I think people would be keen thta UV 2 be set in the Med.

But for UV 3 it seems to me that the Baltic would be a good location.

In the early war there were a lot of ship movements in the North sea and a major naval action off Norway.

Then, with Barbarossa, there were many sea missions through the Baltic throughout the war.

Could be a good setting.

Hi!

Please dont take this the wrong way but I really dont like your idea. Ok, so there were some naval actions during the Norway campaign but it was a VERY SHORT campaign without the size of the Jap or US fleet in the Pacific.
Living so very close to the baltic as I do I know about some of the naval activities that tool place here before and after Barbarossa but they are not big enough. Trust me.
For sure UV 2 will be the MED which I think is great. Before that it will be the War in the Pacific. After that there will be a HUGE russian campaign game which will be air/land based so I guess the UV engine will not do much good there.

A Med version of UV could be awesome. Battleship actions, cruiser actions, destroyer actions, urgent convoys, carrier attacks, Malta, Gibraltar, evacuations, Torch...man, what a game it could be! It would be able to keep you up all night biting your nails!

Almost would qualify as a scenario or two that could be added to the Med version.

The Baltic was nothing. I have zero interest in it, and have yet to encounter outside of this thread who has any more than that.

maybe UV 3 could be a battle of the Atlantic. you would have to plan convoys. send out hunter killer groups etc. escots to russia would need battle ship protection. plan ambushes for german surface raiders.

Obviously, UV is the forerunner of WITP. It might work with a Med backdrop, but that would be stretching the land combat as described in the aars I think. Anything else is in need of a more in depth approach, at least for land warfare. All of these projects should be able to utilize the same basic engine, with gradual improvements, so that the companies involved can make a few bucks on all their work thus far.

While these offspring of the UV/WITP are satisfying their gaming legions and generating revenue, my belief is that perhaps a gaming company on this scale could devote a fair amount of its creative energy on an improved AI engine, which could be used under license by other developers for their products as well, somewhat like those companies which have developed multiplayer engines and have made some decent profit leasing them out.

Perhaps then, the next step might be global in scale. Perhaps a global scale game like Europa Universalis, but on a much more detailed level, with a WITP style combat interface and the historical timeline centred around the 1850's to 1946 (the global arena was fairly well defined by this point). Basically, use the political and economic aspects of the game (many forum scribes reatedly express a desire for an ability to control production...why not go the whole way) as one big mother of a battle generator for a more detailed warfare engine.

I'm rambling here as I can't sleep again, but any thoughts?

:)
