problem is you have to identify those wanting to start a war of words from those who are ignorant (Chinese Lancasters) from those who honestly believe something and their use of English (being their 2nd/3rd language) makes them appear rude/ignorant.

I would also support the more frequent use of the sarcasm smiley     Just isnt big enough

We need to have Swift find us one .He's definately the smiley king!

Well , I for one am certainly willing to forgo calling MCS folks "morons". But you will have to forgive me for assuming that's the way they wanted to be identified. They call themselves that , they post themselfs that , and they have the I'm a Steakhouse M----- link. Surely I can be forgiven for thinking that this was a badge of honor and preference , like an infantryman calling himself a "grunt" , a submariner being a "bubblehead" or in my community , avation folks being called "airdales". Obviously I'm mistaken and apologies. But have any MCS folks ever objected , or told us their preferences? I've only subscribed to this forum since May of this year , and I don't recall see anything like that.

And I don't honestly think the people on this forum think that they are better than MCS, just different. At MCS , the discourse gets rough , course and and pretty wild. And from everything I've read over there , that's just the way they like it. Some of us , and I definatley mean me , don't care for that rough and tumble. So what? I know Doggie has a few veiws of that (he's expressed his opion pretty clearly at MCS) and that's his right. It's his rules , and when over there , you play by them. That's more than fair. And the folks here want something a little more structured and less wild. That's also fair.

So it strikes me , that the real problem is that MCS and the Matrix forumites don't talk , except to slag each other. That won't do. And any little &*()#$$% who wants to stir up trouble here or there has only to troll in the forum of one or the other to create a thread war. The way I see it , the only people who can do anything about it , are the "dual citizens" like yourselves who talk to and understand each side. Your comments here are a great start! I encourage you to jump in when someone crosses the line. In fact , I encourage everyone to jump in , on both sides , fairly.

If the search function works you'll be able to find the first instance of "Steakhouse Moron" and see that it wasn't a term of endearment. The gist of it was that ALL the folks there deseved the title and that they didn't belong here at Matrix. It has since been "taken back" by some of the folks there.

As for my being a dual citizen, technically I no longer am. However, when the Steakhouse opened, virtually all its members came from the Matrix forums. I'd imagine that it's still around 90% dual citizens.

There's plenty of disagreement at The Steakhouse but one surefire way to unite them is when they feel that they are ALL under attack from another board.

Hort's original post and his stirling work with the pineapple mouth in the original thread seem to have worked very well at defusing the original animosity. AND he has Natalie on his side...

Now for something really offensive. I take offense with a certain wood troll in this community and this is what i think off his idol. You know who you are. Picture is meant as an insult to his wood based idol worship.

It seems everyone is looking for a good "sarcasm smiley" - various ones used don't really convey sarcasm very well. i've always thought the tongue-sticking out denoted mild teasing.

Some forums use the "eye-rolling" smiley, some use an "eye-rolling" smiley with a stupid smile. No one is very happy with these, it seems... i've found this one that seems to convey the message pretty well, though:

Anyone know the history behind this picture?

The plane crashing in the center is from a well-known photo taken over Leyte by Army Combat Correspondent Lt. Crayola.

However the terrain is much too flat. Clearly this has been photoshopped...

tsk, tsk... this is clearly a plane crashing into the swells in the Yellow Sea!

EDIT - note the islands on the horizon, while the plane in the foreground has not yet completely sunk.

It's a small point - but outside of the Airborne, the Infantry (and Marines) wore leggings for the entire war.
The exceptions were troops in Italy in 1944, and after D-Day - double-buckle boots were being seen on troops in Europe in increasing numbers (but always the exception rather than the rule). Sateens' were seen in Northern Europe as well by late '44-'45.

The key tip-off to the time and place of this photo is the fact that the soldier is wearing no camo net on his helmet, his boots are 'rough-outs' with leggings (North Africa saw troops wearing polished boots with leggings), and he's wearing H.B.T.s'. That is the combo that screams Sicily.

Sure is alot of Steakhouse bashing going on here. I have been a member of the Steakhouse since it was created years ago. I do not post over there alot any more, but still read it. Just about everyone there pooled money and sent me care packages while I was in Iraq. That speaks volumns to me about the character over there.

