Unfortunately, thanks to the 24-hour news cycle and the Internet, it IS a global event. The event is a mass psychosis, but nevertheless...

I can understand why the media should morn Jacksons passing. He filled up sooooo many pages of tabloids and sooooooo many minutes of air time with the stupid and titilating activities that he practiced, the media feels that they have lost a major "meal ticket". They would feel the same way about Brittany or Paris. If they weren't doing something stupid, vulgar or crass would the media really care about any of them?

As an experiment, I went and made the following comment on the CNN.com thread. We shall see if it's even allowed on:

This is a really interesting experience. Seeing how the Internet carries all these sentiments forward so quickly, seeing how it becomes self-perpetuating and leads to some people (who might otherwise be "normal", whatever that means) publicly calling yesterday "The Worst Day in World History".

It's difficult to respond to such a statement, except by saying that by making it, the commenter reveals more about themselves than about the rest of the world. Friday the 26th of June, 2009 was in no way, shape or form the worst day in world history.

Once this communal reaction dies down, it is to be hoped that some people honestly question why they would make such statements, commenting on the passing of an individual personally unknown to them.

As my Hungarian refuge philsophy professor used to say "Don't confuse me with facts". I agree Kristian, it's interesting , but I'm pretty sure that it's a result of empty lived people "wanting to belong". If you hear 99 people speaking well of someone, group think mentalities push you to not only want to join in , but indeed "go one better". Soon people run out of supurlatives and crap like "the worst day in history" creeps in. Any rational person will look at such inane dribblings as just that. But a person in the "group think thrall", will say "how true" and try to contribute even greater tripe. I've never had any desire to be a psychogist (suffering through two semmesters of it in college) , but having spent a great deal of my life (mostly time not in uniform or working in museums) trying to sell stuff to people who really don't need it. (From goldfish to houses) I see it in action every day. While we may shake our head at such insanity , we do have to recall that it's the stuff that keeps capitalist society going ("mom, I REALLY NEED that ....whatever...EVERYONE else already has one!".

Why not? Maybe a recruiting tool? Or a place to have or continue discussions that "we need to take somewhere else"? Or a place to contact people after bannishment (ask Dixie about this).

That's Amazon for you but don't let that cloud your judgement of the book. It's written by an Englishman,

So what you are saying is that you'll find "the English", but not "British".....implying that the Scots,Whelsh and Northern Irish were slackers! (The English are kind, the English are good"......).

You should know better than to mock the masses old boy Why should I care that he's dead? I never met him (and never will now), some of his music was OK. At least the local children will sleep happier now I recall similar, or eventually worse, public despair at the death of "The People's Princess"

Reports have been coming in that MJ will not be buried.  His family want him cremated, but due to the amount of plastic surgery he had undergone he will instead be melted down.  After this he will be turned into Lego blocks, so that the youngsters can play with him for a change...

And for those who understand proper football:

What's the difference between Sir Alex Ferguson and Michael Jackson?

Fergie will still be playing Giggs in August

OH THE HUMMANITY! Actually my friend, I didn't mean you. (But would greatly appreciate such kindness) I was trying to tease Bobo , who has been down most of the week with internet problems.

I just saw a comment on CNN.com to the effect that yesterday was "The Worst Day In World History"... It's scary to think that there are people out there who actually believe that sort of garbage...

You have to be joking. Someone really made that comment ? Supposedly related to the deaths of 2 entertainers ? Did I miss Nuclear Exchange where hundred's of millionsdied ?
Good grief.

Unfortunately, I'm not joking...

Perhaps we could mount him like Lenin, I know a couple good taxidermists.

Indeed a black day for much of the world; or maybe a white day; more likely a gray day with 2 coats of white latex; or perhaps just an androgynous day.

But thank you CNN for verifying, once again, the concept that most humans should indeed eat their young.
