My experience with BTR is based on playing a campaign as the axis against the computer in about 2000. and a scatter order would have been realistic

If as follows
1 aircraft are cought on the ground the pilots should be able to abandon their aircraft, and not just sit in their aircraft and be killed.
2 returning aircraft are crossing the line of an incoming strike, they should be able to be ordered to seek refuge at the closest available airfield
3 the same applies for Night fighters that have Intruders above their airfield, and not be lined up to get shot down. Intruders where not that effective that they could shot down many aircraft landing at the same airfield.

what do people think or has this situation been considered in the latter upgrades to the old game and also in the re-release?

losses are much better for planes on the ground, units about to take off, still have pilots in them, but, those not flying, or getting ready to, do not, but pilots can still be killed during a AF attack, but mostly, it has been toned down

2 returning aircraft are crossing the line of an incoming strike, they should be able to be ordered to seek refuge at the closest available airfield

trouble is the game engine, it is pretty much, you take off from A, you land at A, one of the things Harley has wanted to do, when he gets a chance is to try and rework how this is modeled, but that is backseat right now

got to disagree, the LW just went ahead and landed, they had systems in place, to try and let the pilots know if Intruders were in the area, and they had there own way of coming in to land when known, and lots of LW planes were lost to the Intruders, they even worked out plans to take off when Intruders were over the field

what do people think or has this situation been considered in the latter upgrades to the old game and also in the re-release?

HS;

This is along a similiar line as Wayn's comments.

Exactly what does happen to an Allied plane/pilot that crashes in England?

Assume, no message about being killed.

if I remember it all correctly, there are 6 states a pilot can be in (most of them are the same but different names)

but in your case, it would either WIA, KIA, or no Harm

so a plane that crashes on the runway, is either damaged or Destroyed, which you get a message

pilot is either Killed, Wounded (you get message) or no Harm, no message

if I remember correctly, a plane that crashes not on a AF, is destroyed, but Pilot still has the same chances

HS;

What my "original" thinking was...

An Allied plane "lands" in England -- Allied territory -- not at its home base, it is given some random number of transfer days. After that number of days, the plane is returned to the unit for maintenance and operations. This is simulating a repair crew taking a trip to the field, fixin' 'er up, and/or removing the wings and bringing it back to the airbase.

The same thing would hold for Axis aircraft in Axis territory.

T=1 The plane landed OK and the pilot "refuelled at the club" before going home...
...
T=9 Write the plane off and get another from the pool.

The real question is ... would this be worth the code?
