What about World in Flames! I will definitely be buying this one, I played the original HOI and found it a click fest and have not even considered getting HOI2.

HoI2 was unmatched in terms of WW2 grand strategy and I'm eager for the successor.

HOI 3 was already on my "buy list". It looks like they have reduced some required management in comparison to HoI 2. This looks like it will be a great game, but we have to be realistic here; it's P.I. and it is a huge game-there will be bugs so big that "Men in Black" will tremble with fear at the very sight of them.
I will be buying anyway.

No thanks. The HOI series is in my rearview mirror. I'm looking forward to MWiF.

Bah! That video looked great! Besides, I think HoI3 is closer on the horizon that MWiF...  I'm pretty excited about HoI3. Looks like they are taking some of the more irritating elements and making them easier to control and better to get into. That new diplomacy and spy system looks nice. And it fulfills my dream of being able to slowly influence my neighbors to my political ideology. I always wanted to convert other nations to Facism or Communism (what can I say, I like the bad guys) and I always loved to set up Puppet states as a part of a treaty! This was one of the best aspects of Making History that I felt HoI2 needed - now they do!

Also, I had no idea what Johan Andersson looked like. Very surprising! I hope he lives in a nice house, lord knows I have given him plenty of money.

There is a new beta patch for Arma (1.3). It has eliminated the constant need of buying spy's and other time drags.

I was surprised myself. He looks like a laid back IT geek-nothing wrong with that. The P.I forums give me the impression of a much more, shall I say, formal head homer.

I own all of the previous versions of Hearts of Iron. I would be very surprised if I didn't purchase Hearts of Iron 3 as well.

"More, more, more" - Johan Andersson

Well it sure makes a change from EU:R which was less, less, less, to the point of bowdlerisation.

This is the most encouraging news in computer wargaming I have seen in ages.

I still won't buy it on day one however. I still do not trust Paradox after the EU:R debacle.

I wouldn't put any faith in WiF either. We will see what it is worth: buying, or a bucket of warm spit

Looks very impressive, but then so did the first two in their time and I never really got on with them. Bit odd really, as I enjoy EU3 and Crusader Kings a lot, but I found HoI2 woefully 'unrealistic' as a wargame, and much too complicated for it's own good as an enjoyable strategy game - complexity does not necessarily equate with 'depth'. The other thing I don't like about them, and this is just as true of CK and EU3 is the continuous time engine. To me these are turn-based games with a 'real-time' engine bolted on to attract the casual gamer for whom 'RTS' is synonymous with 'strategy'. I think they would all have been far more elegant and enjoyable with a TBS engine (a turn based Crusader Kings would have been one of the best games ever, IMHO); the RT one is just clunky and irritating. That said, I'm not sufficiently naive to believe TBS versions would have sold anywhere near as well!

But one thing interests me.
As we all known Paradox games loads pretty long, and on this video, we have seen it takes no time to jump from main menu to the game

HoI3 probably will be a good game and I'll buy it. But don't ask Johan why there will be Luxembourg in the game and no Free City of Danzig.

It looks very impressive. They seem to have improved the supply system, making it more important which is good. I am also very happy to see the implementation of an OOB-system. It seems to be similar (in idea at least) to the Airborne Assault AI. I love that (less of a click-fest, more realistic)! Designing your own troops is a nice addition. HoI series is really is without any competition. If not the Airborn Assault franchise expand to strategic levels... That too would be very cool.

I have some doubts, but for sure I`ll buy it. My dobts are connected with lack of...real WW2 in the HoIs ;)

Agreed-if Panther Games could use the existing engine for strategic (or even large operational) level games, I would only need to buy from one company. Its hard to do it all.

Wasn't there a new indie wargame that used a Panther style system to simulate a large operation? Created by a guy in Spain, if I recall, Jim Cobb did a review at Armchair General... can't remember the name.

On topic, I'm pretty excited about that new AI OOB system, if it works. I was never good at controlling large numbers of forces, which got a bit hectic for me. I also like the ability to set up divisions to built with exactly what I want. Streamlining was what HoI needed.

That new beta patch looks cool! I installed it, but haven't gotten deep into it.

As others have said, this one looks like it has the needless micromanagement of every tiny little thing (that drove me insane in existing HoI titles) dialed down. It would be nice to leave some of the extraneous stuff to others so that I can focus on the big picture and key battlegrounds.
