Excellent ideas for improvements. Those kind of changes would help both sides.

Keep up the AAR... you have done good job.

I think improvements have to come mostly in form of mods and house rules Aztez!
It's too late for this game, that's for sure

Monster attacks by B-29's from 6k feet today and a huge invasion force is closing in on Iwo!?
I've ordered most of my subs to sortie and load up with mines. They will shadow the enemy TFs and
place mines in their wakes when they unload. Then it will be time to unleash our night naval bombers.
Got 50-60 with 85 exp standing by.

With Uber CAPs like this WitP isn't so funny anymore:

Allied aircraft
FM-2 Wildcat x 48
F6F Hellcat x 246
F4U-1 Corsair x 40
F4U-1D Corsair x 177

Would need 2000 Jap ac to get through it, so I'll dig up some more kamis

One of the most amazing complaints I get from Andy is that he doesn't feel his airstrikes
inflict enough casualties when attacking my LCUs - especially when I divide them
Sometimes I need to present him with a lot of targets, but this usually only increases casualty count if
he has enough strike ac. Ground attack missions cause way too many casualties if you ask me.

Andy's desperate use of 400 B-29s shows that he has realised that Camranh Bay can't be
capture before the garrison at Saigon has been eliminated; which WILL take time.
This shock attack was a complete failure!

It's possible Andy want's Camranh as a B-29 base before his next invasion is launched.
Since it's already enroute he's already late....

can´t understand such an attack. Where´s the sense in sending 400+ 4Es (not to talk about B-29s) on an airfield / port attack. He can´t damage the airfield more than 100% and this would be probably easily achieved with 150 bombers also... Better for you to see such monster attacks on one target instead of three "baby monsters" on three targets (which would all three be destroyed also! )

7 or 8 IIRC.... Reminder to myself: don't build Hue AF.

What impresses me is the Allied supply line. No port here and in such a raid B-29 dropped more than 2000 tons of bombs, and used several hundred tons of aviation gas (even couting the short range). I wonder if Andy real had supply drop by 2500 just for this raid as it should...

Supply is way to easy to accumulate...would take a massive effort to fly in enough bombs and fuels to launch such a raid.
Should remember that I've been blocking supply lines every now and then and supply has to move a long long way from Bangkok to Hue.

I didn't build Hue - left it as a size 1(5) AF. It took Andy 2-3 weeks to expand it to size 7.
And he complains about where I get all my engineers from to build forts

and still he achieved only 20 supply hits... he would kill more supply if he not attacks with all bombers at once but four times with "smaller" attacks as everytime he achieves supply hits (should probably the same in the end) but he damages the airfield 4 times 100%, not just 1 time...

looks to me like a supply shortage here (possibly a big one too) . long live the japanese jungle training camps in saigon

This would also suggest that his huge B29 fleet in Hue has sucked in all avalable supply .. doubt you'll see those B29's again from Hue anythime soon (hopefully)

I can confirm that those B29 monster eat A LOT OF supplies.

You might keep that in mind and maybe you get an advantage with it later on.

Think Andy realized that he's stuck in Saigon for a while and sent all his B-29s to Camranh in an
attempt to take it with his men from Hue. With 8 forts he will have to bring more troops..and supply them

A HUGE enemy invasion fleet is gathered around the Bonins.
Will they make another attempt? We got 120k supplies and 3k AP on the 2 islands. Not sure he wants to hurt himself that
badly?

The Combined Fleet is now almost battle ready. If we wait until the enemy has shot his bolt we may be able to put a hurt on him.
The Ise got a daylight combat exp of 96!! The Yamato is down to 14 sys.

We now got 81 Reppus, some 24 are ready.

HI reserves are up to 1020062
Oil reserves in the Home Islands are down to 170k

Within 4-6 weeks we may have to start drawing on our HI reserves. I'm comforted by the fact that much HI will be working at
100% capacity in India, China and Formosa. Since we already have a HI surplus output, this may be more than enough.

Still, I'm doing my outmost to move in more crude and got 30k about to unload.
The 400k in Palembang is all but lost, but I'm getting more and more tempted to occupy Okha in Sakhalin and 'rob' the oil there A huge tanker fleet protected by our Reppus and Shindens? can protect us from the Reds.

I think you are well and truly home with your HI.

Remember, you do have some supplies of indigenous oil, plus some in China and Manchuria.  These will produce some HI every day anyway.

Once you lose the DEI, the deficit will be only a few thousand per day, as you have just about finished shipbuilding.  Turn off any unnecessary aircraft and engine factories, and you woun't run out of HI before the game finishes.

How much supply is positioned in the Home Islands?  This is all you really need your HI factories to produce.

Yes, I'm 99% certain about this myself Bbbf. Still, I'm playing the game as the war will last for a long long time to come.
03/46 isn't a end date that I care about. So Okha is still on the planning table; would be nice with a little offensive. Could bomb Red bases to
dust with our 1300 level/naval bombers escorted by Reppu's as well

It also has its charm to sneak out crude from underneath the enemy's nose
In a few days 2 tankers arrive with 30k crude from Tarakan, loaded at gun point at extreme risk.

