Looks like the lifting body dreams they published in Popular Mechanics and Popular Science in the 50's & 60's We are supposed to be using them now according to the science of those days. Glad to seem them speculating about that stuff again

And I'm sure there was something in reserve when the Blackbird set her record

Well I think this is a little more legitimate now and seems feasable. I am not sure what the story is with Popular Mechanics but I want to believe all of thier stories.
