Hello.

Slots 501, 503 & 504 are alotted to the Yamato class upgrades. Given that I would like to ditch the final upgrade (# 504), I tried to remove it, but it messed up the ensuing order, with serial numbers not longer matching the correct ship class/upgrade. Any ideas on how I can get around this?

Thx

Don't delete the entry...just zero out all the data in the entry...

Go to the upgrade before the last one (the one that points at the one you wish to ignore) - then set it to itself.
You may then safely delete the upgrade class.

Ok, did as suggested. By viewing the last upgrade entry for each class (which points to the same one) I sorta figured it out but was not going to delete the unwanted upgrades thereafter! I will do as you instruct Rodrigo :)

While on the subject, I have another query; I increased certain Jap carriers air capacity to take place with the last upgrade I scheduled. However, the air groups associated to each carrier have a different tally to the one I wish to arrive at. The "Max" setting could be the right way to go, but I would hate to see the number of planes stationed on board bloat to over the safe margin - 115% of listed capacity if I'm not mistaken- prior to the desired date. Any hints here?

Thx

Carrier air squadrons will resize in certain conditions. This is a big problem IMHO - but not as big as it used to be. They will no longer oversize the air group - you just get odd numbers not related to anything IRL. Also - in USN you gain and lose squadrons IF you use the stock/CHS names - but not if you don't.

I recommend players avoid the command base for any given area after the early game period. And I give them lots of carrier capable squadrons that will "resize" to the right size - to substitute if need be on the bigger ships - mostly on smaller carriers used for transport.

In general, stock and CHS have air group sizes too large for the game situation. We have no way to simulate deck parks - and using them means you lose your planes in a storm. Absent any way to do that, I limit carriers to hanger capacity - a different kettle of fish. It is at least a fair standard for all. In spite of some sqawks before the fact, no one playing RHS has ever said carrier capacity was too small: IRL carriers operated fewer planes than capacity often, particularly early in the war. And large plane loads cause operational problems we also cannot simulate: most officers believed Midways were actually too big - and could not be efficient if fully loaded. [They really were designed for post war requirements with fewer, bigger planes - and that worked out grandly. It was strategic nonsense to build them during the war - they could not complete in time to matter - and more Essex would have contributed to victory. But as long term investments - well they were operational for generations!]

Got it working, my freshman's scenario (based on stock 15) is almost complete! A nagging problem though; I created 10 ARs off the 090- coded one (Jap side). I did it by copy-pasting the sole exisiting AR onto empty slots taking care not to overstep the Jap-alotted range. Upon loading the scenario, sadly only the standard AR shows up.

I checked for any variable that may have interfered (like assigning random Cpts to each vessel), all to my satisfaction. Help appreciated.

Exinfernis,

It sounds like you did a copy of ship 0844-Akashi (ship class 090-Akashi) and pasted it 10 times? Which slots did you paste them to? Is the delay blank, if not what is it? What are the locations set to?

Indeed Tan. I copy-pasted -0884 (Akashi/090) 10 times on the following slots: 882,883 and from 991 to 998. Delay is as is the original (411206). Locations chosen were Maizuru, Shanghai & Tokyo. Of course I chose new names for all vessels.

The only thing I can think of, is if you left the delay and location blank the new AR's will not show up in the game until the second turn as reinforcements. Are they showing up in the ship reinfocements screen/list?

Edit from the editor manual (3.3.1 Ship General Attributes)
Important Note: If the delay is set to the start date of the scenario, the ship will appear at the end
of the first turn, not at the start of the game.

Nope, location/delay fields are filled. Checked reinforcements, they don't show up.

IRL one sister was contemplated for Akashi, and she never was funded. She was a unique capital asset that could not easily be duplicated. It is more than the ship - it is the machine tools and the specialists. An AR should cost Japan dearly in a logistical sense impossible for us to duplicate here.

But technically you can copy her. CHS has a fictional sister ship - created just because someone wanted her I guess - never mind the "H" in CHS. RHS has the same sister - but only in EOS - which permits alternate investments. The point is - copies do work.

Interesting facts. My focus here was to churn out several ARs to be available at the sound of the first bullet. The near absence of ARs put a dent on my previous and only try as Nippon. Well, if for some weird reason this particular ship cannot be replicated, I shall have AKs to hit the slipways.

Which editor are you using? The one that came with WitP? If so which version 1.0 or 1.6?

If you are using the stock WitP editor I recommend switching to War in the Pacific Editor X it allows you to do much more and also has validate tool that checks for errors.

I must admit I'm working with Ver. 1.0 :( I did not even know there was a 1.6 version out!) And thanks for the link, I am checking it out.

Which is fine - so long as you understand this is science fiction. Japan was in WWII a lot like PLA is today: it had a lot of special capabilities that were very "thin" and which would not stand up to the attrition of a medium or long war. When they said "we have to win early" they meant it! You are thinking like an American - not a Japanese. And the Japanese industry could not supply the machine tools at all - they had to be imported - which would not be possible during the war. Nor could it supply the specialists that IRL make an AR more than a hull with special cranes and tools - but something able to undertake just about any repair task. The US could contemplate such a thing - Japan could not. FYI.

So did the digners of WITP. Do you know you CAN convert a certain class to AR at will? At least you can in stock and CHS and every mod but RHS - which deliberately defeated the hard code (I think) - by not putting any AR class in the special slot.

For most purposes, use Editor X. The Matrix editors are dangerous - and induce certain errors.

Totally agree. And as you put it, it's an attempt based not on any semblance of historic reality, rather on a whim to see if a boosted Empire could stand up to the post-43 onslaught.

Btw, the URL you linked has all the nice info but not a download feature enabled? Unless it's not a freeware..

Addendum: Disregard above tidbit, I am sleepy.
