Terminus -> Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 3:38:14 PM)

This is for all general questions regarding naval matters in the Admirals Edition. Don't ask very specific questions, ask for screenshots, specific unit data, etc. It's not that we don't want you to have them, but we don't want to promise something specific now that's not going to be in the final product.

wild_Willie2 -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 3:44:06 PM)

Hi there.
First: The Ad-on looks great.

How will the AI cope with the INCREASED difficulty of this new version, espesially with the convoy routing routine?

Terminus -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 3:44:44 PM)

Hopefully it'll cope quite well... (read: it's being worked on very heavily).

Nomad -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 3:49:48 PM)

I'm not sure where to ask this T, but here it is. Will there be additional, larger, display formats? 1024x768 is either very small( windowed ) or very grainy on my 24" widescreen. [:)]

Terminus -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 3:51:12 PM)

There's going to be two or three other threads, including one for the general questions. The resolution stuff is kinda off my plate as Naval Team boss...

EnricoR -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:04:53 PM)

I have seen a new mission type: midget sub carrier. Will there be other new mission types?
In the screenshot of Hiroshima/Kure are two new create buttons, one for midget subs and one for MGB´s. What is a MGB?

Thanks.

Nomad -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:11:03 PM)

MGB = Midget Gun Boat?

wild_Willie2 -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:11:56 PM)

MGB is motor GUNBOAT....

Used by british to counter PT's (PT sized ship with heavy gun armament but NO torps).....

wild_Willie2 -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:12:46 PM)

By the way, how about Japanese PT's ??

Do we get more than 5 during the entire war???

Yeah, there's going to be some new mission types, as well as modifications to existing ones. MGB = Motor Gun Boat.

Hortlund -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:15:52 PM)

What about the surface combat engine?

Im refering to the current issues, amongst others, BBs not using their main armament, the propensity of some units to only fire when fired upon. Not to mention the old "my 4 cruisers stumbled upon a covoy of 15 Aks and only damaged two before the end of the engagement"

33Vyper -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:16:39 PM)

I saw that there will be changes to the supply and fuel system.

I noted refining capacity......question will there be two types of fuel? One for the battlewagons and one for the aircraft? It has always got me that all you need is "fuel 10,000" and you can fly 500 planes for quite some time, however in reality specialized avaiation fuel became a huge problem later in the war.

drw61 -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:16:54 PM)

On the screenshot with the BB Tennessee, it shows flood and engine damage with (22 Major) behind it.
Is there going to be a difference in how fast repair happens between regular damage and major damage? And can we control which ships get priority for repairs?

We're looking into that; it might not make it for first release, but there are patches planned.

Just for the record, aircraft don't use Fuel in the stock game, but supplies. The refining capacity is part of the new industry model.

Major damage can only be repaired in shipyards, whilst minor stuff can be fixed by any of the three other types of repair. And yes, the player can prioritize which ships go first.

wild_Willie2 -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:20:41 PM)

How about the surface combat routine where 2 ships return effective fire on 10 ENEMY ships.. (1 ship firing on ALL ships in range)

See my answer to Panzerjaeger's question.

Chad Harrison -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:23:43 PM)

How are ship repairs handled at major ports (Pearl, SF, ect) now?

For instance, in my PBEM game right now, at Pearl I have 10 BB's that have light damage (under 20) but about 30 subs with heavy damage. As far as I can tell, the subs are stealing all the repair from the BB's.

Can we give ships priority to be repaired first? Can we apply repair points directly and manually to ships?

Thanks

Edit - I just saw you post you put above while I was typing.

Send some of your ships to the huge West Coast ports for repair.

patrickl -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:33:43 PM)

Don't know whether this is appropriate in this thread but here goes : with regard to leaders, will we be able to see aggressive rating along with other attributes in a table form instead of the present situation of clicking thru the individuals?[&:]

Thats what I normally do when things get too crowded and am about to do that in my PBEM game.

My question though is exactly how the expansion will allow you to prioritize repairs?

Pretty simple, actually. Let's say you have five damaged ships at Pearl Harbor. You put them into the repair queue, and then you'll have them set up one beneath the other, like in a normal ship list. Then you just click on the one you want to move to the top, and hey presto! You can arrange them just as you want, and choose any of the four different repair types, provided the port in question supports them all.

That's still being worked on.

Sweet. Thanks Term.

Panther Bait -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:53:08 PM)

I noticed in one of the screenshots that there was a link something like "Show all ships of the US Pacific Fleet".  Will ships/TFs be assigned to commands (SWPAC, SOPAC, etc.)  now like LCU/Bases/Etc.?  Or was this more of a nationality thing (US Fleet, RN, IJN)?

Yep, all ships are assigned to HQ's now.

Hortlund -> RE: Admirals Edition Naval Thread (12/7/2007 4:55:24 PM)

Naval bombardment? We all know, and hate, the fact that you can run BBs back and forth between bases and targets and generally blast an enemy base into oblivion with your BBs.

1) Will there be some sort of limit on where a BB (or indeed any capital ship) can resupply ammunition? It is rather ludicrous to think that a tiny island in the middle of the pacific should happen to have thousands of 16 inch shells just laying there waiting for a BB to come by and reload. Can we make "capital ship ammo" something scarce, like torpedos now perhaps...that can only be reloaded in the presence of an AE, or at a level 6 port?

2) Will shore bombardment be changed?
