This is what would have happened with a deliberate assault instead of a shock attack:

Day 1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Chungking

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 1082816 troops, 11626 guns, 1776 vehicles, Assault Value = 21139

Defending force 263235 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 9060

Japanese max assault: 20485 - adjusted assault: 4383

Allied max defense: 7344 - adjusted defense: 1765

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 9)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 8

Japanese ground losses:
94806 casualties reported
Guns lost 2728
Vehicles lost 86

Allied ground losses:
5115 casualties reported

Day 2:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Chungking

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 945301 troops, 7735 guns, 1632 vehicles, Assault Value = 14739

Defending force 256494 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 8696

Japanese max assault: 5318 - adjusted assault: 961

Allied max defense: 6828 - adjusted defense: 1569

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 8)

Japanese ground losses:
31008 casualties reported
Guns lost 910
Vehicles lost 80

Allied ground losses:
5740 casualties reported

End result would have been that I would have lost about 100 less VP worth of troops and had far less disrupted. On the flip side I would be facing lvl 8 forts. Either way this is going to be long and bloody.

What I can't figure out is why my 3000+ engineers have not lowered any fort levels.

Allied carriers have withdrawn from my sea lanes. There will be even less traffic now that B-24s leveled Soerabaja. At least I beat up a few more subs.

i probably leveled all the oil facilities on the first bomb run, therefore no targets for the 2nd run

Thoughts on Loading Infantry Divisions.... - 4/6/2007 5:54:54 AM

Most Allied players will realize that when they are planning offensives into 1944, they will find themselves severely short of AP's and LST's. For example, currently i only have enough LST's to carry 3 Inf Divisions. (despite only losing 1 LST in the war) While the number of AK's available is ridiculous (by that i mean, i have too many)

Therefore i've devised a loading technique to get the best use out of your Transports when loading Infantry LCU's. Lets use a US Inf Division as an example. You will notice that if you take one transport of any type (AK,AP,LST,etc) and load an Inf Division, that the heavy equipment will load first (ie Howitzers, Mortars, etc..) Now if you look at the capacity points of the 3 major transports in the game you will see the following...

AP - Troops (1 pt), Artillery (3 pts)
LST - Troops (2 pts), Artillery (1 pt)
AK - Troops (6 pts), Artillery (2 pts)

as you can see the LST is your ideal Transport for loading Infantry LCU's as its the most efficient. While the AK is only good for loading Artillery and AP's are only good for loading Infantry. I already told you that i only have enough LST's for 3 Divisions, which means i need to make use of the my numerous AK's and less numerous AP's. Unfortunately you can't manually separate the Artillery and Infantry in a Infantry Division in the game to make utilization of AK's and AP's more efficient. But i've come up with a way how....

Since Infantry Divisions will always load Artillery first...its best to load an Infantry Division with AK's first. So if you load an Inf Division with 2 AK's (7000) on turn 1, and 1 AK (7000) on turn 2. You will load 99% of the LCU Artillery and only 20% of the Infantry.

*Loading 3 AK (7000) on turn 1 is less effecient, than splitting the loading 2 AK (7000) and 1 AK (7000) in separate turns.

Now that most of the heavy equipment is on AK's (3 of them), you will be mostly left with Infantry and Support squads, which require AP's. This is more straight forward, in which i find using 4 AP (4000) to be the most ideal.

So in the end i have 7 ships carrying a US Inf Division (3 AK, 4 AP). If you were to just use AP's to load the entire Division, you would need 6 AP's to carry a US Inf Div. So my method will save you 2 AP's per Division, which adds up quickly in 1944. For example, if loading 10 available Divisions in 1944 using my method, you will save 20 AP's for use elsewhere (ie carrying HQ's)

I've also downgraded my method for use in RCT, in which i find 2 AK (4500) and 1 AP (6000) to be the most ideal. Or for ANZAC Bde's [1 AK (7000), 2 AP (2000)]. Soon enough this method will be tested in combat.

Nice Frigate....ASW rating of 14 can be misleading though...here's why

- Type 2 DC has an accuracy of 9 and a explosion effect of 357
- The Allied Fletcher class DD has a ASW value of 8...however she carrys Mk 9 DC's
- The Mk 9 has an accuracy of 30 and a explosion effect of 200
- So the Allied DC is 300% more accurate, but the Jap DC is 75% more powerful
- Therefore u can stipulate that the Allied DC's are about 110% more effective than Japanese DC's
- so the Fletcher class DD really has an ASW of about 17

It still has a higher ASW and AA rating than most of my DDs so I am happy to have it. Turn will be run when my wife gets off the one (of 3 computers in our house) that has WiTP on it.

The attack at Chungking had the tanks shocking and the INF deliberate attacking. Got 1:1 on day 1 but missed by 40 points (less than 3%) on Day 2. Curious why the 3,000 engineers didn't lower forts on Day 2 with such a close result. Hard to tell what the losses were due to the pounding of Paramushiro Jima.

Allied paratroops captured a level 6 AF off of the PI and can now cut the sea lanes from the DEI to the HI. I am kicking myself for having built up the bases.

SS Snapper, the only survivor from the Manila raid on Dec 7th, exacted some revenge slamming a couple fish into some fat japanese Tankers...

