Status: offline 		2 small USN PGs which escaped from Manila are moving from Canton to Swatow. They will patrol there to disrupt mining and act as a tripwire if Martin starts sending major fleet units West.

Here is what Martin has deployed at Tientsin. The shock attack last turn appeared to be triggered by other units arriving from the North. Hopefully they will leave peacefully...

Status: offline 		Here is the latest Japanese Diplomatic move after British and French forces moved to secure the supply lines for Hong Kong after the Tientsin incident...

Japanese diplomats have deplored the latest aggressive colonial
aspirations of the British government. The farcial excuse of securing
the Indochina railway is but another attempt to extend the western
influence into the Asian continent.

British merchant vessels in the Hong Kong region are now liable to be
stopped by the Imperial Japanese Navy to be searched for war supplies
being directed to the Chinese.

Status: offline 		SS S-34 sailed from Mare Island for Kwajalein and a 25000 ton convoy started to load for Canton Island. 184th National Guard Regiment has arrived at Dutch Harbour along with around 40000 tons of supplies. Another Virginia Class Battleship will arrive shortly.

Here is Midway now that all units immediately assigned to it's defence are now present...

Status: offline 		Elements of 808th EAB, USAFFE HQ and PAF Aviation Regiment arrived at Canton aboard submarines and will disembark.
South of Hong Kong a Commonwealth Flagged Tanker was attacked by a Japanese submarine. A protest has been lodged and RN DDs are racing to the scene as tensions rise again. At Tientsin the Japanese Army is still present.

Apologies if the image is a little blurred. I had to try a few times to resize it properly with my new paint tool.

Status: offline 		The latest Diplomatic move from Dixie-San...

In response to the British announcement

THe British vessel was sailing well outside of the declared safe sea
lanes into and out of Hong Kong. The vessel was running with minimal
lighting and refused initial signals to stop and be searched. A warning
shot was fired across the vessel's bow. Once the IJN had ascertained
that the ship was not transporting war material to Chinese forces she
was allowed to proceed on her way unhindered. This incident is just
another fabricated excuse for the United Kingdom to justify their
increasing and unwarranted military presence in the Asiatic region.

This is bollocks of course. The torpedoes were fired without warning, but missed.

Status: offline 		2 British AKs were taken in hand to convert to ARs at Mare Island. As soon as they are ready they will be deployed somewhere in SEAC.

DD Hamakaze, damaged by a mine at Manila, sank off Laoag. DD Hinote suffered massive explosive damage when hit by a torpedo from S-4 in Manila Bay today, so she will hopefully soon follow Hamakaze.

Here is a list of Jap losses so far.

Status: offline 		I considered a sortie by CA Rochester and 2 Chinse CLs, but decided I will wait until my DDs return from Singapore. The British Government has softened it's stance towards the Chinese in light of recent Japanese actions and the Royal Dockyards at Hong Kong will now take on the repair of the 2 most heavily damaged Chinese CLs. S-4 loaded elements of 88th FA Rgt at Manila and will take them to Canton.

Here is the current state of repair of the US DDs at Singapore.

Status: offline 		Apologies for Post 220. I am very tired and quoted when I wanted to edit...

1st US Cav Div arrived at San Diego and is moving to Mare Island to load. It is prepping for Canton in China, where US/Chinese forces are pitifully weak. It will take months to make the move the long way round the South Pacific and around to the West of Borneo, so the strategic situation could have completely changed by the time they arrive in theatre.

Here is a screenie showing the current state of PH. As well as the 7 modern BBs in dockyard hands there are 2 patrolling offshore and 2 more on the way from CONUS.

Status: offline 		5 AKs are heading to Cebu by various routes to save the remaining elements of 120th USN Base Force (see screenie). S-9, with sys damage of 20, has arrived at Canton and has started to unload elements of 31st US Inf Rgt. A severely understrength 22nd Indian Brigade has arrived at Karachi and is loading on a convoy for Singapore. The patrolling RN DDs off HK have returned to port after not sighting Dixie's sub for a day after the first abortive attack.

Status: offline 		1st Cav Div is marching back to San Diego and a convoy of 6 15kt/6000capacity APs are heading from Mare Island to load it to save a few days. VP-2, equipped with Curtiss H-16 Patrol Planes, has arrived at San Diego and has moved to Mare Island to await shipment to a destination still to be decided. ZP-1 equipped with Type B Blimps arrived also. They are changing their aircraft to the Type C Blimp, which has a much greater range before they fly to Mare Island for shipment to Midway.