Hm, have to count but there must be more than a million supplies in the Home Islands alone.
Running supply and resource convoys from China, can pick up quite a lot from these bases as they restock each time
I pick up a cargo.

I find it laughable that you are (almost) totally cut of from Oil and Resources from DEI - but HI points produced in India can magically appear in Home Islands for factory use

BUT this is the system we have got so no point complaining here

Yes, but on the same order than supplies being produced in Australia allowing B-17 and Corsair units to receive new aircraft, or in PzB case an air unit in India to upgrade to the Reppu.

But I agree that you should have to move "HI points".

Think it's called abstraction....and falls pretty far down on the list of things that have to be improved!-)

Enemy fleets move PAST the Bonins - much as expected.

Our HI reserves increased with 308 points today, that's our surplus production.
With only 5 destroyers and 15 subs being produced, I will be able to turn of naval shipyards soon.

The Nihon Kaigun

We now have 35 operational destroyers, 10 cruisers, 6 battleships, 30 subs as well as a carrier.
Some 100 patrol crafts are also being gathered to provide some defensive capabilities.

If we use them wisely backed up by our still powerful Air Force, we will be able to put up another good fight!

Ok, today I made a lot of preparations!

All flammable material in the path of the enemy fleets is being removed.
Leaving a few pickets while asw ac are replaced by search and patrol ac.

Our subs are ordered to keep more distance while 2 small RO class subs will try
to stay in the enemy's path. Some 8 high exp Emily patrol units have been put on
night naval attack together with a few crack Frances and Grace Daitai's. All got from 80-86 average exp.

2 large (240 AS) aviation regiments are being air lifted into strategic bases by our super long range Tina transports.
More CAP fighters are moved into Western part of Home Islands, Okinawas, Formosa and Philippines. I sincerely hope that
Andy doesn't overdo it and land in an isolated place even further away from his closes base - which is Saigon in the West
and Marcus in the East. Hate these Uber Deep Strikes

Kamikaze's units are put on alert on all the enemy's possible approaches.

Some LCU's are being airlifted into bases that could do with more defenses. Will save the major effort for when we can
determine the exact enemy target(s). Supply situation is pretty good on all Inner Perimeter bases and there are still
thousands of mines here as this area was prioritized.

Got a few questions for the strategist out there:

1. How should we meet the enemy onslaught with our AF?
*) Head on with all we got
*) LR CAP and strategic strikes
*) All out kamikaze attacks
*) Gradual depletion attacks before sending in the kitchen sink
*) How many of our first rate fighters should be sent against the enemy?

2. How should we meet the enemy onslaught with the Combined Fleet?
*) Slam hard straight into his flanks as soon as landings commence?
*) Wait until the enemy has shot its bolt and is vulnerable?
*) Use the carrier Taiho to disrupt enemy carrier TFs by forcing them to react and possibly loose her?
*) Place our carrier in the enemy's retreat path and cut down the cripples?

2b. How should I organize the battle fleet
*) All 6 battleships in one Fleet
*) 2 battleships Squadrons and 1 fast and agile cruiser Squadron
*) Mixed battleship and cruiser Squadrons

The Matsu class escorts will follow the battleships and carrier while the few remaining fleet destroyers
will accompany the heavy cruisers.

I foresee the following composition;

Taiho scouting/striking Group
CV Taiho
4 destroyers

1st Battle Fleet
BB Yamato
BB Mutsu
BB Ise
BB Hyuga
BB Fuso
1 CA
2 CL
7 destroyers

2nd Battle Squadron

BB Kirishima
4 CA
2 CL
8 destroyers

1st Destroyer Flotilla
5 destroyers

2nd Destroyer Flotilla
5 destroyers

3rd Destroyer Flotilla
5 destroyers

In addition around a dozen patrol boat formations will be formed around APD/PC/PG and MSW types.

nice pictures and movie!

I would advise, if this is possible, maximizing your air attacks! If you manage to launch several airstrikes on the same hex the enemy CAP will be weaken and 2nd or 3rd strike can inflict serious damage to the enemy ships!

With smaller strikes, you may achive some hits, but you loose more than you gain! (pilots doesn't matter, but costs for ac and cost for engine(s) are quite big). IMHO, you should fight only Mother type battles, where you will loose hundreds of ac but will achive better results and put Scot out of guard!

Don't send Repus on the escort if you don't plan to fight Mother battles... wait for him and put decoy fleets at the base hex, covered with hordes of ac!

Where will Andy strike? If he is really going for PI that will be one of your last chances to inflict him damage he can not sustain just like that - a perfect place for Mother battle!
Several AFs with Clark invunerable to naval bombardment will allow you launching muliply strikes and, if not stop, delay enemy advance!

BANZAI!

It's pretty much impossible to launch several strikes against one target before the enemy fleets gather up to unload
their cargo. This is the time he will be vulnerable.

For now we perform sniping attacks and I'm flying AS to all bases in Luzon. Andy will be bombing them all with his B-29s.
Yes, our goal must be to hurt the enemy navy as much as possible. I don't think it's possible to prevent him from invading and ultimately capturing Luzon and the Philippines. Simply too many bases and when he lands 5-6 divisions we will not be able to resist him for long.

