Hello All,
I am working on a Bn level scenario covering a Confederate invasion of Pennsylvania in 1914. It's based on Turtledove's American Front series & Tane Woodley's AF1914 scenario.

What I would like to know is, are my settings & the rational behind them reasonable for a scenario set in 1914, or am I way off the mark & if so, what changes would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

The force supply stockpile starts at 100% (bullets & beans at their source, point A). My rational is that it's day one of the war & The USA & CSA have sufficient bullets & beans in their inventory.
Between the "peacetime ammo stocks are exhausted" events & losing industrial units, the USA's force supply stockpile can drop to 55% & the CSA's force supply stockpile can drop to 71% (worst-case scenarios).

The unit supply level (bullets & beans at in the soldier's hands, point B) starts at 100% because, again it's day one of the war & their wagons & packpacks should be full.

I think that where things should go off the rails is in the formation supply distribution efficiency settings (getting bullets & beans from point A to point B). The USA's formations are set to 60 & the CSA's formation are set to 55.

Does any of this seem reasonable?

This is fairly standard practice. You can set it lower as units are rarely completely ready, but most designers start with this condition for the beginning of a campaign.

Force supply and formation supply levels are inextricably intertwined; you multiply one by the other to get your result. So in your case, in ideal conditions a Federal unit will recover 60% of supply out of 100 in one turn. In most scenarios, the equivalent figure wouldn't be more than 20-25.

This doesn't mean your approach is necessarily wrong, but you should experiment with this a bit and see what works best. First, set formation supply levels for a force to scale to the relative ability of those formations to resupply themselves. I think in this case it is easiest to set the best formation to 100% and scale from there. Then set force supply to get the desired maximum level of supply recovery in a turn.

THEN there's supply radius- which is just as important. This would depend rather heavily on your map, but you'll probably want it to be quite low for 1914, before the spread of motorised transport.

Thanks for the reply. The scale is 2.5 Km per hex with 1 day turns. The supply radius is set to 3. I'll fiddle with the other settings to get to the 20-25% area.