The chinese are screaming for help, and the allies are sending there heart felt aplogies....

Paramushiro Jima landing went well (those AGC's are awesome)....

Batan Is. invasion will occur next turn, fingers are crossed as i expect heavy japanese air attacks out of Okinawa....

I am now conducting a 2 prong offensive...or is one just a diversion??

I recognized Battan Island as a weak spot too late. Tinas were flying reinforcements in when they were intercepted by the carrier air. Now if I can just get the Kamis to fly as a group. First attacks were slaughtered. The CV group also intercepted some of my fleeing transports.

After 400 turns sent back and forth b/t myself and Tom, bugs are expected to crop up, especially with a game on this scale. But on my side (the allies), i'm pretty happy with the amount of bugs that have occured. So here's a list of the current bugs for the allied side....

- 117th USAAF and 120th USAAF Base Force each have a fragment that is unmovable, essentially making those fragments "static"

- my 1st and 3rd USMC Para Btn's have disappeared when transferring them by air b/t bases

- a fragment of the 249th IAD FG from the USSR w/ two Yak-1's appeared in San Francisco w/o USSR activation

- the Alf Floatplane from the sub I-29, that was sunk near Emirau Is, appeared the next day at Emirau Is, available to the allies.

- my barges carrying engineers to Kai Is, would've been savagely beatened by japanese CA's, had the turn not kept locking up. Only cancelling the japanese CA mission allowed the turn to continue, therefore sparing my barges.

Looking at the VP score i'm down about 30,000 points (21,000 to 51,000). When Chungking falls, i believe this will make the game unwinnable for me, so i'll be playing for a "draw".

While i dominate the Sea's and the Air. The Japanese Army is HUGE, dominating all of Asia. I estimate some 100 Divisions worth of troops on Japan occupied Asia and the Home Islands. So without the Chinese Army, that leaves my paltry Allied troops to deal with this massive Army...totalling maybe 40-50 Divisions.

so to head the advice..."never get invovled in a land war in asia" i forsee the following "end" to the Japanese Empire, with the Pacific back in Allied hands, and Japan left to govern the Chinese and Indians.

Thats my prediction...

Have your people talk to my people. I think we could reach a diplomatic solution. You can have the "Pacifc" and I will rule the land.

Turn will be sent as soon as wife gets off the good computer.

It is March of 1944, and the Allied forces are already a serious threat to the Japanese homeland. They may not be a serious invasion threat yet, but you should be able to start pounding his industry into rubble! Even the largest army still needs food, ammo, spare parts, replacement equipment and manpower... I have not read the entire AAR, but from this snapshot I think you have a VERY good chance in this game! Then again, I've not yet played past January, 1942....so what do I know?

Major surface action at Battan Island actually went my way. (See attached photos). My subs got slaughtered however. Air combat was also pretty nasty. In the end I was outscored 1292 to 822 but since I am playing for a 1:2 draw I am happy with this.

The whole logic behind sending CAs and DDs to their doom against spotted BBs was that I have already written off my surface fleet and saw an oportunity for them to take some Allied ships down with them. To lose them to LBA while in port would have been disgraceful.

once again, another interesting surface engagement to be anaylized. This time comparing few Large Surface TF's vs multiple Smaller Surface TF's.

Here's what each side brought into battle

Japan (45 ships)
- 11 CA
- 18 CL
- 16 DD

Allies (36 ships)
- 8 BB
- 7 CA
- 3 CL
- 18 DD

Japan divided up here warships into 2 TF's...
TF 1 (25 ships) - 11 CA, 14 CL
TF 2 (20 ships) - 4 CL, 16 DD

The Allies divided up here warships into 3 TF's...
TF 1 (12 ships) - 4 BB, 2 CA, 6 DD (fast BBs)
TF 2 (12 ships) - 4 BB, 2 CA, 6 DD (slow BBs)
TF 3 (12 ships) - 3 CA, 3 CL, 6 DD

7 Surface Engagements were fought in all....
Japan TF 1 vs Allied TF 1
Japan TF 1 vs Allied TF 2
Japan TF 1 vs Allied TF 3
Japan TF 1 vs Allied TF 3
Japan TF 2 vs Allied TF 2
Japan TF 2 vs Allied TF 3
Japan TF 2 vs Allied TF 3

unfortunately my best TF (Allied TF 1) was only engaged once, while Allied TF 3 squared off against a superior foe in 4 seperate battles! Needles to say that Allied TF 3 was nearly obliterated. I went with smaller 12 ship TF's cause i was under the impression that only 12 ships can fight per round. Since we aren't playing with combat animations on, i can't confirm this theory, but looking at the combat reports, it would seem not to be the case, and would've been better had i divided my warships into 2 TF's instead of 3 TF. Luckly my CV-TF and LBA was able to pick up some assists and turn a major Japanese Victory into only a Minor.

Anyways here are the combined results...of each TF

Japan TF 1
CA Tone, Shell hits 10, and is sunk
CA Chikuma, Shell hits 6, on fire
CA Takao, Shell hits 20, and is sunk

Japan Losses (7-11 ships)
- 6 maybe 7 CA
- 1 maybe 4 CL

anyways...any thoughts on how i should've distributed my warships differently??
