No worries Vetamur! Just trying to tell that certain game mechanics, like the extremely bloody A2A routines combined
with the efficiency of Mustangs, Corsairs and T-bolts has to be compensated by an increased Jap production.

The actual limiting factor is the number of squadrons that can employ the newly produced fighters.
No use with producing 1000 Reppus pr month if I only can deploy a total of 500 of which half are re-organizing or training
at any given time. But I get your meaning! Been a bit sulking about how things work and doesn't work - in both camps - lately.
Trying to enjoy the game instead of getting annoyed!

Enemy carriers ran away from Bonins!-)
Sniping at convoys - from both sides.

Tomorrow will be 1st of June! 575 A6M5 factories will start their
conversion runs to upgrade to the A7M2. IF we are lucky the Shinden will be
advanced another month. Looking eagerly at the deployment date each day now.

Tomorrow will also be the last day before I go on an extended leave
Will be gone until the 28th of July - doubt I'll even check my mail in this time.
A break from cyberspace will be good.

Industry 3/43

I think me repairing all industry, oil and resource centres in India, Burma and China
paid of big time. Look at this industry screen from 3/43. 2078 HI reserves...today, 2 years 3 months
later it's 1036000! That gives an average increase of some 1230 HI each day for 828 days.

Have anyone else got a HI pool this big?
It's possible that the capture of India has a bigger effect on Japanese economy than I first thought.

not only is that a huge HI Pool but look at your Merchant Shipyard points

158k

Are they turned off now???? - you could have accumulated even more HI if turned off earlier

Ok, Paukspeer has a question for you...

I'm expecting that Palembang will be 'erased' from the Japan economy chart in my game against Andrew soon (in month or two, maybe three) due to B-29...

I'm already faced with loss of 600 resources (cut off at Malacca) and i can add 600 (or it is 700 oil and some resources there as well...

Let's say that i will have app 2000 oil (and resources) which is enough to run 12 K HI (as long as i have them). I have significant reserves of oil and resources (app 2 million) but sooner or latter my industry will suck it (if i continue to keep 15 K heavy industry runing)...

i lost 200 AK/APs so far in the game...(other losses are shown in post 1602) so i wonder if i should reduce merchand shipyard first - to the lets say 500 first (currently I runing app 750).... i don't think that i can spare HI in other areas - 168 K arm points but i'm still waiting for big reinforement wave in middle 44....

Lost a quite a lot DDs so i need navalshipyard points too....

any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

You should continue construction of TK - just in case Andy learns (or bothers?) to properly employ his subs.

Hi PzB . Keep up the good work . This and others late war game are big lessons for us which are ready to play full campaign .

Just two questions :

1. Do you send your transports on kami missions to attacked islands in pacific or you transporting something there ?
2. I can understand ground bombing with b29 from af5 but bombing your industry , ports and airfields will lead you in total disaster very soon if he put efort in that job . Can you tell me what HR you have with your oponent about b29 ?

Hi guys,

Thanx for the support and input!
Pauk and Milman - will come back and answer your questions later.
Just wrote down some numbers and added some thoughts;

I'm not quite certain that all this talk about extreme Jap production.
Peak Japanese aircraft production in real life was 2,572 units pr month in September 1944.

In my AAR game i produced 2710 unts pr month in the end of April 1945....
I _could_ have produed more if I wanted to grind my economy to a catastrophic stop.
Alas - I don't do this.

Some other numbers:

*) Jap ac losses amounts to 65000 ac by June 1945 vs 28850 Allied.
*) Japan had 9,000 aircraft and 5,000 kamikaze ready for attacks on expected Allied invasion fo the Home Islands in July 1945.
In my AAR there are some 7500 ac in total and only some 500 of these are kamikaze.

So...is there anything I've missed - or are these numbers not so horrible after all

Pauk-Speer,

Think the war is too long into 44 for Andy to have any chance strangling your industry.
He still hasn't cared about bombing the oil in Palembang in my game - nor in any other major centres
now bypassed and isolated.