It does not give me great hope. They are essentially just a Coast Defence force. I am considering either sending a squadron of US Dreadnoughts to support them, or sending the SOPAC force. I would like to keep my battle fleet together and do not want to make the DEI a legitimate target for Martin if he has no plans in that direction. That's why the SOPAC option seems favourite for now. What do you think?

Status: offline 		The propaganda in a Japanese puppet newspaper...

Dateline: Peking, 15th July 1922

Japanese troops have moved to secure the Northern Chinese city of
Tientsin amidst mass rioting broke amongst the population. The
situation turned ugly after French soliders fired on a crowd gathering
outside the French Embassy in preperation for a march through the
streets. As a result individuals threw missiles at the French troops as
the situation rapidly spiralled out of control. The French Embassador,
Marcelle Du Porte and the Military attache (I don't know his name....
;-) ) placed the blame squarely on Japanese agents in the city and used
the opportunity to send patrols to harry the Japanese troops near the
city. As a result of this the Japanese Army has moved against the
French unit, an action which has inadvertantly drawn elements of the
British Middlesex Rgt into the struggle. Envoys from Japan and Britain
are frantically trying to stop the situation from spiralling out of
control, an event which could see the start of a second Great War.

Status: offline 		ZP-1 has moved to Mare Island and has loaded for Midway. VP-2 has loaded for Canton Island. The last 6 unmodified DDs arrived at Mare Island and will be upgraded. BB Georgia and 2 escorts arrived at Dutch Harbor to join North Force.

Status: offline 		The SOPAC force of odd Pre-Dreadnoughts and Cruisers is on the way to bombard Kwajalein before moving on to Rabaul. From Rabaul they will move to Soerabaya to assist the Dutch in securing their territory from aggression. If the political situation is too delicate they may move on to Canton to give the China Station a bit more muscle. S-4 is unloading a fragment of 88th FA Bn at Canton and the evacuation ship has loaded part of the remnant of 120th USN Base Force at Cebu and will proceed to Port Moresby.

Status: offline 		A Japanese submarine has been spotted off Cam Ranh Bay. 4 French Sub Chasers are proceeding to the area to search for it.

I imagine Martin will try another assault at Tientsin this turn. I do not know if Martin wants the Brits involved in the war or not. His forces in the hex cannot move out for some reason. He has a unit to the South now. It may have retreated from Tientsin after the deliberate atack failed and will hopefully allow the rest to bugger off.

I agree my friend. I have decided to send the smaller force for now. I will keep my Dreadnoughts concentrated for the moment in case my Kwajalein bombardment stirs up some trouble.

Well it depends on your strategy.

If you are going balls out for China you need that supply line between North and South opened so would need to go with a Jap hardball option and put political pressure on. This would lead to the forcing of a withdrawal to a guaranteed safe Shanghai in return for a free hand without non combatants in the firing line with the interests of British and French companies protected under your rule. With general war-weariness in France and the UK, together with being on the sidelines giving those countries a chance to profit from the situation and rebuild their post WW1 economies it is a believable solution.

Public opinion in Britain is another thing to be factored in. Pride has been bruised by two Japanese attacks and further provocation from your subs. The jingisotic Press would have a field day whipping the general populace up and they are very easy to manipulate. You only have to read about people booing damaged ships home after a misrepresented Jutland to imagine how it could be done. The victors in one conflict would still have the confidence from that victory and the US was more of an Ally than the Japanese in the last conflict. The Japanese were seen to have profited greatly from WW1 at little expense and this is sure to be resented.

If China is merely a secondary theatre to you, I will just move my units (if I can as you "own" all the routes to and from Tientsin) so you can move out. I would appreciate you leaving the hex Chinese if possible, so I can just walk back in.

As I said, your call, as only you know what your masterplan is. All of these "mistakes" could be deliberate bullying as far as I know...

Status: offline 		19th Pursuit Squadron was released to 9th Corps Hawaii command and moved to Mare Island from San Diego. They loaded onto a British AK and joined the ZP-1 convoy for Midway. At Mare Island 4 British AKs started conversion to AR and 1 began a conversion to Sub Tender.

Status: offline 		3 subs arrived off Manila. Due to the rich pickings just offshore they have been given orders to attack Japanese warships before they pick up troops.
