To receive the HQ benefits during an Amphibious assault, does the HQ have to be part of the amphibious assault or can they stay on board the amphibious TF?

If it's anything like WITP the Amphib HQs have a zone of control so as long as the target is within their zone of control ...

I understand the ZOC rules but what my question is, does the HQ have to be part of the amphibious assault or can it remain on board a TF within the target ZOC? I assume then that as long as an HQ's ZOC is within range of the target hex then the HQ can stay onboard ship and still give the HQ benefits to the amphibious assaulting LCU's. If this is true then there is no reason to expose the HQ's to combat.

Not starting a game yet I'm not 100% sure but with the original WITP they could stay on the ship.

Remember, though...there are different types of HQ's. If you're talking about the Amphibious HQ's that the Allies get later in the war, they can...and actually should...remain on the ship.

But if you're using a normal invasion HQ (such as an Army HQ or the I Amphibious Corps, which is NOT an amphibious HQ, btw), I'm pretty sure you need to unload them on-shore to receive any combat benefit from them. Only thing I can base this on is my combat results...when I've offloaded an HQ with the invasion force, combat results are far more favorable than when I don't have one or keep it on the ship.

The good news here is that, if your HQ has enough planning points...75-100, it should suffer few casualties during the "wade ashore" phase (unlike in stock WiTP, where it would have been decimated).
