Daily PP cost until withdrawl, I don't like it

1.How much does daily PP for a ship cost?

Varies by ship type. I assure you, you can not afford it.

quote:

2.What happens to a ship on mission TF, it's withdrawl date comes up?

Nothing. You just start getting charged PPs

quote:

3. Am I going to start getiing charged daily PP's until the ship returns to port?
This will make any ship near a withdrawl date usless, or limit where you can send it, who wants to waste PP's!

Yup. You start getting warnings 30 days before withdrawal and a "who's due soon" screen is available.

quote:

4. What happens to damaged ships, zero speed far from home port when it's withdrawl date comes up?

The Atlantic Fleet does not care. They just want that ship back and you had better get it back.

quote:

5. A ship far from home, will I be charged PP's until it get back to it's home port?

You will be charged PPs until it is withdrawn. Home port is not an issue.

quote:

6. Will ship be allowed to be withdrawn from any port?

NO - you must move them off map.

Basically, Churchill or King or someone is banging on the desk. Torch, or Overload, or something is coming up and they want that ship!

I like this idea. There is no way that Lord Mountbatten would be able to tell the Admiralty to stick their 'request' for HMS Formidable where the sun shineth not .
Is the PP penalty a flat rate, or does it vary between ship types? Whilst keeping hold of a CV is a massive problem, the Admiralty might not be quite as angry about me delaying a DD for a week or so...

Ron,

Adding crews would be quite a big change, but simply adjusting the percentage of VP's saved by scuttling might be a small change and therefore (potentially) doable for AE.

As far as the damage model goes I thought the problem was that the flooding and fire damage was spread out over too long - days instead of hours - thereby giving too much chance to get the ship in port and unrealistically save it. True for both sides, but especially the Allies.

WHERE can the ships be "withdrawn" from?   With the new and additional "off-map ports", can the Brits still withdraw ships from Karachi..., or do they have to sail to Aden or somewhere?

Regarding Ship Damage and respective Damage Control. Anything being done with the changes to ship damage to alleviate the, what in my opinion anyway, is the rather severe progressive flooding model which all nationalities are impacted? The Japanese suffer especially from the perceived inability to stem flooding, yet I suspect this was based on such rare occurances as Shinano's sinking, the result of a rare set of conditions at the very least. Japan's only failing was an early war inability to combat shipboard fires, principally avgas fueled fires on its CVs.

Reducing the effects of flood damage might assist the poor AI as it fails to have any provision to deal with damaged ships...ie, send them to the nearest port, not to their "home port", which could be hundreds or thousands of miles away. Correcting this code issue would help too.

The Damage control routines have been restructured. Most of those tired old bugs should be gone and replaced with interesting new ones.

Currently off map only. Item is still open.

By ship type. Delaying a DD for a week would cost about the same as delaying a CV for a day.

What about Hospital ships reducing, for example, malaria effect in base when docked/disbanded and that cost some PPs to both sides if sunk ?

Nice idea, but is there any historical basis for this? Did any hospital ships spend time on the front lines?

How do you calibrate this?

Wasn't there an Allied Hospital Ship searchlighted by Japanese cruisers in Milne Bay sometime in 1942. Fortunately they held their fire.

I don't know. I never looked up Hospital Ship war records. Did they stay in front line areas or were they making pickups and returning to a rear area?

IIRC, it was a pickup and they got out of there fast after their unexpected encounter....

Here we go, found the reference. The Australian Hospital Ship Manunda entered Milne Bay on the night of 6-7 September (1942) to embark casualties. The ship was illuminated by Japanese warships but was not fired upon.

Australia's Merchant Navy: Manunda in New Guinea

Looks like this was a regular run. Have a look at the link. It's well written and a good read.....

PTs in AE? - 1/10/2008 1:10:29 PM

Will the ability to operate PT boat TFs in "deep ocean" be changed in AE?

Will the ability to group up to 25 PTs in the same TF be changed in AE?

Is there really a Synch problem associated with strafing of PT TFs in the current version of WitP, and if there is, will it be addressed in AE?

Thanks -

I did ask this before but I think it got missed, or i missed the reply.

Has the resizing of the RN carrier airgroups been altered, could the airgoups just be set as default to the increased fighter compliment when they arrive, as they tend to resize within a month anyway. This allow would modding of the airgroups by people wanting to represent the increase in size on RN carrier compliments during the war.

Or will the airgroups re-size like the USN groups?

Regards

Neil.

Will you have a way to stand down multiple number of ships to expedite repairs in stead of standing down each ship individually?

Is there any place where we can view allies' naval OOB?

Why wouldn't they? My interest is in determining whether or not the AGCs that got left out of WitP will make it into the AE.

Catch 22 I suppose. If it's not finished it's not ready for general comment. If it's finished there's no room for general comment. Bueno.

Hey I read and digested as much of this as I could, so sorry if a few or all of these questions were answered.

1) Will a ship have a kill list? I'd love to see who sunk what/when (assuming intelligence knows).
2) Any changes to TF management?

Is there a change list hanging around anyplace without having to pour through the small book of posts you guys have made? :) :)

1) No. Come'on, who ya kiddin, and does it matter ??
2) Yes, major improvements, and major changes. I think you are gonna have to wait for the manual, because the changes are substantial.
3) No change list hanging around, you just gotta read, review the posts, and think about what was said

Very sorry, but we can't give looks under the hood. All we can do is tell ya is to 'buckle up,' cause the horsepower increase is major.

Will damage control capability be more service specific? Ie..right now Allied damage control applies to every ship type in every service, including civilian merchants. Should really just apply to warships I'd say. Same goes for Japan, perhaps a different capability for warships and merchants.

You can probably handle this adequately by taking into account crew and captain ratings.
