I'd have to say that I see this a lot. The reason I mentioned the CV's is because those two incidents had me yelling at my monitor. :D I've only played as the US so far, so it's pretty much guaranteed that my ships will take damage, and that it will be flotation the majority of the time. Here's how damage seems to work: If you have a ship with fire damage, that will be reduced or removed first. While that's happening, the flotation damage will be checked or slowed, depending on the fire damage. The more fire and system damage, the less likely it is that flotation damage will be checked, and the more likely it will be for it to rise. If you can put out the fire before the flotation get above 65, you've a very good chance to save the ship. 65 to 75, and it's much more likely to sink the ship. In my experience, once you go over 75, the ship is as good as gone if you can't get it to port in less than 3 turns. Here's a little formula that seems to work pretty well for me: 100 - (Flotation damage + (System damage/10)) + 1 for each hex to the nearest port = Chance for survival. So a ship with 40 sys damage and 65 flot damage that's 10 hexes from the nearest port has a 21% chance to make it. 100 - (65 + (40/10)) + 10 = 21 Can you tell my ships get hammered every now and then? :D
