Draft slow down - 5/24/2007 11:05:46 AM

I wanted to run a couple of seasons with puresim before I picked a team. However, when it gets to the ammy draft, each team takes forever to process. The box says "Scouts are Evaluating Talent." Is there any way to speed this up?

Thanks!

Eric

[edit]
I tried reinstalling without any of the CE patches and there's still a slow down. Sometimes the picks go quickly, the other times the teams take the full time. "Scouts are Evaluating Talent" occurs more in latter rounds. I tried this with my pre-CE PS and it zoomed through the ammy draft. I'd use that, but the interface isn't nearly as good.

I got through the ammy draft and now the FA draft is really slow. The box says Week 15 (xx% Complete). It's going about 30-45 sec per percent. I'm going to uninstall and try without CE5, CE4, CE3 etc ...

I'm running the game with only up to CE2 and the ammy draft runs fine and so does free agency. But I would still like to use the newest edition. Other bugs are getting to me ... like me having to auto fill rosters for teams under 60 players despite them being all cpu.

ebeezy,

At first I wasn't sure what you were talking about, since upgrading to CE 5 on one of my PCs, I hadn't reached the ammy draft yet. Well, I'm just tackling it for the first time now and it is slow!! I did the same thing on another PC, also running CE 5, but that one sped through like a bullet train. The only real difference between the two is processor speed. The slower of the two is obviously the one with the weaker processor.

I also considered association size, but the larger association (on the faster PC) went MUCH quicker than the smaller association (on the slower PC). I don't know what it could be.

Seriously.... it's been 29 minutes and it's just gotten to me at the end of the first round.

If this keeps up, I'm going to shelve the game and not play it. This is absurd and ridiculous.

It's been 20 minutes and we're only by team 5-of-30; round 2/35.

Strange -- it's gotta be the association size, or a combination of factors. I had no problem with my 1947 ammy draft. It went quickly.

What other parameters did you set? I know that the engine has breaking points, and what you've described may have put the sim into overheat.

KG, this is the beginning of the 4th year with this association. The ammy draft we ran after the 1st year went by smoothly and very quickly; no problems on the 2nd go. This would make it only the 3rd time I run the ammy draft.

It's an MLB replay association dating from 2006, so there are only 30 teams.

In a recent ammy draft I did in a 30-team fictional association, one that was starting its 7th year (thus larger than the association I'm having the issues with), it went by in a blur. Wicked fast, flawless, no problems. I haven't changed any parameters that I am aware of; other than inputting the occasional missing player pic, I've made no changes-- the association is stock.

It's my turn finally. A 2-hour round-- 33 more round of this? I don't think so.

Hmm -- so the draft is now all fictional players, correct?   OK, maybe the player-generation scheme has already generated all the worthwhile draftees,  so the computer is going through all these loops & hoops to find a player worth drafting.   The remaining draft pool may simply be scrubs. Could that be it?   If that's the case, then just terminate the draft and move on.

KG,

Another great guess, but alas no-- there were easily more than 30-40 players (just at first sight) that had the stuff to go STRAIGHT into the majors. For example, I had earmarked a couple of young pitchers (in their early 20s) to put in AAA for 1 year then straight to the bigs. Players which, if I were an AI team, I would have put into the Majors with no time in the minors. We're talking pitchers with Stuff/Velocity/Control in their mid-70s and higher. There were numerous position players with their three offensive ratings, Contact/Power/Eye, also in the 70s.

These were not scrubs... oh, no. There were enough seriously qualified "amateurs", that I could have put an entire, contention-worthy, team together using just them.

So that's it, my Replay_2006 association is officially ruined. Unwilling to wait out a draft that eats up 2 hours per round, I force-exited the game using C+A+D. Now, when I try to open it in Puresim, I get an error:

"PureSim Baseball 2007 - Community Edition was unable to upgrade the association from version 0 to version 385 Detailed Error Desc:Object variable or With block variable not set"

Yeah... that makes sense to me...

I click OK and the game just goes away, it never really loads. So now my Replay_2006 association is effectively dead.

Hate to hear this, man. Sorry for your disappointment.

Turn the clock back 10 or 20 or 60 years and try it again.

I did, just not THAT drastically. I'm playing the '97 Marlins to see if I can win the pennant just as they did.

Bumping.

Hoping that, as Shaun is now active again, he may know what might be causing this or what may be to blame...

Can you send me this association?

You need to zip up only the .psa file. Use www.sendthisfile.com (its free) and send it to shaun@puresim.com

Shaun

Hello, Shaun!

I've sent the association, though it appeared as if it were much larger than it actually is.

Anyway, you've got it! Let me know what you can find. Thanks again!

Thanks for sending this. I found the bug. It had to do with using player affinity mode in an association that was 3 years beyond available Lahman data. It will be fixed in the next release.

Actually, now that I think about it...

Shaun? Will the fix in the next release be retro? i.e. will it "fix" my association or will it only take effect to prevent the problem 'going forward'?

Hello, Shaun!

Is this something I can reverse on my copy of the association somehow? This way I can save having to beg you to fix it and return it.

No need to apologize, Big Cheese. Just knowing that it will be fixed is enough for me! Exactly when it will get fixed isn't a problem... the mere fact that it will happen is all I needed to hear... or... errrrr... read, I suppose.

Thank you again!

Frozen,

Please try 1.60, I think it should have you cleared up.
