I know, ive never seen a forum so dead, not have i kept coming back to a forum with no activity so many times!  Its like i dont learn!

I love the game, Ive played hours and hours just to make it halfway thru the Gazala scenario.  I disagree with the developer's that its "an entirely new game".  I mean come on , it is not.  About 75% is straight from the DB series, and the other stuff is just little bitty add ons to that system.  The changes made have been awesome, and really add depth to the game, but they dont make it an entirely new game in my opinion.  Im not bashing here, i love this game, but it is not a brand new game.  Matrix always sells their stuff for $50, so its not surprising to see this one sell for that price, but it shouldnt be that high.

I agree Storm95, it seems quite a few folks opted not to make the purchase based on the 4 scen lineup.  Again, i havent even touched 3 of the 4 scens, so i think passing up the game for that reason alone has been a wrong decision for many.

JSS and Gregor have been awesome, answering my goofy questions very quickly and without frustration.  Thanks guys.

But, gosh the BF forum is dead here and just as dead at Run5.  What's the deal?  Is everyone so busy playing they can't post or is there not many copies sold yet?

I've no answers to this one either, although personally I think it has something to do with the PBEM patches. Once the first one came out a few people started to look for games, then they realised another patch was required so it all stopped again. I'm personally playing c.3 DB games, waiting until the BF patch comes through (although it may not change much you'd hate to start a game and then realise your opponent has added a patch).

I'd have to agree that the four sce's coming with the game provide plenty of action.  I've only played MG and Gazala and will continue to play only these two for weeks to come.  The other two will be next so I've got lots of play time just with the sce's that shipped.
When Korsun Pocket came out it only had the Cherkassy Pocket sce's (which I think there were 3 related to this battle) and TAO.  BiN wasn't much different so I don't understand why people complain about the number of battles included with the original game.  (if they compare it to toaw, its not a fair comparison ... too many differences to really compare the two ... maybe its timing since toaw III was just released several months ago)

I hope things pick up soon.  Its a great game.  The more I play it, the more I like it.

I have played the DB series a lot over the past 2+ years, logging around 95 ladder games and over 100 non-ladder games. I only play against the AI to get the hang of the game, to develop scenario strategies, basic tactics, etc. PBEM is the most rewarding way to play this game and, for me, the problems with initial release as well as a need for a second patch have kept down my playing time. I have only one PBEM going right now but several to start once we know we won't have to restart afterwards.

Someone mentioned above that maybe there is a lack of interest due to there only being 4 scenarios and I think this is part of the problem as well. Personally, the only stock scenario that I have a strong interest in is Gazala (I would gladly buy the game if it had only this scenario as my personal interest in that stong). I plan on trying the Crusader user-created scenario by Brubaker as soon as the patch is out as I'm very interested in that as well. Over the years I've grown tired of Market Garden games so, unlike many others here, that one doesn't do much for me (this doesn't mean anything of course as I wasn't too interested in the classic Ardennes Offensive scenario for the same reason). Regarding Saipan and Novorissisk, they are ok for learning the game system but did not excite me all that much... again, personal preference/interest.

I know that excellent scenarios will be created by others and I sometimes wish that I had the interest in helping with this, but I don't. I play the SSG games because I enjoy the challenge of PBEM play and the superior (IMO) DB "system" in general.

It's only a matter of time before interest picks up and I have no doubt that this will happen once we have a good patch for PBEM play and a few more scenarios added to the library. Hang in there!

Steve

Yeah very dissapointed how quiet its been. I really thought this game would take off. Not saying that it hasnt but with the lack of posts lately it would seem otherwise. I just dont understand why the patch hasnt been released yet. We are a couple of months from release and ive still not played 1 single PBEM. Actually i have started one but we got to turn 2 of MG and it said "Expecting turn 3" and so far ive had no reply as to a fix. Very frustrating indeed.

Come on SSG. Youve been so brilliant in the past, dont let us down now!

...Maybe the developers should release some extra scenarios to make it more interesting to potential buyers. Hint Hint.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

I have enjoyed the little I have gotten to play before becoming consumed with beta testing BFTB.

