Notice how everthing forward of the mast is missing... eeesh.

And these men of iron sailed this thing from PH to Mare Island, too, to get fully repaired.

I sure hope that wasn't the con at the top of that mast! That must have been a very uncomfortable trip back to the west coast...

USS Shaw was in floating dry dock YFD-2 on the morning of December 7.

Bombs dropped during the second wave attack set off the Shaw's forward magazines:

I forget the build time of a DD pre-war. (My books are at home.) Here is USS Shaw after repair (finished June, '42):
