Status: offline 		no matter where you will land, I fear you will soon be stuck. All that a landing in Japan will do is to cause you real headache. Surely level 9 forts everywhere and thousands of assault points that can be moved around. Even if you take Nagasaki, I guess you won´t be able to break out. Though you would have a level 9 airfield on Japan then.

I agree. I did launch an operation Olympic vs Erstad and it is going to be tough. In few months I just managed to capture Kagoshima! PzB can bring in reinforcements quickly and one thing going againts you is the fact that he still has fighting airforce. (Erstad didn't)

If I would go on launching another Olympic than I would do 2 simultaneous huge landings somewhere at the Home Islands. That might be the only way and you do need a lot of combat troops to do so.

I think I had something like 15 Divisions, Artillery, Tanks and Supporting units with tons of supplies brought in day after day. Other thing I see going againts you is the fact that you have not secured your "flanks". Meaning that your supply TF are in constant danger from the LBA strikes.

It would be intresting to see whether you can pull off an operation Olympic though. Personally if that is the choice than I would to 2 massive simultaenous landings which are supporting each other.

Status: offline 		Thats the point as long as I can cut it off and stop reinforcements I get a major AF on the HI that will cause him nightmares....

Okinawa is Mountain but on the HI ONLY 3 Hexs are city ;)

Now if I can get one base maybe two that causes PZB huge problems.

So that means I will be facing say 2,000 AV x4 for forts x 2 for terrain ...max 16,000 per hex

If PZB is bringing forces in from Manchuria then I will bring in Russians I have the PP's to release 4 of their mechanised Corps to assist.....

If he has left his forces in Manchuria then I will leave the russians there but if he hasnt.....
So about 20,000 AV for the allies its doable....

Status: offline 		A few Carrier TF's are ordered to interdict off the south coast of Japan to interdict reinforcements comingt in from outer bases.

A heavy sub screen is being thrown out in the seas to the north of Japan.

I should have done this weeks ago but I was distracted.

I estimate 2 - 3 weeks before my Divs are rested enough for the final push I will have about 15,000 AV in the initial assault waves. I need to think through where I am going to hit in the next couple of days.

p.s. I will be invading the Indian mainland soon as well.

A single British Bde will be participating in the attack...

Status: offline 		OK been doing some planning..... (its more fun than struggling with the AI)

1st US Army has 3 Corps (11th 14th and 13th US Corps) and 2 Armoured Divsm 7 Inf Divs and and 8 Independent Ard Bns this is the mailed fist of the US Army.

6th US Army has 3 Corps (1st 9th and 10th US Corps) 9 Inf Divs and 5 Armoured Bns

8th US Army has 3 Corps (1st 3rd and 5th Amphib Corps) 4 USMC Divs, 5 Inf Divs and 4 Amphib Armoured Bns

10th US Army also has 3 Corps (3rd and 24th US and 1st Aus Corps) BUT 24th US Corps is on Iwo and will not be available. The remaining 2 Corps are very strong to offset this with 1 US, 6 Australian and 2 NZ Infantry Divs plus a reinforced Cavalry Division in support and 2 Ard Regts.

(FOr completeness 24th US Corps has 1 USMC DIv and 2 Inf Divs on Iwo)

Each of these forces is either resting or en route to the PI which is my springboard.

I think I am going with the HI route.

So a main invasion at Nagasaki (Objective Blue) and a blocking/exploiting invasion at the base next to it (Objective Red)

The plan would be that the primary assault forces would consist of

Objective Blue 6th and 8th US Army with all six Corps acting in the assault role supporeted by every heavy ship that can float.

At the same time 10th US Army will hit Objective Red.

This will leave 1st US Army with its mailed fist and ability to exploit as my ready reserve preferably unloaded after I secure a port to ensure maximum exploitation.

The alterantive is I swap around some of my Corps perhaps trading a 1st Army Infantry Corps to retain an Amphib Corps in my ready reserve.

I need to think a little more on this one

Status: offline 		Not a lot to say about today more of the same - apparently B29's have been performing naval search - oops not supposed to be all naval attack by 29's is banned - I have to many mixed AF's my mistake.

Major convoys are en route at present and preparations levels for the forces are rising I need to wait for the next tranche of major convoys to arrive as they have my floating reserve Corps on board so I estimate 3 - 4 weeks before I will be ready to attack again.

I was very very tempted by the southern cut off island as that is the definite weakspot but on balance I decided to throw the dice and try to land on the HI directly.