Suggest you halt production of all ships that you no longer need - go in and halt them as soon as their
production runs have commenced. Think I scaled down munitions a bit early, so keep em running. You should be able
to concentrate production on 4 or 5 major fighter and bomber types. E.g Frank Army Fighters and George Navy fighters (until the Reppu/Shindens arrive) as well as Peggy/Frances bombers and Judy/Grace TBDs. Only the Myrt NF is any good and the Dinah III and Emily patrol planes.

Keep an eye on your HI reserves and see how much they increase each day!
My biggest challenge has been to figure out how much HI I need and how much I can run without oil from the DEI.

Milman,

I don't send my transports on kami missions - can afford to loose transports but not to waste troops.
Enemy LBA will sink any transports AND their cargo before they can unload enough troops to capture any wortwhile base.

Our Hour Rules for B-29s includes that Andy can only operate them from airfields size 5 and up.
Their minimum operating altitude is 5k feet I think.

Andy's B-29s can hurt me, but without LR escorts, they are easily routed by our CAP.
Since he's driving them recklessly hard, their morale is usually very poor - and after a few missions even a few
CAP fighters can turn the bombers around. It forces me to keep some 1000 fighters in the Home Islands at all times though.

Thx Rob, had a really good vacation

Tomorrow it's back to work - hopefully. Managed to pick up a sinus infection so I'm still a bit reduced!

Business as usual in the Pacific! Some succesful naval strikes were Andy sends unescorted TFs through my 'back yard'.
When we try to hit enemy carriers most attackers are shot down by even a motely gang of Hellcats.

Will withdraw our Air Armies and re-equipp with the Reppu and prepare for the enemy's next moves.
Near the Home Islands we should have some time as the main focus is on Luzon. In India the buildup continues after Andy's
announcement declaring that he has plans to return. Will not be able to defend all of India, but I will attempt to contest
a landing with heavy air units - our strongest asset in this late stage of the war!

Hi Fish,

Will do my best - but it's almost impossible to sink a US fleet carrier in late war.
Takes half a dozen torps at least...but I can always get another CVE for you

You back from China by now?

yes, kami results are horrible - that is why i'm not going to use them (except in very very urgent case).

I guess these groups are all kami units filled with new recruits (so you cant do anything else with them?)

I know, but kamis is the only weapon I have readily available.
It takes months to train new kamis to exp lvl 50...and even that is too low to achieve more than a few hits.
If I send out regular bombers non come back if they happen to attack an Uber CAP.
So we have to wait for more Reppus and Shindens, then we may stand a fighting chance against this plague spreading
around the Empire

But we have what the enemy has not; time and patience

Sory, but after two years of playing i think it might have point to ask, what big ships and when were lost? And how do the "big ship" fleets look right now? Cause it's a bit hard to go through all 141 pages of text... Made it to 4th page and noticed i spent 2 hours...

Fish, got you 2 CVE's this turn - sunk that is! A third took a kami

First, the Kalinin Bay finally foundered east of Marcus Island.
Then we struck 3 CVEs east of Luzon with kamis and conventional bombers.
A good day for the Empire in other words.

Welcome Tootenhamon!
In 1942 the Empire lost only 2 capital ships - the Hiryu and Soryu.
Next major ship losses occurred in 1944 as the KB was destroyed the first time by enemy LBA and cv's.
Can't remember details, but some 2-3 cv's and 2 cvl's were sunk I think. In another follow up battle later
in 1944 another 3-4 cv/cvls were sunk. The rest followed quickly suit as Allied supremacy grew.

Don't think a single battleship was lost until 1944?
2 of the Kongo class ships were sunk first by enemy carrier strikes.
Another 3-4 battleships, including the Musashi were then sunk in the late war battles. The Musashi was scuttled
near Iwo Jima after taking a bad pummeling from the air in early 45. The last to go was one of the older Ise or Yamashiro
class bb's. Can't really remember the details Suggest that you quickly look through everything that happened between
the fall of India and the time Andy took over the Allied side in late 1943.

