I've seen something similar, as well. Example: Bottom of the 9th, 10th, 11th, or whatever. Runners on the corners or bases loaded, one out. Batter hits an infield grounder and the defense throws out the batter/runner at first base. Winning run scores. I have also seen it done the "right" way, where the throw home is late and the winning run scores. I only recall seeing it happen this way once, though. Another thing I've noticed is: I'm managing and have a runner on second with good speed (even a pinch runner with great speed). WAY too often, the runner is automatically held at third on a single to the outfield with two outs. Unless the runner falls down along the way, he should ALMOST ALWAYS have at least the option of going home. Along these same lines, you can predict that any runner with SP of 35 or less will ALWAYS automatically stop at third in a similar situation. I don't have my game at hand. There may be something in the Manager Tendencies that addresses this. If not, maybe there should be. Based on that last thought, a situation like Sid Bream scoring from second on a single to the outfield cannot happen. The manager would never even have the option of sending him home. In a way, though, I can accept that. As a manager, you don't have direct control of what a runner or third base coach does in the heat of the moment. I just feel that there needs to be at least the occasional chance of someone like Bream scoring (or getting thrown out) on a two-out single to the outfield.
