I had my invasion off Lae all set. 4 carriers TFs 3 CVEs guarding 14 APs. 2 surface TF are bombarding Lae. I am kicking a$$. For some reason my APs will not unload to assault Lae. I must have left the invasion TF to Do Not Unload I think. I go to change it to Unload. What do I find? I forgot to load the transports! I gues that will push back the invasion a few weeks

Blame the Truk harbour master!  I did something far worse in a PBEM.  I'd intended to have taken Manila by a certain date so I started loading up a BIG transport TF to ship engineers, AV units and HQ units into Manila to arrive at Manila once the city was taken.  Well, the timetable fell apart...BUT I forgot to cancel the convoy.  Cue about 20 AP's with a half dozen escorts sailing right under the Corregidor fortress guns with the expected results and much swearing on my part (and commiseration from my opponent!)

It was awfully nice of you to provide ships to evacuate the defending troops! Did any of them take you up on the offer?

Actually things turned out a bit more humorous and perhaps indeed the defenders would have taken me up on the offer. I had been planning this invasion since taking Bun in early Jan 43. Taking Buna was a hell off a battle. I was going to be prepared for the next one. I had 4 more troop TFs which were to follow. It took 2 weeks game time to get the APs of the planned first wave back to friendly port, loaded, and back to the coast of Lae. It is June 43 I have been bombing the hell out of Lae since Sept of 42. My troops finally land. What do I find? Some demoralized support troops, 100 damage to airfield, 100 damage to air support, and 90 damage to port. I could have taken Lae with a girl scout troop!

In other words, you had adequate pre-invasion preparation.

Naw... the port was still partly functional. Gotta have something for the SeaBees to do.
