Status: offline 		I've seen just about every war movie made. Wouldn't mind seeing a remake of Tora,Tora,Tora and Midway if it was done right, but I'm not holding my breath. Hollywood isn't into making historically accurate movies these days. In order to attract as many viewers they have to cater to the ladies and that means "chick flicks" elements slip into the mix.

Pearl Harbor with Ben Afleck, was laughable. No amount of special effects can make up for a warped storyline and innaccuracies.

These days if I want to see/learn about the Pacific Theater I just stay at home and fire up:

World at War
Battle 360
Victory at Sea
Crusade in the Pacific
WW2 in Color

And other fine DVD's that can be bought online or rented.

One book I'd like to mention is "The Campaign for Guadacanal" by Jack Coggins. He has other fine books I also have. Its out of print and not easily available, but if you do some searching online you should be able to get it.

Status: offline 		Think that was my first hardback book in my collection about the war in the pacific. First edition 1972, during my 2nd year of High School. Remember it fondly.

Status: offline 		I agree with sfbaytf. Those are some great DVD's. Plus World at War can be purchased on the History Channel website site for a little over $50.00. Where as twenty years ago I bought the TV offer, 26 VHS tapes, six to eight weeks delivery, for 2 1/2 years, at just under $1.000.00. How times have changed. Life is good.

If I could make a movie, any movie, it would be a remake of Star Wars (the new hope)... from the other side.

I would make it about the "dude that pulled the trigger that blew Alderran apart", coupled with a story about Darth Vader's wingman in their Tie fighters, make it about "the stormtrooper that bonked his head on the ceiling when chasing Ham Salad", add the story about the "look sir, droids" stormtrooper, have Admiral Thrawn be one of the main characters... etc. etc. etc.

But BEST war movie?

Saving Private Ryan, Stalingrad, The Winter War, Das Boot, Tora Tora Tora

Now your talking. Pacific War. One I just Remembered. King Rat (1965). Again, also a great book.

And books mentioned earlier by sfbaytf. Like Jack Coggins `Guadalcanal' is great easy read. My bible for Guadalcanal is Richard B. Frank's `Gaudalcanal. Can't for get `Rising Sun' by John Toland.