There isn't a big ship fleet left for Japan at this time! If Andy had wanted he could have bombed all ports and ships at will.
There are a dozen operational destroyers, 2 cls, 1 ca and 1 battleship. Another 4 ca's and 4 bb's have medium to heavy damage
and are stuck in port. The only remaining carrier, Taiho, got 46 sys damage and requires 2-3 months in port.

I forgot about tank units using the 'follow' order - so we got 500 tanks in Clark Field now.
Think I've said what I think about this follow order before...

Well, I can scrape together 1200 AP for Clark, and Andy has to defeat this force with his 3000 AP
force. I will attempt to fly in enough reinforcements to prevent this. His other force is stuck around
Vigan and Lingayen, facing our 1200 AP there. Maybe, just maybe we can grind the enemy to a halt in Luzon?
If Andy hadn't split his force, we wouldn't have had this chance.

yes, kami results are horrible - that is why i'm not going to use them (except in very very urgent case).

Speaking as someone else who is in 1945... Kamis aren't all that effective, especially if they are low experience. If you actually looked at the points you lose versus the naval points you sink, it might be a losing proposition to use them.

BUT

Almost none of your forces are effective in doing anything offensive. As PzB has mentioned numerous times, the Allied UberCap keeps any conventional strike from landing. And, moreover, your strike forces tend to head for the UberCap like moths to a flame. Even sometimes when better targets are available. Your surface navy is highly vulnerable. You're not likely to be launching a ground offensive. So, if you actually want to do something other than clicking "add plane" buttons on shattered air units, your options are pretty limited. Kamis and subs are your two best bets to actually *do something*, even if it's strategically insignificant. Neither is going to produce great results (Allied ASW is pretty darn good by this stage of the game) but at least you've got some "cardboard counters" you can push around the map.

Hey. If You're going to defend Clark Field, than You must have something very VERY importand there. If it was me, i would send everything from Clark to Manila. With a sole purpose. Manila gives 4x multipier (i remember 4, some sources said that it was even 6x!) to the defence. If you have 1200 defence points, in Manila you have 4800. If it's protected with guns, and 200-300 fighters with decent crews, and if you have level 9 fortifications there, plus enough supplies, you can stand till the end of the war in december 1946 :) And if allies want to bomb Manila from Clark, your pilots will gain experience if used properly :) My best to You, Emperor and Empire of Japan.

That is correct... what restricts me from using kamis aren't "more points you lose than sink", but wasted ac, engines (heavy industry points). The more you lose the more you need to produce it. But older ac such as Oscar II are perfectly kamis, though...

Although expensive, our air strikes claim hundreds of victims! Only today several enemy warships,
transports and smaller vessels were reported sunk between Luzon and Marcus Island. With little ability
to repair damage every single hit forces Andy to withdraw his ships all the way to Pearl!

My plan is to tie down large number of enemy troops on Luzon and slowly wear them down.
Pretty sure these troops make up the nucleus of any future Allied offensive force.

Correct, don't want to give up Clark Field! If I can manage 2000 AP there + 9 forts Andy will have to
struggle immensly to get anywhere. Up to 750 AP today as the major part of a full division evacuated from
Mindanao marched in. We have considerable troop units in the surrounding islands and slowly, slowly these are
moved into Luzon while reserves are filling into Formosa and Okinawas.

My hope is that we will be able to inflict more damage as soon as 1500 Reppus and Shindens are on hand!
A6M5 Zekes are cheap and efficient kamis, no more useful to me than Oscars by 44. I'm certainly not counting points,
the only thing that matters is to cause enemy casualties and force favorable peace terms

As Winston said:

Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.

The Reppu is indeed a great equalizer.  In a game against the AI, wherein I had never conserved my pilots or my planes, I was able to establish air supremacy at will once hundreds of Reppus per turn were available.  Even with
35 exp pilots, the enemy stocks of P-38, B-25, and B-24 were soon exhausted.  Quantity matters.