They spent money on someone they have only known over the net. Just about everyone there WAS and still is  Matrix member. We just got tired of the heavy and sometimes one sided moderation in the long gone Art of War forum here. At least there at the Steakhouse, you can voice an opinion "within the proper forum" and not worry about getting stomped by a mod. Unless you go way over the top.

But yes, one sure fire way to unite them all is to "attack" the Steakhouse as a whole. I do not agree with all the views there and some of the "fights" there are very petty, but over all, they are some very good people. So how about we quit with the Steakhouse jabs.

What exactly are you looking for from us Ike? I mean besides conflict. Are you legitimately looking for answers? Please tell me , before I waste anytime researching this one.

While I have no real proof..., I'm beginning to suspect that IKE is a "Steakhouse Moron". He began with an innocent enough inquiry, but has since turned the post into an endless stream of antagonism and name-calling. That sounds very much like the typical "moron" effort.

Way to jump into some needless ad hominem...

Here's a little history, not complete btw...

Most if not all of the steakhouse guys were regular posters at matrix. They used to have a forum here called the art of war, it was an off topic forum in which just about anything was discussed. It was somewhat loosely moderated.

In time, especially after 9/11, the fur started to fly between some yurupeans (name taken from the joke map of how america views the world -- google it if you want) and americans in which it was none to subtly stated that the US got what it deserved. Understandably, that caused some bad blood and things haven't been quite the same since.

At some point, I think it's been a couple years now, matrix decided to close art of war altogether and that's when the steakhouse was born. Doggie and chickensalad had a forum and decided to combine theirs with madcow and the new forum was created.

Now as to why they come over here is because most of them are still gamers and play matrix games. They still frequent these forums, but their political debate happens over there. Matrix used to have a link to madcow's so that folks who wanted to engage in political stuff could do so over there.

Plenty of stuff has been left out, but hopefully this explains some of the history.

Sorry, but I am going to have to agree 100% with this

While I have no real proof..., I'm beginning to suspect that IKE is a "Steakhouse Moron". He began with an innocent enough inquiry, but has since turned the post into an endless stream of antagonism and name-calling. That sounds very much like the typical "moron" effort.

OK , thanks. That leads to a new question...Instead of "what does he want?" , the question now becomes "what do they want?" What exactly are "they" looking for? I know the moderator of that esteemed organization seems to be on a recruiting drive. But the rest? Damned if I can figure it out!

I'm glad to hear it. But the question was rhetorical. I'm not really paranoid. But I am curious why people bait other people on this site. And no one answers me. I've offered to talk to people one on one ,via e-mail , hell , I'll give them my phone number or meet them over a beer. No one answers. And that included the folks at the steakhouse. Doggie kindly invited me to join , but that still doesn't answer WHY? Surely there are more and easire ways to succeed at this. And if you want a good old fashion pissing contest , you guys at the steak house are both good at it and relish a good fight. You'd be better at it , with less restraints. So what is it that makes baiting the people on this forum such an attraction? That's the kind of question that makes consider chucking history as a career and taking up psychology. What's the real scoop Mac? You swim in both ponds--e-mail me the answer , would you?

Aw Gee, Steve, did we start yet another fight? Kindly show us the post in this thread that provoked your poor innocent trolls into engaging in yet another MCS bashing spree?

So you believe the "fruit of Tojo's Loins," the guy who thinks the Japanese were the poor innocent victims of American Imperialism, is actually me undercover? Are you on drugs, Steve?

This is yet another example of you not knowing where your problem is, and who is responsible for it. It's blatently obvious to me that this latest round of MCS bashing is entirely unprovoked, as none of our "morons" said so much as A goddamned word while all this "polite conversation" was going on. How about you get your head out of your ass and figure out who's starting all these "pissing contests" you claim to abhor, yet are always participating in?

I'm sick to death of hearing you whine and complain about how our guys are ruining the "decorum" here when it's YOU and your pals that are just won't quit slinging all the "monkey poo" you claim you're too sophisticated to engage in.

So how about you set the example and STFU? If you got a problem with me or my "morons" you know perfectly well where you can bring it. How about you and your trolls stop hiding behind Joe's skirts and squealing like little girls when ever somebody interupts your libel by responding to it?

I"ve told y'all a dozen times; don't start nothing and there won't be nothing. It's just that simple.

Well glad to see the doglette has recovered from his last lashing ... but he never answered my question ... are the internet bullies the whimps of the real world??