What we got is one veritable fortress that will be gradually reinforced and from were the enemy can be bombed, strafed and decimated over time.

When the battle reaches its climax we will be able to deploy our Reppus in large numbers, I'm holding them back for now until enough ac become operational. Kamikaze Zekes are being sent out now, then we will assemble the rest of our kami fleet and Oscar escorts. The next move will be to use our 1100 army and navy bombers. Hoping to launch large strikes with 2-300 bombers at the time against less protected targets.

I've ordered the Combined Fleet to form up. Want to threaten the enemy flanks.

Andy told me that he got 20 divisions loaded up...must be the Philippines me thinks.
Maybe we should save our Reppus and create a CAP that is strong enough to repulse his fighter sweeps and B-29 attacks?
Can't see how it will be possible to deploy Reppus efficiently before we have 500 of them.

A 'test' with 50 in the Philippines could be interesting.

The combined Fleet has suffered a lot in the last 4 years

Did you put those TFs together in a hurry, because they could do with a small reshuffle to optimize your assets.
1. Swap the two slow DDs in the Kirishima TF with the Oboro from the Ise TF to get speed up to 6 (would have preferred to swap with the DDs Otori and Hato from Taiho TF but its not in the same hex).
2. Swap the CA Maya and CL Yahagi from Kirishima TF with the CA Takao and CL Sakawa from the Yamato TF - keeps the detection level down caused by Sys damage over 10

Just a friendly suggestion - I want (need) to see these fine ships make a difference at even this late stage in the game

Thanx for the advice Tallyho! You're right, I haven't deployed fleets into combat formations yet - they will meet at Naha
for final orders tomorrow. Will follow your advice and move damaged ships into separate TFs.

I fear that the fleet will be sacrificed for nothing if we send it in.
Despite having 3000 AP on Luzon, they're dispersed on many bases and I have to react to the enemy moves.
It will be impossible to prevent the fall of the Philippines - we can only delay and inflict causalties on the enemy.

In a few months we will have 1500 Reppu and Shinden interceptors and I'm thinking about keeping the Combined Fleet inside our Inner Defense Perimeter from Formosa - Okinawas - Kyusho - Bonins.

An enemy move against these bases has to be amphibious and then we will be able to deploy more and better aircraft against them.
So why vaporize our best air units when we can make better use of them!?

Our surface ships will only engage enemy escorts if we find their convoys - and if we manage to attack a carrier TF the carriers will move out of range. Tried all this before. A fleet in being is better than no fleet at all

Need input here! Does this reasoning make sense?

I suggest to not sacrifice the fleet yet. As you said already it is impossible to prevent the capture of Luzon. Later when you have enough advanced interceptors to protect your fleet it can be used in more efficient ways than only one way missions. Also I would keep the Reppus for homeland defence, now there are not sufficent numbers to make a significant difference in the battle for Luzon. But later when the Allies start to bomb Japan from the Philipines they can prove their worth.
May be there is later the opportunity to use the Taiho against returning cripples from the battle (of course with Reppus on board ).

to early for comfort. So I'm trying to find an opening to inflict hurt - but if I don't I'll be obliged to back off.

The landing and unloading phase is especially vulnerable for the enemy. Bombardment TFs will retreat towards their home base
or stay in the hex. Bas weather can prevent LRCAP and our surface units could have a real chance at achieving something.
Also thinking about the consequences of having 1000 B-29s and 1000 B-24s in the Philippines...2 size 9 and several size 6-7-8 air fields - all within P-38 and P-51 range of the Home Islands. That's not good at all, so we have to try to prevent this as long as possible. If we could get the Shinden in production next month I would be over joyed. With 400 in production and no advancements I'm getting impatient, but it is possible that we get 2 advancements when we move into June

Loading the Taiho with Reppus means that they all will sink with the carrier...which is the likely outcome if we stumble
accross an enemy carrier TF I know my luck....

I would like to test the new Reppus in combat - could be a fake wunder weapon. So I'll try to deploy a good number of them
together with other fighters in a defensive posture and bait in an Allied strike. Then we will see what they're good for.

Pretty ready for an offensive mission against Okha in northern Sakhalin. Our army there is ready and I've stockpiled supplies and
have plenty of aviation support. Could bomb the Russian airfields to dust from there. Need a good offensive to stiffen morale.

heres herbiesans thoughts for what it is worth

I think Andys invasion of the phillipines hands you victory

If it was me, I would APPEAR to fight for the place, and keep rebuilding the reppu units ect in the inner circle

Its going to take a few months to subdue the phillipines, another to rebuild his units, another to reload his units -and you will just be getting stronger at home

let him have em, just deploy enough stuff to keep his fleet and main effort tied to the area

This is classic ANDY attack -little preparation, no interdiction of bases in the area, with luck and skill you could divert him from the main prize, the HI at home for ages!
So he gets another B29 base closer -so what -the reppus will be ready by the time he gets it -and you will drive him crazy with frustration (patience is NOT his suit) and you will win this war!

BANZIA!
