the options screen. With 12 fps, it should improve a lot (default is 25).
If you still have problems, please contact support with your full spec.
