Well, it's now been two months since I decided that enough was enough, and I'm now nearly 20 pounds lighter and continuing to shrink in size. Nice to be in charge of my body again, instead of my stomach being in charge of me.

A very large reservoir of bad eating habits to give up... Years and years of sitting on my ass shoveling food and candy in my mouth, getting bigger and bigger. One day, I looked in the mirror and thought, "This is where it stops".

Since then, I've been gradually weaning my body of all the bad stuff, and stopping thinking that I have to have food all the time. As a result, my stomach capacity is shrinking, which means that I feel full faster and thus need less.

I peaked at about 260 pounds, and am now down to about 240. I'm taking my goals in 10-pound increments, so it doesn't overwhelm me. I need to lose about 40-45 pounds more, but I'm taking it nice and slow. Eventually, I'll get to the point where I'll have to start exercising to get rid of more, but for now I'm happy to score all the free points I can get...

Good job, T. I'm one of those guys who got big early in life due to playing football, and staying in shape has always been a big problem for me. Then, I developed a disgustingly large appetite for beer.

As I approached middle age, one day I discovered I had hit 290. Ugh. My doctor was about to pull out a knife and shoot me. Diabetes - and worse - were on the horizon.

So, no more sauce. I decided that the best thing to do was to give it up altogether, because I've never been the kind of guy who can do things in moderation. A year later, I weighed 185. I run three times a week and swim the other four days. Man, I feel so much better. It was like carrying around a couple of fully-packed suitcases and three or four concrete blocks all the time. Unloading that mess is one of the few smart things I've done with my life.

Good luck. I really mean it.

Thanks, Pas. I was also looking diabetes and heart disease in their unattractive faces; just one more reason to drop the sack I was carrying around.
