Why did you have to go back to an earlier version of AE? Inquiring minds want to know...

A save game glitch with the new .exe. It was sorted out in a couple of hours; no biggie.

I assume Mike is speaking only of the Pearl Harbor attack here. Is this true? Japanese losses on PH day are never more than 25% of historical?

YH...

Other than the "no restricted units can can cross national boundaries" house rule do you see the need for any other house rules or has AE cleaned up most of the problems from WitP? For example, do you still need a "no paradrops or invasions on non dot/base hexes" rule or has the hexside control rules cleaned this up?

Because there was a problem with the last version. Dont really know the details, something to do with the save getting the wrong scenario.

Well common sense ones. like no submarines in river hexes, no bombardment/invasions of river ports. As for paradrops in non-base hexes, you NEVER could do it except in enemy occupied hexes, so that rule isnt one that needs to be a rule. As for invasions of non-port hexes, again a rule that need not be a rule since there is no advantage in WitP to landing at a non-base hex but in AE, since there is no hex control, landing at a non-base hex would be like unloading at any other size 0 port. In other words, it will take you WEEKS to unload there. You dont need a rule for it because frankly no one will try it more than once in their life.

Dec 9th finds me shooting up some more AKs in the South China Sea. Paras took Jolo (despite allied CAP over the hex). Invasions began at 2 places in northern Luzon. He has several TFs in the Sulu Sea and just north of it fleeing Luzon and I have the new level 3 airbase at Jolo and 4 surface groups closing on the area:
1) Choakai
2) Mikuma
3) Kongo and company (which sank several AKs in its current hex)
4) Haruna and company.

(and the Ryujo off the eastern side of Legaspi also)

Kota Bharu fell with the Indian base force being destroyed outright and the 2 bdes retreating. Several air battles over Luzon and a couple over Malaya. The AVG appeared over Changsha today. Jap ground troops moved into the Hong Kong hex also.

For those of you worried about such things, the 21st div loaded in a day in Shanghai (level 7 port).

Very much tongue-in-cheek (but based on vast amounts of anecdotal information from AE team members), I can forsee the day when the unofficial title of this expansion is "AE - Loading and Unloading in the Pacific"

Glad you were able to find and show this example..Just about 2 weeks ago I posted some data that entire divisions could load onto civilian passenger liners in a day.
With AE improving the realism of loading/unloading dependent on port size, I was afraid someone might have gone overboard with those numbers.
So long as folks are reading all these AAR's and other AE info, the learning curve will be easier. Inversely, those not reading them will be the ones finding everything "broken, or bugged"....
Just my opinion, but based on past observations.

Tree has the turn. He is a soccer mom I guess, he has 1 maybe 2 games today and then queuing up a barb later tonight. Might get 1 turn back from him today, not a prayer tomorrow and depending on the sacrifice to the God of War (ie "the wife" or "boss" as he called her) he might be able to come out and play monday

Yank I think your right, my cat knows the WitP music. When it plays he runs into the room, jumps into my lap and goes to sleep. He seems to know I'll not move other than to twitch the mouse and will be nearly catatonic. (that may have been a bad put)

Got a turn in from Tree. The Lex showed up at Tarawa and sank a support CL and one of the AKs that was still 40 miles out. The TF will scatter and drop its charges on nearby islands. Ocean island and Naruru fell. Landings on Guam by the 5th base force.

An Ozzie CL sank the 2 ships of the Kavieng invasion group. The other force that was headed to the other end of New Ireland will be diverted to Shortlands and Tulagi.

A pair of Brit CLs and DDs were at Singkawang (near Kuching) as expected. I sent in a single PB (whish was sunk) but the TF was spotted for Saigon based Bettys (which put a torp into one of the CLs). Sambas (the hex between Singkawang and Kuching) was taken by para assault. Fighter sweep of Singapore damaged 25 allied fighters.

More enemy AKs were shot up by TBs in the South China Sea. Artillery began shooting at Hong Kong. San Fernando and Aparri fell to Imperial forces after the enemy abandoned the positions. A squadron of Sallys, Lilys, and Nates have moved in to San Fernando as close support. The main invasion force closes on Iba. The Choaki was transporting an airfield company and it discharged that unit on Jolo and is now in hunt mode. The Jolo based Bettys made several attacks but no major damage. Supplies and an air HQ are enroute to Jolo. Mogami engages 4 MTBs and no damage to either side reported. Shooting at MTBs at 29,000 yards doesnt seem to be effective Kimura detachment of the 33rd reg lands at Legaspi. The Mura detachment is closing on Naga.

Landings at 4 points east and north of Ambon with 3 airfield companies and an opposed landing at Sorong. Minor skirmishes in China.

Some of the R&D fatroies are very small, so when you convert them to other types in some cases the numbers of factories drops to zero. What I do with these is convert them to a plane type that is in production fast (4/42 is the earliest my R&Ds come on line) so I can use this factory slot for existing plane production.

Lex shot up the 2 remaining CMs from the Tarawa force, but not before they got their loads off. She also caught the force that unloaded the troops on Ocean Is (which was to have been miles away before light, but for some reason wasnt). And a Jap sub put 2 torps into that CL that was hit yesterday by Bettys off NW Borneo.

Other than that, a completely boring turn. Some ships in the southern PI sank by Jap CVL aircraft, planes from Jolo, and the Kongo sank 2 AKs at Cayagan (prep work for the 65th bde landings which should start tomorrow, the day after by the latest), and a couple of cans sank 1 of 4 MTBs off Tawi Tawi. A sub put a hole in a Fubuki-1 DD at Jolo (one of the ones without d/c racks). Shes disbanded at Jolo with 87 float damage. Doubt she will survive, but not going out of my way to try to save her either.

This TF commander brings great dishonour upon the Imperial Navy. Someone should hand him a paper-wrapped tanto so he may atone.

Looks like the SBDs were diving from a low altitude "2,000 feet" Perhaps that is a cause for the poor results. I would have expected more bomb hits from that attack

All dive bombers release weapons at 2k'. That isn't necessarily the altitude from which they began their dives.
