My interest in this period of history has been rekindled, as I've found several online texts about the events (see the "history links" sticky).

I also found a nice contemporary version of "Nemzeti dal" on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsS9k5vEZGg

It is amazing to me that the "Independence War", 161 years later, still engenders much interest in Hungary.

Also interesting is the fact that the Hungarian Army is still referred to as the "Honvedseg", a term that originated in 1848. The term, literally translated, is "Home Defense Corps".

If memory serves, this plays a lot like Napoleon in Italy, but without the tactical combat. And I thought the company that made this thing used to have to give it away for free (because of some public service agreement with their source of funding). But it's been a few years and I'm getting long in the tooth, and my memory may be playing tricks on me.

There's a Strategic Command WW I user-made scenario about the revolt of Baden from the same time period. I wonder how this subject would fare with the same treatment.

I would still be playing it if the dang thing worked on any of my computers. But alas it doesn't, and neither does Napoleon in Italy.

Which is a damn shame. It's still free because it was financed by the Hungarian Ministry of Education, and it is hard to beat what it offers for that value.

But alas, none of the workarounds have succeeded for me, and we ALL KNOW how Matrix is like when it comes to supporting their product....

(Also, as a Beta Tester for Napoleon in Italy, it's more accurate to say that it plays like 1848 with Tactical Combat; the game is an offshoot of 1848 and an upgrade, not the other way around).