Whats the game shaping up like so far? I was not as intrested in TCOA as the battles didnt grip me and there were far too many what-if scnarios that i didnt even bothered firing up. I still enjoy the engine though and have been checking the forum often enough. Cant wait to see some snow covered terrain!!! I still think they need a better contours tool though. An overlay would be nice that you could click on and off. Also the tree terrain could do with tarting up, i hate the cut and paste feel of those woods!

I'm finding that there is an immense learning curve which is hampered by a non-intuitive AI and a confusing manual.

I've enjoyed it and feel it is well done and what I expected. If you know DB, easy to get into this system as certainly similar. PBEM next.

This is a very good game, once you've understood how it works, and for PBEM it is perfect.

Are you talking about Battlefront or Battle Of The Bulge?

I was talking about Battle of The Bulge.

I'm new to this series and thus still learning the system, though I've been pleasantly surprised just how enjoyable playing this title can be. The seemingly spartan graphics belie what an elegant and refined engine lurks under the hood.

Battlefront is truly a first-rate war game. A few more battle scars against the AI, and perhaps I'll be ready to engage in a few PBEM skirmishes. Definitely looking forward to it!

Why is this game forum so quiet?

Is it because there hasn't been many sold?  Or is it that its so good (now that the 1.02 patch is out) that everyone is busy playing?

I've never seen it so dead.  Even the SSG/Run5 site is more quiet than usual.

Well, I'm playing.  I just got an email game going and plan on adding another in a few days.  I'm enjoying it.  I want to see more comments from other players but there's not many to view.

since I'm here posting ..
... and my wish:   that SSG puts out a package of either one battle with a few sub-scenarios OR a package with two or three battles ... like they did with Across the Dnepr for KP.  I'd be willing to pay for it.      Actually, I'd take anything from the past games like TAO or Across the Dnepr or Korsun Pocket (or a totally new one).  I know these old battle would have to be reworked for the new scale and engine ... but the art work is there to use.

Totally agree SSG should be releasing more scenarios. Replaying the limited number that were initially realeased gets tedious after a while. I'm rather disapointed and may shelve this game soon. I'm regretting making this purchase.

I have 4 PBEM matches ongoing at the minute so i guess im playing rather than chatting but i check back often to see if theres any scenario news or general banter - mainly at RUN5 forum but yeah i agree, its quiet both there and here.

As for not sold many, i think this game has been very successful sales wise from what ive heard.

I think it would have been alot busier had there been a tutorial shipped with the game and PBEM had been working in the first place. It must have put alot of people off. At least i knew the basics of the game engine from playing BII/BIN alot. I can imagine how clueless people would have been when the tried to play it for the first time without any help.

What with PBEM working correctly, JSS's excellent tutorials and good support from matrix games, im hoping it will pick up again in the coming months - especially as more scenarios are released and Robjess gets the first tournament underway. This game is fantastic at 1.02 and i hope many more people will discover what a great game this really is.

Some reviews from some big online / offline gaming magazines would go along way as well. Most wargamers will remember the review of Korsun Pocket by PC Gamer and the following years Wargame Of The Year award in the same magazine. Now thats a good way to get peoples attention!

Come on matrix, send some copies of this game to gamespot/ign/gameshell/gamespy/pczone/pcgamer/pcformat etc. Surely it wouldnt harm the sales?

Have you tried playing any PBEM games yet?

I will admit playing the AI over and over will get boring with only 4 scenarios but this game really is all about playing human opponents. BIN/BII had pretty much the same amount of content upon its release as BF does and people are still playing these games right now after several years.

Did you download the 5th scenario, Crusader? Its PBEM only but it will take you a while to get through a game in PBEM.

There are other scenarios in the pipeline as well. Check out SSG's website and if you look at the scenarios page you can see the amount of scenarios made for each release over the last few years. Granted it takes a while but theres more than enough scenarios in that back catalouge to keep a wargamer going for some years to come.

I would love to see this too. Although I'm nowhere near exhausting the current scenarios (and may not for some time yet), I'd definitely love to see a pay add-on! Battlefront is a solid war game, absolutely love it.

Hello, here (in France) the game is also very quietly welcomed...

But as gamer and recently tester for a big strategy magazine, i'm making big effort to demonstrate that it's a great game

I'm playing and I'm even trying to figure out how to make scenarios.

How do you start a new map with new terrain?
