I haven't noticed this broadly announced, yet.

For those who don't frequent the AAR forum, fabertong & Speedy just completed a PBEM! It was a May '42 start, ending in an allied auto-victory in March '45.

fabertong's AAR

Speedy's AAR

Congrats to them both!

There are many factors which led to the Allied victory, but IMHO, the key ones were:

1.  Speedy's excellent use of submarines which destroyed the Japanese tanker fleet.

2.  Speedy's bold thrust to Borneo and Hainan which ensured that Sumatra, Java and Malaya became a giant POW.

3.  Speedy's focus on capturing Iwo Jima to allow Mustang sweeps over the HI which (a) destroyed the enemy air force (gaining many VP) and (b) allowed B-29 from Saipan an easier run and the racking up of huge numbers of strategic VP.

I would agree, Alfred...........I'd also like to mention Speedy's 3 front strategy.......which kept me on the hop for the last year of the war.......
I'm sure we will spend some time unpicking the bones of the game in the AARs.......once time permits.......I'll also list some of the major mistakes I made.......if only to stop other players doing the same......

Thanks all

I think Alfred is spot on. My submarine offensive had (by my calculations) destroyed about 85-90% of available TK/AO by early March 1944. Now Japan receives about 30-40 later war AO/TK replacements but by mid-44 I had invaded Borneo which meant there was no way of getting to the oil even if they got through my submarines.

Faber is also correct in that I wanted to keep pressure as much as possible everywhere to stretch the Japanese forces. The Allies have more of everything and as such if the Japanese player is stretched there will simply be places they can't match the Allies. When that occurs it's important you capitalise and strike. Gain control of the area, house planes, scout out, plan. Repeat

Speedy,

Without making me go through the entire AAR (I slowly am but have a way to go), would you outline your basic tactics for you sucessful sub campaign? I am finding the my opponent is doing a good job smashing up my Allied subs and it is hard for me to duplicate the Allied sucesses. I am at 8/43 in my game and not doing too bad. Still there are too many tankers left.

Thanks.

How many months or years did it take you?   I finished twice against the ai but never finished one yet in pbem.  Good Job!

Congrats you 2!
Both of these folks should receive a free copy of the AE when it comes out......
OK, maybe that was a bad idea and there are several thousands of us out there who did finish a PBEM but never did an AAR for it.

I guess the AAR Hall of Fame should be updated with the results and maybe some comments from the two High Commands......

Hi,

I am happy to discuss this kind of stuff but best to go through via PM/E-mail. Let me know which is best for you.
