My call sign is a reference to my lack of ability to deal with Panthers (late war German MBT in WW2) in just about any wargame I play.  Doesn't matter if they are mine or the other guys.  Mine die immediately, and I can't kill the other guy's Panthers to save my (or my digital soldier's) life.  It was sort of a challenge to try and do better.  Hasn't worked too well, but the name stuck.

Maybe I like WitP so much because there are no Panthers in it.  Hmm

The first part is just my nickname which I have had since I was a wee small toddler.

The second part is because somehow my login ID got messed up and I got no f***ing help from Matrix support to try and fix it so I had to start another login ID.

I used to play in an "old-timer" hockey league (translation, anyone over 18). Our team was called the Icedawgs. We used canine-related names/terms that fit something about us and put those names on the backs of our jerseys (where last names normally go). I was by far the smallest guy in the league (140 lbs or so), so I was aptly named "Runt".

Well, mine is because that became my nickname at work I suppose. I'm only a 5'7" 160lbr. But I'm on the ...muscleular side(?) and I ride a Pan-Head Harley to work, so the guys at work just started calling me "Big-B". Really,... I never registered on a forum before, so I was at a loss to come up with a name...everyone seemed not to use their real name, so I just used what the guys called me.
If I could do it all over i'd just go with BrianW or 'B'...you know...my name.

Hi all,

My nickname is self given and it dates around 15 years ago when I first started on-line communication and gaming - especially on-line flying (I couldn't find anything more suiting so I choose something I always related to).

BTW, the name itself is _VERY_ significant to me because I really was born on that day when they walked on the moon...

Seems a bit pedestrian, its my name...... I've never quite sussed out why almost nobody uses their own name, guess there's a powerful reason for it involving anonymity and I just haven't realised the need to hide who I am.....

Like another poster my name evolved after the total inability of this forum to sort out my previous name - as it says in my sig!

Roger

My Callsign minus the "The"

OK. So how did you get the call sign? Most of the call signs I've run into were 1)a play on one's name 2) something really dumb that you did (most common) 3) something that describes you or something you did/do (dumb or other wise).

Numero uno. I'd say name's are the most common too.

1275psi - is of course the pressure of the Foster wheeler boilers I used to steam in the RAN, on the DDGs Perth, Hobart and Brisbane.
One boiler in particular (1A) on the Perth was a bitch -she taught me patience, and persistance, and that swearing doesnt help - things very useful for WITP.

2A just decided to blow up

Still nothing like the power of opening the throttles when you have 4 on line.
And 1275 psi is easy to remember!

Try being on the fantail when y'all crank those babies up... it'd vibrate a clam out of its shell. So you steamed on an Adams class too... the 1200 psi, at least that's what our snipes called them, were a fairly exotic plant at the time of their introduction. When they ran, they ran good. But there were times when they weren't good. I happened to be down in the forward boiler room looking for the Chief Engineer when they ran a full crash back. Now, that was interesting..They don't pay those guys enough!

Ok my username originates from my Uni days 10 years ago.

Basically it was during ther first couple of months of Uni and me and a group of lads in my hall were walking into town that night. We'd been drinking for quite a few hours....I was day dreaming and someonme said a joke.....1 minute later "I said oh yeah that reminds me of.....".....my hall mate said "nice one Speedy". Stuck ever since. The cool thing was almost everyone in Uni knew me as Speedy from that day forth and no one knew why but people guessed a multitude of different reasons

Even to this day a few old uni mates only know me as Speedy and not my real name

I had the same thought. I still read his new ones soon after they come out, but I think the books he did around the time he wrote Moving Pictures were among his best.

Interesting thread.

My login is based on my last name and the habit I have of playing the axis side in wargames. I also tend to play as the Confederacy for ACW... must just be that I like to play losers. :)

Anyway - I'm of German heritage, and my name is the old German spelling of Feuer which means fire. So instead of Lightning War (Blitzkrieg), I figure Fire War would work, but with my last name instead of the modern Feuer.
