Since I would like to be more involved in this game and community, who do I talk to about getting a sig for posting? I am in the US Coast Guard in real life so I figure I will be a Coast Guard Cutter Taney Fanboy. The pic I would like to use is this one. The CGC Taney is the only surviving ship that was at Pearl Harbor that is still intact. Thanks.

*Note, I couldn't get the picture to load up so here is the link: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/gifs/Taney_Painting.jpg

Hi there.

To get a sig, go to photobucket.com (or any other image hosting site), upload your picture and copy the url into the SIG line of your profile page.

Others will certainly go deeper into this procedure in order to help you.

Gr.

William

Of course the USCG was very active prior to Pearl Harbor. My dad in law was a Coastie aboard the Wakefield when she was bombed by the Japanese at Singapore, soon after Dec 7th..
(They had just dropped off the last Commonwealth troops prior to the surrender of that city.)

Later, he served aboard the APA Calloway, and when my dad was carried to Omaha beach on LCI 91, that crew was Coast Guard as well.

Yeah, I know they are called "shallow water navy", but truthfully most of the crews of American landing craft were Coasties, so we grunts must be respectful.

BTW, that 2nd flag raised at Iwo Jima was from a Coast Guard ship:

rogueusmc's not been around much recently. You might beg Dixie for some assistance.

A buddy of mine's uncle joined the CG during WWII so as not to get shot at. He ended up driving landing craft, in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, South of France and Normandy. Had his boat shot out from under him at Normandy spent several weeks as and infantryman. Just goes to show you never can tell.

The Coast Guard is often absorbed into the Navy during wartime.  I had an Uncle who joined the Coast Guard in 1940 (to avoid the draft).  Oops.  He served the duration of the war on LST-66 touring the Solomons and Luzon as well as surviving a kamikaze hit on the boat.

Yeah, thats why I want to use the Taney.  All too often the Coast Guard is overlooked or completely forgotten as a branch of the US armed forces.  Many people don't know that the Coast Guard drove the landing craft that dropped off the invasion forces.  So I got to represent where I can.

But I also have no clue as to how to make a sig, is there anyone that is willing to make one or at least talk me through it?

Rubber boat rescue rangers is the term of endearmant I prefer for our Brown water Navy brethren.

Good luck with the sig.