Status: offline 		More data on the plan I will of course be feinting against the obvious candidates Anamanai and the Island in the south.

As soon as my forces are ashore I will sent a fleet to pull 24th US Corps off of Iwo Jima and back to Army Reserve

My monthly supply consumption in the PI assuming no combat and no building and no air raids is just under 500,000 supply......

I have about 1.8m supply in the PI at present with about 400,000 due next month and 500,000 due the month after that assuming convoys get through.

I then have a 2 month gap as my AK's were held up (and I wasnt paying attention)

So although I have enough supplies it is not exactly flush.

Accordingly I am probably going to withdraw almost all B29's out to PI until I need them as they use to many supplies

I will recalculate my usage after they have been pulled out

Status: offline 		As a last hurrah before the 29's pull out I decide to hit all PZB's AF's in the area.

A new thought has occured to me I dont want to commit to many troops to an untakeable objective so a small variation to the plan is being considered.

What I land 1 Amphib Corps from each army in a line to include Kitkyushi

It extends my amphib operations by a further 60 miles but gives me another choice if PZB has large garrison forces it doubles my chances of going in against small forces.

So phase 1 is 1, 3 and 5 Amphib Corps landing over 180 miles of Japanese coastline after I see what awaits me in detail the remaining 8 Corps go in against the weakest of the three objectives to achieve best results....

Status: offline 		Supply usage in the PI went from 500k per month to 150k per month after I moved all the 29's out........

Pearl now needs 300k per month ;P I think the 29's are headed back stateside until I need em....

Apart from that the LR interdiction programmme is workign my TF's stay at long range and a lot of japanese raids come in piecemeal I may as well kill em now rather than wait for when I have assault Corps ashore !!!!

Anzio looks like she is in trouble.

Status: offline 		I have decided on the three landing attack accordingly I am going to switch forces around to give more weight to the initial landings

Each Amphib Corps will recieve an extra Inf Div to add to the spearhead and I will stagger it so that the day one landings are on Red and Green beaches hopefully PZB will pull reinforcements out of Blue to aid Red so the Blue landings will go in two days late.

10th Army will retain responsability for Red Beach, 6th Army will take Green Beach and 8th Army Blue Beach I will need to reorganise forces accordingly and will post my new force allocations after I work them out.

1st Army will remain as the OMG in reserve until I determine where the main blow will land

I have assault landing for about 18 Divs so isolating a single base is very important or else the losses I am about to take are going to be even more painfull.

In outline

D Day -
1 Reinforced Corps assault on Red
1 Reinforced Corps Assault on Green

D Day + 2
1 Corps of 8th Army Corps land on Blue

D Day + 4 Follow on forces exploit weakest target. (Corps will prep for a mix of objectives to allow some units to be prepped for each one.

The initial wave will consist of 12 Divs assault loaded so the immediate reserve will be 6 Divisions the remainign 15 Divisions will wait on the North coast of Luzon or be loaded on non assault AP's

This time its win or bust

Are you getting enough recce of your targets??

A couple of B-29 Sqns could provide some coverage or provide some false leads as to where you intend to land. (Maybe split 1 sqn into 3 flights)

Spend some of your time before your LCU's are ready in planting false leads for your opponent.

Status: offline 		I have pretty good intel of all the HI bases I have a lot of recon in the PI

In India I landed and took the base on the mainland south of Madras

This is a diversion op pure and simple I am never going to be able to take the allied entry points as PZB has to many forces behind lvl 9 forts impossible to take even if I wanted to.

Status: offline 		The problem I face in India is that I only have about 2,700 AV in total and even if I could get the whole force to either Bombay or Karachi undetected (a big ask) and unloaded intact (impossible) then all I can take is about 150 AV and PZB aint daft so Bombay and Karachi and actually any city hex is invulnerable to me.

Its crap but city hexes with lvl 9 forts are just to tough (or forts are to easy to build)

Status: offline 		What's the current VP count?  Do you think you could post a map of your lines in India -- likewise, what are the chances of being able to conduct a 4E bombing campaign against his lvl 9 forts in India?  They might be harder rto reinforce with aircraft, so at some point you'd have the ability to operate with fewer escorts.

Status: offline 		Andy - first time poster in your AAR.  It is one of about 3-4 that I have time to follow and have enjoyed seeing all the strategies, dilemnas, etc. so painfully learned.

I am curious though on the VP totals you posted - why do the aircraft air to air numbers go so far negative?  Can you tell, if, how, this effects the VP totals listed at the bottom left?
