Yeah my auto update wants to install IE 7 all the time. lol I won't let it though, why move to something that's going to be buggy as hell for awhile? lol One thing you can bank on in the computer product line NEW does not always mean better. A new car yeah, new OS or new IE no no no nono no! lol Five years down the road yeah. :)

Remember this fine advice when it comes to computers:

1. If it ain't broke don't muck with it

2. Don't upgrade graphics cards until you can't stand the slide shows. ;)

3. Add more memory before adding a new graphics card

4. Tweak your memory settings to 2-1/2 times your physical memory but don't go over 4000, also set your min and max to the same settings IE: 3200 min/3200 max this is my setting for 1gig of ram. I find it optimum for what I play.

5. Don't update drivers until you've tried everything else, this is another one of those just because it is NEW doesn't mean it is best or better. It's always the first thing most troubleshooters tell you and most often is the last thing that is the problem.

6. Ask before you leap when buying, upgrading, building a new system. Sometimes you can save a lot of money just by listening to those with more experience.

7. Never buy anything Microsoft puts out when it's NEW! lol Nope not even games they will be buggy and flawed I betcha. ;)

8. When Ravinhood speaks....listen ;)~

9. Periodically backup your My Documents files about once every 6 months or at least once a year. If you ever have a failure or hard drive goes caput you'll be glad you did.

10. Buy more Matrixgames games so David/Erik will let Koios go back to making Ancients games. ;)

One of the big issues with Vista is it's micky mouse memory manager that does things that just eats ram no matter how much you have. It's not a good idea to mess with programs in memory when your trying to play a game or run some other non-MS software! Vista should have been a Mac killer now that Macs are nothing but PC's (intel machines), instead it increased Apple sells, the whole Vista develop team should have been canned!

My computer fried last december. Bought a new mobo etc and learned that my OEM copy of windows essentially followed my old, now fried motherboard. Got Vista home premium. Thoughts:

Slower.
Makes even less sense from an organzational point of view.
I'm tired of authenticating services etc. I've been a linux user for 10 years now and know authentication. MS' method is overkill.
Compatability has reared it's ugly head with some older apps.

On the flip side:
It's been very stable for me.
The revamped home folder is an improvement.
The Windows defender app successfully found a piece of malware that was trying to change my home page.
The overall security measures are an improvement.
I've grown to like the glass interface.

I'm much happier with my mac at work. I intend to get a 24" iMac for everyday computing at home, and leave the windows pc for work.

Peter i took your advice and bought a router (linksys) haven't set it up yet. Hope it gets rid of the slowness from the firewall.
I'm happy with XP for now.

I have IE7 and am doing quite nicely with it. I like the tabbing new sessions in particular, but I am always right-clicking to get that. I suppose there's a keyboard shortcut for that function, but I haven't looked very hard to find that yet.

Also get Adblock plus : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 and you don't have to worry about stupid ads ever again :)

I've still to encounter any Vista problem that's difficult to tweak.

BTW.. whomever said a service pack hasn't even been announced for it: It's due out this spring same as XP's.

I'm no huge Vista fan but It's worked just fine for me. I've got my system set up to dual boot but I've not even had to use XP on it yet.
