Those two(Norris and Segal) can't act if their life depended on it, thank god it doesn't and you can just turn the movie off, though Segal's films are fun to watch(and laugh at)

Indeed. Folks like Van Damme are much more fun to watch, but there seems to be a very thin slice of society that actually understands something about martial arts that demands authenticity, not gymnastics, as Van Damme was so eloquently described to me.

So, what are my American brethren up to for the forthcoming holiday weekend?

Well, mine started today.

My brother is coming down to visit for the long weekend. My wife is off work after tonight, and the weather forcast looks good. I anticipate drinking, pool time, drinking, grilling some meat, drinking, watching some fireworks, and maybe a little drinking.

Lots of side splitting laughter is the one guaranteed ingredient. My brother and I couldn't stand each other for the most part when we were growing up, and now we are the best of friends.

That's how it was with my brother-in-law and I. He was all of 7 years old when my wife and I got married and he hated me for taking his favorite sister away. When we visited, he would beg her to not go back with me. Now we're the best of friends. He's usually out here for the 4th. We always go to Origins together. Unfortunately, he's mobed and training for Iraq, where he'll go in a month or so. Wish I was going with him.

Its cause you dont sleep in the same room anymore. I also began developing a friendship with my brother after he moved out.

Mother's mother. All four came during/ shortly after WWI. Mother's father fought in the Italian Army. Got a head wound and a metal plate in the head for his efforts, but survived. He lived with us in my childhood.

Anyway, about Firefox....

great movie...

Had to IMDB that. Not sure that I've ever seen it. The thought of Clint as a fighter pilot is a bit of a reach, though.

Silly movie. The trip through Moscow and the NKVD toadies was ridiculous, almost as much so as the underground people.

This always seems to happen when some Western moron director (I mean Western Hemisphere, not Clint personally) tries to depict some big, hairy deal in a country he just doesn't understand. Look at how long it took before Hollyweird shed the white neo-Nazi terrorists and started showing "real" nasties from the Arab world (who all look like Jews fresh off the kibbutz or out of the junkyard). They still don't understand it, though.

I would like to see some reality in the depiction of terrorists. Like, for example:

Not sure, but I think they moved to Cleveland pretty quickly. Both sets were already married with some kids born on each side of the pond.

Some are good that way, like Braveheart....even with all the historical absurdity. But I think that faithful history makes a great movie truly great.

Nope. I also vowed never to marry an Italian or someone from Cleveland. My wife is from NJ and has no Italian in her whatsoever. I tell her she's Italian by injection. (She'd kill me if she knew I just said that.)

Except in Ft. Lee....which is distinctly Russian. I think NY should just annex it and get it over with.

Where did you retire to?

Well, I don't like to talk about it in places like this, just in case the authorities are working on interdicting my smuggling operations.

Let's just say that I am cozily ensconced in a place where there's peace, lots of sunshine and water, English is not the primary language, and there are no Americans (except for the occasional tourist).

I had a couple of American travelers stop by the other day to ask some questions about the history of my place (it's quite old and picturesque). They were relieved that I could speak English and thought of me as one of the locals (a notion of which I did not disabuse them). I invited them in, extended some of the hospitality for which this area is famous, and fed them a line of tihsllub about the history of the house a mile long. They ate it up, and the more outrageous it became, the more they liked it.

Ah, you Americans. You are so easy. At least your leadership is brilliant...
