I was looking at the territorials (CW and French mainly) and thought that perhaps one way of doing a writeup for each of them and keep it interesting would be to give a short background on the country: people/population, military prowess, the year colonized, etc.. A flavor of the country might be of interest, especially if the territorial unit did nothing during the war other than stay at home and guard the border.

A WWII flavor of the country of the Territorial, yes, good idea. The historian I also am loves that !

Hey, I just remembered that they also did "Hold the line". That's appropriate

p.s. I'm not actually a Toto fan. I just have an encyclopaedic knowledge of 70s, 80s and 90s pop from being bombarded with the stuff.

Don´t worry about those, they are quite different from the other units and I want them to be alike in format for all countries so it is better they are done by one person. Perhaps one of the good readers will volonteer for the job!

Actually, the writeups for the US artillery are all done except for the 128 mm at the bottom of this screen shot.

I got inspired and did some checking up on all the colonies of France of the time. There is a lot of good information to be found. I will as you suggested set up a few standardized facts about the country, depending on what I can find (historical population has been trickier to find than i thought but i will persevere).

Added to this will be short anecdots about operations the colony took part in. Some, like Niger and Gabon, I have found nothing on yet but I will hopefully. There are plenty of interesting stuff and I think it will rather quickly done.

I am calling dibs on all french colonies!

EDIT: I got all the historical populations! Now for the even trickier part of finding out the military strength of each colony. This I imagine will be hard.

Found a database with all today existing countries population over time. This mean translating some of the colonies names to todays standard, for instance French Somalialand is Djibouti and French Sudan is Mali and so on. I think it comes close enough either way (I added todays population for comparison as well). I also found all dates on colonisation.

Furthermore I have found interesting details and military tidbits on most colonies but not all.

I will add which was the capital of 1940 in each country, which languages were spoken and which religions were predominant. Any other category you can think of would be welcome.

I'm interested in having that database, for interest in History & Geography, is it possible to send it to me ?

I wonder if religions are a good idea. Religions are totaly out of WiF FE, this is maybe better like this.

Rather add :
- Military details if any, military feats, or
- Informations about mining / oil resources and about the level of industrialisation, railroad network
- Demographics, literacy level
- Informations main physical features (deserts, mountains, lakes, forests, rivers...)
- and any other tibdit that can make this country colorful and interesting...

When I get home tomorrow I will try and find the database again. It was quite extensive.

Thanks for tips. Religion on this level is merely flavour but i will consider your thoughts on it.

The rest are great, thanks for helping out. I will be finished with them all tomorrow I think, I have most of the information I need.

I agree with Patrice, let's leave the details concerning religion out of the writeups. We have nothing about religion anywhere else in WIF, even though it obviously played a major role everywhere.

For the Tunisian one I could not help myself but to include a reference to the "Devils Hot Tub" (Shatt Al Jarid), the ones of you who has been there understand.

IMO you should also put the modern name of the country somewhere, as you put the modern population.

In the natural resources, you should only state the really important ones. By reading the natural resources of French Somaliland, I can believe that this is a really rich country, you bet, Oil, gold, etc...

I was actually thinking about it, perhaps you are right. I will add the country today when the country has changed. Or perhaps remove the population of today?

For the natural resources it is hard to find which ones were the most important ones. If you have a good source for that by all means share it!

Djibouti is a really poor country but they could still be an important exporter gold and oil and what not. Natural resources, unfortunatly, does not make a country rich in the world today. At least not the general population.

I've spelled it "Chott el Djerid" on the map, we should label it the same. This is this name that is used in the English version of Wikipedia. I can't find yours "Shatt Al Jarid".
I hope we talk about the same thing by the way .
Is this what you name "Shatt Al Jarid" the 3 marshes hexes west of Gabes ?

Capitan, if you are a playtester, when the next version will be released, you will be able to see all the names I added on the map, and you will be able to either put the same name as me, or point me the names that are incorrect.
